  1. No not yet, but seen them working onYouTube, and would love to see it in the flesh
  2. The long memory - john mills, bad day at black rock,, cottage to let , an inspector calls, or most of the Ealing comedies
  3. Hello mate, is the gun chambered for 3 inch carts, and what are the chokes? (Baikal) thanks
  4. People keep banging on about dredging, but now the water meadows are gone, and they continue to build on flood plains what do they expect. Also, if you build up banks to stop the rivers flooding over the fields like they have done for centuries previously, it will naturally raise the level of the river. Combine that with flood defences to protect the new housing/towns and it's gona start backing up. It ain't rocket science!
  5. Anyone know or recommend a walked up woodcock day? Pref over pointers. Thanks
  6. I for one am disgusted by the way this emergency has been handled! As soon as it starts to effect London ,Berkshire and Oxfordshire it's then a national emergency that requires full army and navy response, but sod the West Country, they can put up with a bit of damp for a couple of months. Just shows just how detached/uninterested politicians are from the common man. That gap between the haves and have nots is getting bigger, and the government and the townies have no idea how the countryside works, and that this is gona hit us all in the pocket, even those on the public sector gravy train!
  7. I have heard better things recently, at sensible range. Cost me 21 quid for a box in 16 gauge, so bit cheaper than I thought. We will see how they perform!
  8. Supposed to be a real knack to keeping the buggas alight
  9. I think the class divide is back, and there is an even bigger divide between people who work in or have a connection with the countryside, and the rest of the suburbanites, wether they live in the towns or villages. I see it in the village I live in. People move down from London, and they have this glorified view of the country, as if it looks after itself, and is not the product of centuries of farming and hard work from country bumpkins like myself. My dad says I was born too late, I should have been there in the 50s when some of the old world still lived on in the rural folk
  10. I know for a fact you can still buy the old series on line, that's how uncool I am! Its a bit sad when I look at some of these old country boys, on tv 30 years ago, long gone, and see that their generation of people with a real connection of working the land, before the days of modern technology and pc madness is gone. End of an era!
  11. I don't know if any of you remember this series that used to be on down here in the south, but I was watching some of the programmes from the 80s recently and it was refreshing to see a lot of the old fieldsports and past times that were featured like ferreting, game shooting, fishing, mole trapping and fox hunting. Its been a long time since one of the big 4 terrestrial channels dared to put something like that on mainstream tv! Perhaps the producers of countryfile ought to have a look at some
  12. If its good enough for Mr Crabtree, its good enough for me!
  13. As a kid I remember a few old boys who smoked a pipe, and that the smell of pipe baccy was fantastic. Wondered wether anyone still smoked a pipe, as I havnt seen one for ages? Surely there must be a few of you old codgers out there?
  14. Depends what gun you have, and how many shots you fire whilst out there I would imagine!
  15. Just wondered how many of you folks felt confident with bismuth cartridges, and used them regularly?
  16. Not looking for lots of birds, and happy to muck in with maintenance. Please pm any suggestions. Thanks
  17. If I were to use an older sxs, with 2.75 chamber. Something like an aya or a gunmark? Bismuth?
  18. If I want to shoot ducks or geese, and the gun im using isn't proofed for steel, what are my options? I don't fancy using bismuth. Thanks
  19. As the title says, any converts to a pump. Most people (game shooters) that I talk to hate them, and say stay well away. As a simple, rugged tool, I must admit im drawn to them, but being a novice is it a jump to far too soon? Ta very much
  20. Ta for the suggestions. Any of you lot use a single shot 12?
  21. Looking for a cheap sxs for flighting, and poss wildfowling after I have had a taster. Any suggestions on a cheap, reliable, basic gun that's proofed for steel? Thanks
