  1. wales1234.i always used to like to give a dog a chance no matter what cross it was .my friend had a boxer x greyhound great on hares .my father in the 1930s.saw a large standard poodle x greyhound and that was good on hares to.some of the best dogs are somtimes unusaul crossses
  2. wales1234.i have allways liked powerful built dogs gsd xg mal xg bull xg .if i see any well built lurcher i am allways intrested.some of the bigger bull x grey look really nice .i wouldnt say no to one if it thru about 26 27 inches and was of good powerful build
  3. wales1234.on you tube there is a 4 minute video of two ridgebacks running on a beach behind a quad tremendous stamina and most importantly power.see.rhodesian ridgeback versus quad
  4. c hall.i think the rhodesian ridgeback x greyhound would be a great deer dog fallow red etc .you might get a reasonable hare dog out of one they are a fast dog .i know a lot of people will say they would be to heavy for courseing but if a dog throws with height shape stamina and most importantly power it would catch some hares.obviously a good saluki x greyhound would out turn it .but it would still catch a few hares.it would certainly be a fox destroyer with all of its height weight and muscle power
  5. i really like the look of the saluki x grexhound x whippett greyhound.looks a quick away one
  6. paulus.rhodesian ridgeback x greyhound would be another choice but i will allways prefer gsdxg or malxg .if there was enough hares which there isnt saluki x greyhound which had thrown to the heavy greyhound side
  7. allways wanted a weimaraner x greyhound would be a nice clever fast dog strong powerful muscular fast with good stamina and tracking ability
  8. i am currently useing a samsung 65x intelli zoom cam corder.today i saw a hare a field away and couldnt pick it up very well.some of you lads have done some very good pics on here.i have been seriously considering doing a set of films on various lurcher crossses.and pure sight hounds crosses .ferreting working cover and other subjects etc ?.what camera would some of you lads recommmend for distance work and general filming.it would be a good thing for future generationsto see these dogs as they should be seen
  9. socks.that is a nice looking pup you have got there he will have a lot of years hunting ahead of him.nice well built pup good coat excellent built for the job shape.very strong looking . a good old fashioned looking lurcher
  10. labtastic .a man asked me once will you sell me that hare dog ? i said no because no money could replace whaht he means to me from 8wks of age up to now he and i have had such great times.he has taught and shown me so much. keep your 30 pieces of silver.i would rather he was never born than sell him to you .not everything in this corrupt world has a price .there are some things you just canott buy .foolish man thinks he can buy love and end up loseing thier fortunes to women .again and again they think all in the world is for sale.the world is being destroyed because of mans greed from the am
  11. sirius.i think you have hit the nail on the head.
  12. country joe.greyhounds in ireland are muzzeld .but the antis are still trying to get it banned.
  13. any fat overweight man can shoot a hare driven towards him with a twelve bore any man with a little training can set a up high powerd scoped rifle and shoot a hare at a hundred yds ,but to breed a good hare dog takes patience training feeding breeding .you cant buy a good hare dog off the shelf .it is something you mould from 8weeks of age to maturity .something that takes a long time to come to hand.thaht has a far greater sense of achievemeant than blasting a hare with a firearm.with a twelve bore or high powerd rifle the odds of escape are very low the outcome is more or less assured .seei
  14. if i was a hare and i was given the choice of two barells from a twelve bore a high powered rifle bullet or being coursed i know whaht i would chose
  15. the leveret was laying in the red clover in june when she first of all was chased .a young sxg coursed her to within a inch of her life .she was so strong and made of the right stuff she made her escape. over the next year or so foxes buzzards and lurchers tried to kill her .but to no avail.then one day in november the gypsies came with there champion sxg five out of five every time a real killing machine the course seemed to go on for ever .oh ah nearly he will catch her .the old gypsy smiled and thought back to his youth and to such a hare as this .never will he catch her she like him is spe
  16. chalkwarren.relocateing is a very good idea if i had the funds i would purchase as many as i could get .up hear hares nowdays are very thin on the ground.new stock would be great to revitalise the genectic pool.i like to see hares about not to chase but just to know they are there
  17. Lovely Goddess of the bow! Lovely Goddess of the arrows! Of all hounds and of all hunting Thou who wakest in starry heaven When the sun is sunk in slumber Thou with moon upon they forehead, Who the chase by night preferrest Unto hunting in the daylight, With thy nymphs unto the music Of the horn-thyself the huntress, And most powerful: I pray thee Think, although but for an instant, Upon us who pray unto thee
  18. when i see hares shot i personally feel spiritually sick.one looks like it is in kit .it is up to the individuals conscience but it makes me feel so sad and depressed .showing shot hares on this forum just isnt right .for a hare to be chased by a good strong dog nature against nature yes but to be blasted by a twelve bore or rifle just isnt right.also the changelings witches wont be happy lady diana the huntress would be very dissapointed .hares are for the chase not the gun .as are deer and rabitts.no matter how many times i get slagged off for saying so shooting hares and other four legged
  19. cumbrianmoutainman.you are right about the myxy up here in south bedfordshire .in the summer the ground near me was crawling with rabitts a few months later really bad myxy .wiped most of them out
  20. macky.i agree that the dog may have been livestock worrying but even if thaht is true they should be nicked for leaveing the poor thing to suffer
  21. paulus.shot gun spread patterns are on you tube and shot sizes are common knowledge to shotgun owners .not that i own any shotguns nowdays
  22. looking at the shape of the shot round it looks at least like no 4 shot to me looks to big for no 7 shot obviously shot at a distance by the spread of the pellets between 40 to 50 yds depending on the choke of the barell shot side on not frontal .looks like dog might have been running some prey at the time and some shotgun owner did not like it doing so .could even be bb shot or no 1 shot
