  1. A problem with what mate? Do you have one of these super new nail guns? He could be a builder.
  2. You'd have seen fireworks with any obstruction to be fair as lead doesn't spark so the fireworks will have come from the baffles being ground against one another as the mods internals were ripped apart. You didn't say at 1st that you got lots of smoke from the breach after the 1st round. That's not a hang fire but a misfire as quite clearly the cartridge had fired. I'm still with rimmer on this that its highly unlikely that the 1st round was stuck in the barrel through simply being fired. As I said earlier it only takes a few pounds to push 20gr of bullet out of the barrel, there would
  3. Very doubtful Really, well do enlighten us and tell us where you think the bullet from the first hangfire went then? I agree on the "idiot" point. It was a bit harsh which is why I never used that phraseology. Besides we all make mistakes, even stupid ones! As for the hang fire, I'd expect it went no-where. That's what a hang fire is, the primer fails to initialise so the bullet never fires. When it did fire it 2nd time around, it would have had to go off with virtually no pressure to leave the bullet still in the barrel. Even at 5 foot pounds an air pistol will throw a
  4. Don't bet on that. You brother is in big trouble and what I would do is i) take advice from the BASC firearms department and ii) get the gun into the possession of a dealer straight away at least then he's no longer in possession of it. The police are more likely to be sympathetic if he's been responsible and transferred the gun to a registered dealer. There's no easy way out of this as even if he sold it and claimed he'd sold it ages ago, he'd still be in trouble for failing to register the transfer plus the truth would come out as to the transfer date, when the new owner register
  5. Yep you should always clear a rifle properly before going anywhere near the business end. Magazine off, cycle the bolt to eject the one in the chamber, further 3 cycles after nothing comes out, remove the bolt only then check the bore..... Anything else and you my be joining those previous bunnys in heaven! On a separate subject... I also have a little hard time believing a cracked case could cause damage to the mod. At the end of the day the bullet goes up the barrel straight - it has no choice due to its physical restriction and the rifling. Now if it hits something in the modera
  6. I've seen Charlie tonight about 10pm although I'm urban but on the edge of the countryside. He was going through people's gardens. Looked like quite a young fox though.
  7. There's an online shooting diary now btw: http://shootingdiary.co.uk/ You're right with the antis, they only see it one way and you'll never please them. But the fact is that shooting in most cases is a by product of pest control or conservation and it only inflames the situation when people in a minority such as Jeemes come along and declare they shoot only for the sake of killing stuff as it only reinforces the bloodthirsty cruel b*****d image and causes he benefits of shooting to get lost behind the bloody thirsty image, and that image does nothing but feed propaganda for a ban.
  8. The Home Office Guidelines don't hold .22lr as good reason for fox. HMR isn't listed as it came out after the guidelines were drawn up but many forces no longer allow .17 HMR either, although most did initially. The guidelines are here: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/117797/HO-Firearms-Guidance.pdf Page 82 contains calibres vs good reason.
  9. KILLING. IS KILLING. dont be so nieve as to think you can hide behind a few words. like shooter/ stalker/ . as far as your average anti is concerned.. everyone that kills animals in whatever way by whatever method FOR WHATEVER REASON. is fair game. get real. But there is a difference between killing for the sake of it and killing for conservation of the natural balance or the table. conservation is a good word to hide behind. as it is bigger . try that one on the anti's. it wont work any more than it works on me. unless your in a paid job. then your out there becouse you en
  10. Driven birds and game birds are eaten so go to the table so it's no different to rearing a cow and eating the beef. The only difference is you do the killing yourself rather than at the abattoir. The whole principle of most live shooting sports is you're either: 1. Eating the quarry - killing eg a pheasant means you wouldn't go to the butcher and eat a chicken so a life taken in the field saves a life at the abattoir as its reduces the demand to restock by 1. So its absolutely no different to eating meat any other way apart from you do the killing. 2. Culling off the excess

  13. What he's trying to say is that the underlying reason for the "sport" is not to enjoy yourself but to control a pest species that generally is out of balance in the countryside. The fact that some people may like the thrill of stalking and shooting a fox is a by product of the need to control the species. There are very few people who would go out and shoot a fox simply because they wanted to kill wildlife, because destroying wildlife for the sake of it, is not something that most people would want to do. Most people involved with shooting are involved with conservation, either dir
  14. Yeah but neither .22-250 or .243 are very quiet. If noise was the reason for not allowing you a shotgun they might not been keen on those calibres. Also, the police are a little wary about granting centre fires straight off. Not saying it doesn't happen - I learnt this week that my force won't allow rim fire against fox, so around me if you need fox control they have to grant centre, but many forces prefer you to have rim fire 1st. If you need quiet, .22lr with subs and a moderator is the way to go, near as damn it silent.
  15. I concur. As Social Services are putting your children up for adoption against your will the police will be worried you might want to use the firearms to try to take the children back using force or exact revenge against the social workers. My advice would be sort all of the paternity stuff out. Then wait at least a year after it has settled down before re-applying so there's some evidence you've accepted the new situation before re-applying. If on the other hand you win custody and get awarded all of the children, you could perhaps re-apply in 6 months following the custody award, as
  16. Yeah but no-one knows who he is on the internet anyway and he wouldn't be the 1st or the last to have licensing issues. Bringing them out in the open at least lets people advise on the best course of action and whether or not there's any chance of either challenging the refusal or getting a licence in the future,
  17. I quite agree Charlie on the field craft bit. Personally I'd go for the head shot if I was taking a shot and that range and only take it if the body was upwind, so it should be hit or miss. That said, I doubt I would shoot at the range, I was just illustrating the point about comparable velocities and energies. I did change the range from 300 to 250, mainly because I remembered the bullet drops incorrectly and only realised I quoted figures from memory that applied to the closer range. There is a new video up about this calibre. There's a full transcript below which I actually got more
  18. I fail to see the difference between a centre fire at 250yds with 1800fps and 150 ft / lbs and a rim fire at 250yds with 1800fps and 150 ft lbs.
  19. Sorry I meant 250 yards. But either way, 7 inch is better than .22 Hornet (12.7 inches with factory ammo) and it still has as much energy as the Hornet on factory ammo, (150ft lbs vs 163 ft lbs) so where's the difference? You telling me 150ft lbs at 1,838 ft sec won't drop a rabbit cleanly especially with a ballistic tip? That's also, more than someone with a .22 Magnum uses at 100 yards against a fox! It's also as fast as the HMR is at 100 yds and as much energy as the HMR has at approx 70 yds. So you wouldn't shoot a rabbit at 70 yds with HMR? C'mon! I'd also head sho
  20. Well if wsm performs as stated then you could have taken them down at 300yds without moving as drop is 7 inches with a 150 yd zero from memory.
  21. I like Browning. Would by a 725 at the drop of a hat (or a 525 second hand). Its all preference though. Best way is find a dealer with a range where you can try and go try. Every brand balances differently and what matters is what feels right for you. eg I personally hate the balance of Berretta but love Browning. Others may say the same but the other way around.
  22. I see the problem potentially as being one of good reason to own a rifle of another calibre when an existing calibre arguably does the same job but better due to its flatter trajectory and longer range teamed with similar energy figures. If you were looking to shoot larger animals then a WMR would be easily justified but bunnys when you already have a HMR seems like a hard call to me. Could be wrong though.
  23. Not with steel shot you don't,(assuming you ever use steel) it all amounts to the death by a thousand cuts strategy, cant ban shooting outright so lets do it bit by bit to erode it until nothing is left, I would urge everyone to resist a lead ban in the strongest way possible, wherever you can. I forgot with steel they use plastic wadding to protect the barrels. Shows how much steel I've shot. As for ricochets, always a risk with steel but alos with any ammo. I remember being on a pheasnt shoot when the guy next to me got hit in the lip by a single pellet that ricocheted off a wall
