  1. I've enjoyed a good few days hunting with Lyn years back. I didn't know he'd put out books! I must get em!!
  2. Good stuff Cocker, thats the thing, i'd bet that plenty of people know of gear that go and can be traced back 30+ years but it all gets lost on here in a cloud of named breeds. Just take time to think of whats around them and why it's been around so long..!
  3. Neither a line nor direct type, there are two areas of this city that can trace dogs back through several generations. One pocket are the dogs that are round All Terrain's neck of the woods, i'd bet they could be traced back 30 years but AT could tell you more. The other are at the north end of the city and go back at least the same time, though i'd probably say longer. These are the local dogs, dogs we knew and ran as kids. No direct planning in em, just bred performanced based only. Didn't know much about what was in em either, as Penny said, they were just Lurchers. And they are stil
  4. Thats a fecking monster, stunning!
  5. If we are talking books then the ones that i've come back to are; Fell Terrier - Plummer World of the Working Terrier -Harcolme The Poachers Companion - Walsh A Mouchers Tale - Lloyd Stormy Nights, Frosty Mornings - Dooley I Walked By Night - Haggard Nathan - Plummer Green And Pleasant Land - Mursell In my opinion Plummer is the greatest writer of my generation, whatever his shortcomings and there where many, he could both spin a yarn or research like no other BUT I do believe Lloyd is a better wordsmith, says it like it is, factual and speaks to my ear more
  6. This page (18) of this thred must be the longest page in THL history..!
  7. I think if Hancock had the forsight, he would of kept a line off his original dogs. If he could trace a line back to old Merle he would be quids in! No different than what David James was doing but with better publicity! Farmed off potential studs for graft and kept a few bitches back. In todays market they would outsell his F1's etc but then i suppose the've done ok out of em anyway!
  8. Nice lookin dog that, reminds me of Eddie Jones's Celt.
  9. I do, the Yanks want/need a propper world sport game. They are trying to get behind 'Soccer' full time, i believe they will throw all they can at this and muscle-in. Couple that with grass roots football now on a huge scale, in a country that size and yep, they will win it before us!
  10. Feck off the pair of you..!!
  11. Brawn, boil the head till the meat is falling of the bone. Remove all good meat, put into a high sided tin or dish, squash it down and weight it overnight in the fridge. The gelatin in heads holds it all together and you slice when cold. Great in buttys or melt over hot chips.
  12. Bra's on Saturday nights only...
  13. There are 1001 types of grass you can put down but standard with or without rye is the usual. If it's gonna get heavy traffic get it with rye, its tougher. If not, without. To keep things balanced up it would be well worth spiking your esablished bit, giving it a top dressing and a sprinkling with the seed your using for the bare bit. Dont be tempted to overdo the seed on the new bit. Follow internet, book or packet instructions. Grass needs time to thicken and you can go over any small bare patches later. Keep it all well watered over the coming weeks and try to stay off it! Just remem
  14. Folks, if your on FB and follow any hunting related threds on there, please put a little post up directing people to the CA page to send the letter. I've been on over the past few days and put sommat on, unfortunatly to people who dont have a clue about the bigger picture. Either they, like last night, think its already happened, or they have no idea that it could happen... But it's only with their and your help. Spread the word...
  15. An Everton legend, a hero of my youth and a very nice fella too. 58 is no age. RIP Kingy. (Love that old terrace chant at the bottom AT )
  16. Easy for me, if you want to go, then go but do it properly, especially for your nearest and dearest. Watching people die slowly and painfully is hell... Laws need to change and religion needs to back the feck off..!!
  17. I'd like to see a book with mohatt, shearo, nicko the hislops etc Paul, when you gonna write it mate? Atb AT Ha! So would i mate, each of them would need a book of their own, well Moatt and Nico definatley, their tales should be in print... And dont tempt me mate, the ammount of time and effort would all but kill me..!!! Lol
  18. Welcome mate, please tell me one of your dogs is called Toto!
  19. Good post WM, answered what i only knew part of. Though i knew Jimmy before he left, I didn't know to ask him but I will speak to Joe. Just on books, Norman Mursall's books are a fantastic read and i highly recommend them.
  20. Don't really matter Sirius, i did put line in the post but it's more about old stuff and going back...
  21. Thank's for that Penny, just the sort of stuff i was after. Same with the coursing dogs. I love looking at the lines written down and you can see where it was first forged. I have put this question up every couple of years or so. I just go fishing to see if anyone knows of anything tucked away quiet like. I've never seen Hancock as a line keeper, just a commercial lurcher breeder, no matter how long he's been at it. Though some people may have kept lines from his earlier dogs? Same with David Jones, does anyone know if that line (and it was a line) of collie bloods are still about
