Pity you're not local to me as I'd have jumped at the opportunity. Good luck mate.

Yeah it was probably possible. Trouble is these days the RSPCA see themselves as the Animal Police and it seems some let it go to their heads. Their work is good but not when its misdirected. That said, I fail to see why firearms ownership is relevant to the RSPCA unless they're playing it as a Health and Safety thing for their inspectors so they know what they're walking into. But to be honest, unless they're going around with an armed response team, which is unlikely without reason to believe a specific threat, I fail to see how it helps them.

I know of worse - this is hearsay as its only what the guy told me so don't take this as gospel fact, but I have no reason to disbelieve him as he's always been honest in my experience and I did see the vans there myself. The guy around the corner from me who was seriously ill himself had a visit from the RSPCA over his dog (not sure how they found out). Anyway the dog, which had always been lovingly cared for, was terminally ill so he'd taken the dog to the vets for an opinion and the vet had said the dog was fine to carry on for now and shouldn't be put to sleep as it wasn't sufferin

Never shot deer but I agree with Charlie 100%. You can't be aware of your surroundings and what lies beyond the target if your total focus is a rushed shot into an animal in the foreground, not to mention the wounding risk. I'd 100% rather let a target go than take an untenable shot - in fact I've done it, I was out shooting when Charle appeared and then disappeared into a field of wheat. I could just about see where he was but, did I take a shot, no! Simply because I only had an idea of the lie of his body not the full picture as all I could see was the very top of his head and I wasn't p

Foxes Or Rather A Lack Of Them
Alsone replied to charlie caller's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
The trouble with today' society is that when you look back through history it was always live and let live. Now many of the left of society believe their way is the right way and they have the right to dictate how other people should live. If they don't like guns, they're shouldn't be guns. If they don't like private landowners, then they should have the right to trample over their land even though most of the land concerned has never been open to the public. If they don't like big houses, then builders should have a new standard of building smaller houses so they fit more in and build -

Yeah but think how cruel you're being to the trees. They didn't ask for their paper to be shredded. And what about the clay? 1st you put it in a steel box, then heated it for hours and when it finally got is composure together, shattered it back down into pieces....... I'm off to start a new welfare group. -
I'd just be very careful to make sure everything the operator is doing is legal and above board. The last thing you want to do is risk arrest abroad and ultimately you are going to be responsible for your actions not the operator if caught breaking the local state laws. I can't profess to know what they beyond snippets on the internet so can't comment beyond saying I'd be asking the operator about pig numbers, tags and licenses, and where you will actually be hunting ie what ground in what state / area, and then the local state government (maybe through their town hall or equivalent) as t

Sako 85 Varmint Laminated Stainless available in Left Hand: http://www.sako.fi/pdf/specs/85VarmintLaminatedSS.pdf Heavy barrel and wood stock. If you don't want stainless or laminate then the plain version is available left handed also: http://www.sako.fi/pdf/specs/85Varmint.pdf I have a friend who has a friend with a .223 and he says its a tack driver at 300 yards. -
Ah ok I take it the rules are different again in Ireland. I think only thing I can suggest then is selling yours and buying either that one 2nd hand or a new Mossberg. Looks like you're pretty much out of options this side of a barrel import as the chances of finding someone selling only a barrel are very slim and then you need to check its in proof. (BTW I was under the impression they were dated (not looked at marks in a long time) but looking around the web it seems that proof marks only indicate the day they were proofed not a duration so it looks as if it a calliper job to check thick

Don't know how current this is but no mention of air rifles here under permitted weapons only centrefire rifles http://www.jesseshunting.com/california-hog-hunting-info-guides-links It also sounds expensive $67 per pig tag (bought in advance and non refundable) + need a $151 hunting licence.

Disposing Of Fox Carcass
Alsone replied to Skot Ruthless Teale's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I've seen them in daylight (mid afternoon believe it or not), on the edge of the Peak District, crossing fields from one wood to another, which ever small deer they were. -
Have you tried approaching a Mossberg dealer for spares? Surely they can buy one in at trade and then retail it to you.

Disposing Of Fox Carcass
Alsone replied to Skot Ruthless Teale's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Well I could have been wrong as I'm no expert and they were at a good 400 yards distance when I saw them. Were definitely very small deer, I got that much! -
Paulas has a good point. Failing that you need to have the same calibres otherwise sharing would give access to calibres not on your certificate and that would be a big no no. Ask the FAO for advice.

That is a 200LB Irish Blue caught in 2000 out of Union Hall West Cork on 25LB Main line. Did it throw you back? (nice catch btw). -

I have no experience with shooting deer but why would you not want to eat Munjac or Roe?. Honest question. Don't like venison TBH and there are no game dealers in my area. It was hypothetical as I don't hold an FAC atm. Question more for the future as I have a permission in mind and amongst the problems are deer attacking a small plantation of trees. Haven't seen the deer in question but have seen some Muntjac in the area. -

Can I just widen this further, what do you do with a deer carcass if you shoot a deer for pest control but don't want to eat it? hedge also? -
Damage To Swift Moderator By Hmr Bullet
Alsone replied to kenj's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
There's on bullet here that's shot 3 times before it finally fires plus 4 other misfires from the same box! I'm still unconvinced myself that the bullet would lodge in the barrel without some other bore issue 1st. I still believe it may have been a combination of factors such as low velocity hang fire that got stuck behind a baffle that had in some way become damaged or slightly out of alignment followed by the 2nd round impacting although equally the 1st round could have left the barrel and the 2nd round just hit a problem with the moderator. Either way, one thing that -
Which Rifle Is Better???
Alsone replied to Mitchell Thompsett's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I'd have a look at this video on scopes as well as it specifically looks at quality: The guy who does it has produced literally hundreds of shooting videos - you can find them all in his channel and is an ex US forces (possibly special forces) sniper. Watch a few of his vids and you'll soon see what I mean - 1st time hits at 1,800 metres in some instances. Loads of training videos. Goes through brand by brand and assesses optical quality at different price points. -

Well it could be perhaps that they're staying urban close to the food source. I don't know, but its one possibility. -
Newbie Looking To Get A 12G Shotgun
Alsone replied to Worzel40's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Make sure you check anything you buy is in proof if buying 2nd hand (the date should be stamped on the barrels usually by the receiver). Also, check for obvious excess wear.
