  1. The only ferret flea products I've seen and used is advocate (only from vets) and beapher spot on for small animals. Not always easy to get hold of. If there are any others available then would be great to know.
  2. Original point was that cat flea products are safe to use on ferrets
  3. ...which makes Frontline and any other spot on cat flea treatment more than suitable for use on ferrets I should know because it worked for me multiple times
  4. Yes, ferrets share a common ancestor with cats and dogs but they are no more similar to dogs than they are to cats.
  5. Only in physical traits, not in genes i.e. both cats and ferrets are obligate carnivores but dogs are not-same goes for all canidae.
  6. Don't know where you got your info from mate..Its actually the other way round
  7. As above, spot on for small animals works fantastically with mine. Alternatively a spot on for cats such as advocate or frontline from the vets works too
  8. Fresh shavings will unlikely have ticks so your hob would have picked it up outside. unless of course he has fleas, which can carry ticks would de-flea my ferrets regularly as a matter of course.
  9. Plenty of idiocy out there amongst ferret keepers feeding cat food is common still. probs pure laziness if you ask me, if no meat is available theres no excuse not to be stocked up on dry ferret complete.
  10. Depends on the kind of bites they're giving. if some kits are latching on, then they need to have a bit more exposure/be handled more regularly then other kits. I had a kit who was 8 weeks old and he drew blood and gave me holes in my hand bit like a right b*****d!!! but all this stopped around 3 months old and I used gloves in his case too.
  11. Ive used frontline and advocate from the vets before and neither worked as well as beapher spot-on for small animals never used fronline spray though
  12. I agree that there is a dark ferret but it may have a small percentage of eu. I was told that you can tell an eu if the dark fur extends down to the nose and the ears are more rounded, is this true? How can you tell apart and eu or eu x from a normal ferret??? anyone know? Cheers Who cares? Curious and interested. Why? just want to know. lol

  15. What your describing is real time GPS tracking and it exists but used mainly for children and valuables. not made for animals though and cost £££££££££
  16. I have my ferrets chipped but as said they only serve as a mark of ownership. I lost my ferret last year and it was completely heart-breaking, he was chipped but fat lot of good it did to get him back as when ferrets go wondering/get lost, they almost never come back due to lack of homing instinct and the many hazards especially for those who live in an urban environment. Can't count on folk to check if a found ferret is chipped as most ferret owners do not chip that said, my ferret never returned but he was probably killed before he had a chance to be found Maybe tattooing is a more reliabl
  17. My kit was 6 weeks when I got him, guess some breeders prefer selling them earlier.
  18. In my experience, dry food doesn't need to be soaked at 7 weeks as they have sharp bumps as teeth and able to crunch dry food.
  19. Kits will bite a lot mate, its normal but the biting ceases around 4 months or less with everyday handling. I suggest personally that you handle them for a couple of hours everyday playing with them and holding them is very important so they get used to human hands. when they want to bite your hands, let them bite!! I give my kits my fingers deliberately and I agree with the above of putting your fingers down their throats-they hate it and will learn that painful play bites are wrong If the bites are particularly hard, then I suggest you use a pair of gloves cos sometimes they will draw blo
  20. Old pair of jeans??!! what can they do with them...? lol I agree regarding the wood Funny you should say that... Ive got a shed load of that perforated, corrugated drainage pipe that goes all round my court, up the walls, along the underside of the roof and in two places, Ive cut the pipe and jubilee clipped a leg of jeans into it, making little hammocks, they love them, they are their preferred sleeping places. Seems their warm enough, but like a bit of air. Where can I get these drainage pipes? want some. cannot find any lying about anywhere

  22. The only part of the tennis balls that seem to get torn is the coating, so far my kit hasn't managed to bite straight through it! Interactive cat toys like feather teasers are great because they prefer to attack things that are moving obviously they work best when you are around to play with them.
  23. Yeah my 13 week old kit loves tennis balls and chiefly anything made of rubber!! very entertaining but he also has a pet shop full of different cat toys too including tubes and pipes in his hutch. be careful with material cat toys though because they were swallowed and caused a bit of rectal bleeding in my kit so don't leave them kind of toys unsupervised
  24. In my experience, hobs will only live together peacefully when out of season or if both parties are neutered.
