What do you mean by real pointers ?This should be interesting I have to say I really enjoy a day out shooting over the pointers there is nothing like it for me and to see your pointer progress and evolve it is as satisfying to me than bringing on a young digging terrier or lurcher and I never though I would say that about a gun dog

Very much depends on weather, how many you put down ,how good you are at keeping them in about ...plenty of cover decent feed ,dogging in etc ....even the type of pheasant as some types wander more than others ....but you can't say generally there is a lack of pheasants

I cut the saddles into 3 pieces remove the topskin then cut horizontaly then springle with biltong spice and wrap in cling film put in the fridge for minimum of a week to allow the spice to go right through the meat then pan fry ... the haunches are deboned and the meat cut into slices .....roll out tin foil and cover with streaky bacon put down layer of venison then haggis or black pudding with onions biltong spice and lea and perrins another layer of venison on top and finally coverd with streaky bacon and roll up in tin foil ....cook at 100 for an hour then 180 for 30 mins then slice open

Went out with the big German looking for snipe as I have never shot one I fact I have never even lifted the gun to on ...the bitterly cold wind was swirling and it was very heavy rain at times ...Rab was working a bit too fast and put a few up but never pointed any ...the dog worked well in the conditions and had a crakin point and flush with a great shot even if I do say so on my first woodcock of the season and 5 pheasants in 1 field ...a very enjoyable hour considering the weather.
