Hi Donald ...I would get the permission. Apply for FAC ...remembering ,firearm optics,security, knives etc £££ Find a mentor, Do a course e.g DSC1 this wont make you a stalker but it will give you a start....more £££ Study your ground to know what you have on there, what you can take off that will benefit the deer , the farmer, and you . Sunday morning see me up at 5am .Kit packed ready ,quad loaded it was down to coffee making & out. Weather wise it was pants ! The ground was white, absolutely freezing my least favourite stalking conditions .But having said I would have a look over a mates place (he was away) I had to go and try .Arriving at the farm I wasn't holding out much hope given the frost, the only chance I might get would be on the edges of the woods, if the frost hadn't got under the tree line .I spent 2 hours glassing every bit of woodland ....nothing...not a deer fox or even a rabbit...the only thing stupid en

I to am lucky to have some good stalking ,although a lot of the luck is brought on by hard work & doing a proper job for the people I stalk for (the last 4 sat mornings I've been fencing ,with 4 more to do) & like philluk I take people out for free(1 person a month) .This is just my way of giving a little back ,the man that got me into stalking 30 odd years ago would take no money & when ever I asked him what do I owe you he's reply was always the same ,when you get your own ground you give someone else the chance to have a go. Seems funny reading these posts , yesterday we were all slagging the antis for laughing & taking pleasure in the death & serious injury sustained by hunting people .Something about relatives feelings ! .......What ever any of us think of her she's dead now .Just a thought..

PS my last 7 outing over the last 2 weeks have put zero deer in the chiller....I did have a couple of buck fawns come out the other evening & I could see the mature bucks just in the wood but by the time they ventured out I was so cold I couldn't stop shivering enough to get a steady shot ,so blanked again.....im not taking me out any more....... ......until tomorrow

I do find it strange that when you pay to go out stalking you get charged extra if you actually fire as shot ,I thought that was the purpose of being out stalking.If I take people out I want them to get 1 or 2 if possible. It can be a challenge getting people on a shot especially if there novices , but that said its a great feeling getting people on there 1st deer, they normally end up shaking like a leaf at the end of it. With regards to people not seeing deer , you don't actually have to physically see them to know they are there, the evidence will be pretty obvious ,from slot ,droppings,
