  1. Right, whilst this thred is running strong, can i urge you all to go on to Cockers pinned thred 'This is the...' and vote on the C.A. link. This maybe the only chance we have of repealing the ban, you can make the difference. EVERY vote counts. It's dead easy too!
  2. 'The' most important thing that has happened in the hunting world for 10 years and this link has only hit three pages so far...! Get ye bleedin fingers out, if you've done it put it up that ye have, crow like a gamecock, let's hear ya! Then get others to do so. Check through the pages and if there are THL mates you have that dont have a post on here, drop em a pm to get it done! This thred should never drop out of the top five posts in a 'new content' search... And only YOU can see that it doesn't..!!!

  5. If you own working dogs you MUST get this done... It's easy and dead fast... Do it now, no excuses!!!
  6. Your right about the swan upping, necks is a corruption of 'nicks', as the used to nick the beaks to identify the birds. How about the Blind Begger, yep, the gangland stuff is recent but the meaning behind the name...??
  7. If that was the pub sign, fair play to the landlord that had it. Like that boozer in Burscough i mentioned, the sign when i was a kid had a nice type bulldog, with a firm grip of a very angry bull's nose. All done old school, detailed and fitting with the meaning of the name. Just on names, i have a cracking little book here on the meanings of pub names by a bloke called Albert Jack. It's pocket size, informative, very well written and well worth a read. It's called 'The Old Dog An Duck, The Secret Meanings Of Pub Names.' Now, here's two for starters, that most famous London boozer
  8. French bulldogs are soooo last season! Jokes aside, they sort of are, last year blue Frenchies were the biggest thing on the market, i know of people paying thousands for bitches. Now them first few were grands but when they grow and produce, which they are now, though the price drops, the mass market begins. I'm seeing young Frenchies all over this city now. First season bitches being puppy machines... Horrible but the fuckwits dont give a toss, theres coin in dem der dawgs! And as for Paris and France, with them prices no wonder the likes of Booth went over... Though he's missing a t
  9. There are some damn good running dog men on this site from over your side. Have a look at their threds and i'm sure you'll find all you need.
  10. Never seen it, really didnt want to watch. Thing is though, they can show what they like, dogs are high fashion and big business and nothing will stop that wheel turning. I'd just like to think that lurcher folk have a long hard think before taking the plunge to breed. It may only be the one litter but it's just adding to the problem. Ask yourself, if I breed, am I really gonna get improved stock, are they the best I can get my hands on, or could I buy in better?
  11. Aww feck off Griff, now your just showing off and were only havin egg an chips tonight.... bugger! P.S. Can you give me a quote on a kingsize headboard?
  12. The Cock and Seaman...! Which does make me smile but historically and locally, it should always be the Doric. Degsy, i know that pubs have changed their names since there were first pubs but in this day an age, there still are some ancient names knocking about. The building may change but the name should always remain.
  13. Unless you want pictures of me dinner or the bed, i'm out, as thats all i can make!
  14. Yup, i'd be betting that Lutra is not who he says he is either...
  15. So much history is being lost in the pub game. From closing pubs to ejther changing original names, to 'sterilising' pub signs. The Bull and Dog in Burscough now has the worst, lame sign it could get. A far cry from the one that facinated me as a kid. Just down the road in Ormskirk, there once was a boozer (& hotel) called The Snig's Foot. A very old coaching name, as the place was an old coach house. A name that facinated me, as a Snig is an eel round them parts and it took a long time for me to find out why the place had that name BUT hey ho, what the feck does all that matter when some
  16. Fecking hell Socks, thats huge!! Fair play to the girl for soldering on with that lodged in... The relief she must be feeling....! I hope she makes a full recovery.
  17. Very nice, good blood too, you should do well with that.
  18. I just like the fact that people out there call em Fell Terriers, these days that name is fading fast... Though i'd be very surprised if someone swapped a worker for a un-entered dog..??
  19. Lutra, to me it's simply a sign of the times. Pictures can tell a thousand words, as someone once said. Lucas, Clapham and even early Plummer never had that luxury and if i'm honest, whats in those early books is already there. No point in doing another.. Lets be honest, though flawed, Fell Terrier is one hell of a book but who could produce sommat like that these days.. And the same with others, we live in a different world now (not always for the better!) Books is books, just because the subject matter is the same, the books should never be... You pays your money and takes your choice (an
  20. A real sickener Jiggy. I hope the dog makes a full recovery. A dog of mine suffered the same injury over 20 years ago. Same circumstances too! That dog lived and lamped again. Running through forrestry, or any trees is dangerous, especially when a dog gets right up behind quarry and turns it. Its got it's eye fixed and don't see what it's turning into. Broke front shoulders and necks are always on the cards but low lying dead branches and stumps can tear a dog from earhole to arsehole and as you mention, the shock and infection can kill a dog. I hope all goes well.
  21. Stealthgear extreme - The best allround kecks on the market imo

  23. Thank you Alex, much appreciated. If there is any books you may want to read and i have em, it would be great to return the favour.
