How Do You Know When Your Feedings Ferrets To Much?
onthehunt replied to tiger82's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Yeah definitely cut out dog food it really isn't needed from the sound of it your lot already get enough decent grub also wet food contains crap like sugars and cereals which makes them poop more Fresh meat and good quality dry ferret/kitten food is their main diet. id rather my stinkers were healthy though so when I think about it I don't mind shovelling a ton of shite!! -
How Do You Know When Your Feedings Ferrets To Much?
onthehunt replied to tiger82's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Yes they get dry alpha ferret food with some cat food and the odd rabbit. instead of the odd rabbit...make it the other way round mate...the odd bit of dry complete.. that stuff is just crap..full of shite and goes straight through them. rabbit, woodies, squirrels, roadkill etc etc anything with some flesh on it. please dont take this the wrong way..but fek the cat food off. I dont know how cats eat the stinky shite,Never mind giving it the Ferts. theres really no excuse for not feeding a Fert a good diet.. its free if you invest a little time during the winter and stock up -
No the sandys were in a separate litter! am not stupid I saw all the parents too but don't recall being told he was an eu or if I was I obviously wouldn't have been paying attention. like I said, he is nervy and reactive to everything but not what I expect a pure eu to behave like so am more than happy if he is just an ordinary ferret how are you so sure what an eu kit looks like? do you have any?
-
I'd get a second opinion, mate
-
Nice ferret mate, was he expensive ? another sucker Don`t be offended mate, but that there is just a dark ferret He cost me £30 and was sold at 6 weeks but the other sandy kits were £15 and were 8 weeks. I also saw some previous adverts on the net by the same breeder from 2009 onwards and found the prices were £60 His parents looked as dark as him and the father was quite a small hob. are male eu's meant to be larger than male ferrets??? dunno. but he is such a lovely boy just like a standard ferret kit that I find it hard to believe he's pure or X myself
-
Glad this topic came up cos I mentioned on an earlier post that I was charged more for my new kit cos he was a darker colour than the other kits its a bit strange. he is very dark and I have been wondering for a while now if I was sold a real eu and not just a dark ferret? he's a gem to have around and has tons of character but he does get a nervous and is very alert to everything around him. I can't for the life of me tell the difference between a dark ferret and a eu polecat and have uploaded a photo of him

Over the past few days, he's been bought some green and purple-feathered toys and is now consequently passing green/purple stools  really! I think the mystery has been solved important thing is he is pooping well and is coming up 12 weeks, meaning the bites are getting stronger lol

Yeah they have their own terms for just about everything!
-
Yes they do from end of January to September and that's how long mine stays in season for hobs are referred to as being 'in season' from every info source out there so I think its the general term for both sexes
-
NEVER wash ferret hutches with jeyes or any other solution that goes white when added to water, its phenol based and can be injested through the ferrets skin leading to death OP your kit with the problem chewing its feet? Had you used any such cleaner on the hutch? Y.I.S Leeview No I have not used any of the cleaning agents described above I can't believe that one would suggest using jeyes in a kit's hutch. I use pet-safe disinfectant from the pet store, very diluted bleach, scrubbing brush and several buckets of bleach if there are parasites (there are none now), I use indoorex spray
-
There are ferret shows???!
-
I do hope you are making light of the situation and are not serious about 'knocking on the head'. They deserve a chance at life too.
-
Yeah it is the same kit. he passes lots of normal healthy stools and last 'red' stool passed was over 48 hours ago but after literally pulling it apart and inspecting it, it was as I originally thought his red feathered toys cos I found bits of the fibres intertwined with the stool which gave it a bright red appearance there was also some rectal bleeding like you say so perhaps its best to remove these toys? he does really tear them apart and chew them. at the same time I don't want to spoil his playtime his chewing foot habit hasn't ceased but it was present way before I saw any bloody

February to September usually but if they are kept indoors, they can have seasons earlier due to the extra light source.
-
Up to 8 weeks surely? then they go to new homes? people I know that sell kits in the London area never seem to be stuck with them for long and they always fetch about £35 a kit! there is a well known west London pet shop that charges, I kid you not, £200 for 8 week old kits and £70 for adults.
-
sorry to hear that. it looks nothing like your average ferret though
-
you get all types o ferrets apparently you could pay upto 60 quid or more for one o them e/u ferrets sorry polecats lol con if you ask me like but if you fancy tryin one crack on pal its your hard earnd there should be plenty litters to choose from goin bout always is this time year atb Eu polecats/ferrets cost more? oh no I hope I wasn't sold one of those lol Better get on flea bay for some welding gloves Then again he's way too sweet and tame to be a pure eu or eu hybrid. in any event, I couldn't tell the difference in appearance between a dark ferret kit and an eu polecat k

I found out later that his other silver and sandy kits were £15 though but because mine is polecat colour I was charged more. he had the colours I wanted and I happened to be in the area at the time. I dont see the logic. Polecat is a common colour so why would you pay more for it? I found out later that his other silver and sandy kits were £15 though but because mine is polecat colour I was charged more. he had the colours I wanted and I happened to be in the area at the time. The fact that the breeder was charging more for a polecat coloured fert would have been enough

Prices can vary hugely from £15 to £35. that's the difference I've paid in the past eg my current 10 week old kit cost me £30

I bought a small hob from melton mowbray auction when i was about 15-16 and after the sale (I bought it for a £1) the seller came over for a chat and told me it was 50% polecat too. I do believe it because it was extremely dark colour (almost black all over) and never acted like a ferret and it never seemed to tame down entirely and it gave me the worst bites I have ever had off a 'ferret'. Anyway apart from being small for a polecat it was every part a wilder ferret and it turned out to be useless for working. So just to warn you, if you get one anything like mine you are going to have to sp

Is there a big difference between a eu polecat and a ferret? never seen an eu before
-
Is £20-30 considered expensive?? I'd say so. So would i for something thats not going to be much use or put many rabbits in the bag at the end of the day suppose some want something to show off with like a European polecat
