I've just put ten stickers on my gate, left the back gate open and taken the padlock off my run door. Hopefully that will get rid of the fecking pot lickers.

what does that mean juckel? Take it an expert,a naturalist, a museum of natural history or a zoo- anybody that knows what they are talking about and i'll gladly abide by the decision. I'm sure you will too. I live in Scotland and see both species most days.

The tenners yours or mine if you can get an authoratitive source to identify it either as a Brown hare or a Mountain Hare. It would be worth a tenner just to settle the dispute.

Well I've entered the bet for a tenner. But if it was shot near london then I'm not so sure. If you can have it identified as a Brown Hare by an authoratitive source and send me the documentation, Goldfinch I'll honour the bet.

It's a mountain hare,midway between changing from winter coat to summer coat. But if it was shot in the midlands it's very lost.

I know what you mean.There seems to be a lot less game about than there was. Everywhere is closed off too. Nowhere to roam without being treated like a criminal.

I like the shot of the dog jumping the hedge-at night. Very impressive. As I said in a previous post, I once saw a couple of saluki xs coursing a hare. When they came across hedges they sailed over them with a foot to spare in height. Most dogs will stop short at a hedge and look for a way through. These dogs just jumped them as though they weren't there. It's a great trick to teach a dog-puts a lot more gear in the bag. Anybody else got photos of hedge jumping dogs?

That's very impressive mate. I remember i had a dog of similar breeding which leapt over my back when I was looking over a dry stone wall. The bugger's back legs hit my head and sent it crashing into the wall and bled my nose.lol. It had seen a hare and used me as a feckin ladder.lol.

I remember when I was a kid our local scrapyard had a chained dog which was supposed to be an alsation/ deerhound. Whether it was or not I don't know. With a lot of lurcher types you start with a leggy dog and take away the number you first thought of.lol It did look just like what you would expect an alsation/deerhound to look like.It was never worked as a running dog but was a good watchdog. If a litter from a working type deerhound and an alsation ever came up I'd definitely be interested-or even better a deer/grey/alsation grey from working parents. .

These dogs can jump. A grey/malinois would be some athlete.

I How do you teach a dog to jump hedges? I once saw a oouple of saluki types sailing over 4 foot hedges with plenty of clearance and obviously enjoying it. It certainly helped them get their quarry.It's another weapon in a dog's armoury if it can be taught. I've never been able to teach this to a dog. Not only have they to come to terms with the height but also the spread across the top of the hedge. Any tips?

Start with tiny obstacles. Always use the same command. Give plenty of praise and encouragement. You could try throwing tasty titbits over the obstacle if it's a reluctant jumper. Walk away from your dog, providing the obstacle is not too big, the dog will be desparate to follow and should jump to get to you. Don't overface it by expecting it to jump pig netting topped with barbed wire immediately.. Work up to that only when the dog is jumping consistently and easily clearing the top of the obstacle. Give your dog lots of different jumps. You might find a dog will jump a five bar gate but
