For some dogs, yes - and "lurcher" as a breed has a higher premium than " x bred " - as do some breeds, like staffies, bull types etc
I have mine insured - I don't have to claim, and try ( although I am the first to admit I don't always succeed ) to make sure my decision on what treatment my dog needs is not made on whether it is affordable/insured-payed but based on what is best for the dog.
I will cope with most wounds myself, but the balance of stitches/clips, local anaesthetic and general anaesthetic has to be weighed up to. Treating your own animals is one thing, but stitching a
