  1. whippet99.if you have a greyhoundy lurcher or a whippety lurcher .it would be best to take it a bit easier with the early training because greyhoundy whippety lurchers have not got the bone the stamina or the physhical strenght of the gsd xg. the reason you can run gsdxg early.is that the gsdxg is far more powerful physhicaly it has far more weight and has better overall strenght and stamina.it has a bigger engine bigger lungs stronger constuction etc .when you run a young whippety or greyhoundy lurcher on a hare for excample they are both very revvy dogs lightly bult and light boned .thier e
  2. bunnys .bird.hopefully as more people get to know about this cross it will spark a comeback for the cxg gsdxg type crosses .looking forward to your reports next season .i think by this time next year you will both be very happy with the way these pups are turning out
  3. these types of crosses have got a lot of physhical power and they know it .especially if used for hunting first one i had caught a cwd preban and my mates saluki x cg pup 9 months old was growled at told by the dog dont come near my kill.pup didnt listen saw a flash of white teeth i said oh its ok he missed him but he didnt he slashed him across the head just above his eyes looked like he had been cut with a cuthroat razor down to the bone.had one only 24 inches 70lbs ,got attacked by a dxg 29 at shoulder 85lbs .couldnt seperate them deerhound got a few little cuts gsdxg looked like he had
  4. it is best to train the two pups by going out with a older patterdale to follow up and learn. you can get a whippet pup at the same time because then it can run around learning the ropes fences barbed wire etc it is better for it to learn about those hazards while still young .if you can find someone with fully trained hedgeing dogs and whippets your dogs will advance far quicker.if not you will have to encourage the dogs natural instincts.i allways used to find that pups need a exspirienced teacher to advance quickly.going solo the training process will be a lot slower but you will learn as y
  5. paulsmithy 83.i had a gsd xg which was very good on ? i will be selecting two when my friend breeds and i will be makeing a video to prove my point that gsdxg if thrown right will kill daylight ?.you have to remember gsd are very low to the ground when running and have a very long stride.look up on you tube to see .combine the two breed corectly and watch out ?
  6. huwidge.some parts of the country are full of rabitts.but where i live in bedfordshire we have had very bad myxy so the lamp has to be put away no sense in killing off whaht is left .when i was a young lad we lamped all year round and caused a very big decline in the hare population .if i had my time again i would be less inclined to kill pregant or nurseing rabitts hares.all i did was cut my own thoat by doing so.i must admit you are right about the foxes up here its alive with them .i personally like walking the woods and fields in the snow without a lamp .colliexgreyhound come next season
  7. edrd.i haveant had any dogs for a few years but i will be getting a couple of gsdxg off my friend when he breeds some .
  8. borderscot. i agree you only have to go to a lurcher show you would think you were at romford or crayford dog track.i went to one at northamton first one for years and i thought i was at a flapping track
  9. pitch .i must say you are correct about haveing to use hailf cross to full breed depending on the dams blood lines .hailf cross to a fairly strong bitch with reasonable stamina full cross to a rocket on legs with little stamina
  10. bunnys.in the seventies i came across lots of lurcher owners who are no different to now.some owners want there dogs to chase any thing anywhere any distance i want a dog who if i lamp a rabitt looks and thinks.that rabitt is 300 yds out i dont have to galllop up there like my arse is on fire i can trot up to it.that rabbit is yds away two foot from the hedge i am not going to gallop up there wasteing my energy .look that rabitt is on the squat if i approach steadily and silently i can grab it out of its seat .oh my master has set up the long net i can zig zag the field and drive the rabitts
  11. jamesmc.the years have gone by and many crosses i have tried i have brought a few lurcher to lurcher pups .the problem with lurcher to lurcher is that over time the progeny tend to get thinner coats lighter bone thinner pads and less stamina and less brains.as i have said before my father who was a young man in the 1920 era said to me if your line is getting weak you have to put the bitch back to collie lab gsd or something similar to put back whaht is being lost brains coat stamina etc..people on here talk nonsense when they say first cross litter wastage .if like me you used to like chasei

  15. chalkwarren .they are cracking looking pups great colors goods bone weather resistant coats and nice wide heads .
  16. bunnys.i prefer gsd dog to greyhound bitch i think they are a bit faster but gry to gsd bitch they are definetly stronger .the younger lads on here probaly will think i am telling porkie pies .but up here in the seventies the ground was alive with hares.i remember going up to lord rothchilds estate at wing and skirting around the pheashant woods .following the lines of very tall hawthorn shooting out the longtails .then one day as i approched the estate i could see fires burning they ripped out all of the hawthorn hedges to make the fields larger i couldnt belive my eyes i still get upset ove
  17. bunnys. the brindle was gsd father greyhound mother slow away very fast top end great stamina 500 hares,240 deer by five years of age muntjack cwd barasinga fallow and 1 pere davide, you would have a job catching 500 hares around my area now to much hedge destruction.grass fields destroyed and to much pollution,he had faults like refuseing to chase rabitts in the lamp ,and stopping sometimes on daylight hares.i think being young and over keen i burned him out by overworking him .i wish i could have him back i would not have worked him so hard.i remember going courseing with the gypsies and inv
