  1. I'm in the Midlands and could hold on to a pup to be picked up to help Jacob out if needed ,...
  2. Just have a lurcher to lurcher that parents catch decent bags week in week out ,and set your sights higher than rabbits dogs ,as you may decide you want more later. I'd personally Keep away from people who breed for a living. But that's might be just me... Best of luck finding what you want.
  3. yeah sorry haha, what i meant was of all the times i've been to the vets it was there speed that got them into trouble.that and running out the beam through the woods. I think with the exception of running rabbits ,a driven lurcher will always do that , and those injuries are down to the luck of the draw , been lucky(ish) with just bumps and bruises ,but soon as the slip is off ..... they're in the lap of the gods
  4. I definitely agree on that mate if you get a knock on the door, having a good record at the vets could be the difference between getting your dog back or not.Correct....they seize most dogs on failing to seek veterinary attention . Even if they have something else they always put that in as a back up. That alone is enough to get your dogs seized
  5. Patterdales have a nasty habit of bumping into stuff in the dark too
  6. Just goes to show that line-breeding can't be that bad ,if there's 800 in these lol
  7. I think my pup is 6 or so generations on the fathers side and 3 on the mothers side Both sides the same stuff. My bitches sire is in the breeding about 4 or 5 times his brother is on there ,my old bitch and her sister are in there and my old bitches dam twice .
  8. Shaddy no experience with a beddy lurcher being protective, but all my lurchers guard,in a fashion ,the most protective being a Saluki bull greyhound. He generally distrusts strangers. His mother a bull cross warns people off,but wouldn't go any further than that. I like a dog that let's you know someone's about. Her other ,younger pup ,barks when people pass raising her hackles ,and all would convince me to try else where
  9. Agree about not just leaving them alone in a yard but the bouvier is not in my experience with them a high energy dog or highly string like many of the gsd, malanois and Doberman types (haven't had any experience with rottys) once they are trained up (which can be testing as they most definitely like to be boss) and past this puppy stage they are generally known for being very steady and sensible. They naturally guard but that generally involves placing themselves in what they deem to be the best place to guard and then looking like a black shag pile rug for the remainder until required. That
  10. from what ive heard and read about bouvier de flandres is they are very protective immensely strong and intelligent but not a dog for just leaving in the yard ,they need a job ,pretty much like most proper working dogs especially if they come from sport lines as they are bred for drive. unless you have the time for proper and continuous training id go for something a little more laid back ,most large breeds will warn off strangers ,most won't need a high driven schutzshund type dog that may need constant correction and training .
  11. a rough coat can hide a lot of sins, but more important is the quality of the coat, theres rough coats that are crap same as some smooth, some bedlington coats are rough but offer little protection when wet a Labrador type coat will keep warm,or a short thick coat. but more often than not keeping them cool is as important. I can't see how a coat will make a dog good or bad though in as much as ability, other than keeping warm or dry.
  12. I've heard The Russians breed some good boxers,
  13. Very impressive looking dog , seen a few on the net they make a rottweiler look small and any dog of that size would intimidate me if it was coming at me
  14. So unless you work males to the hilt use them as the end product and use females merely as "carriers" of genes, I'd want to know both parents are what I want .
  15. No It's not as simple as that due to the requirement of the original stud being used again and again Simply put , the stock would diminish from the female at a much accelerated rate than should the progeny be produced from an elderly father I see the female would be limited on the amount of matings she could do. But the theory is only as good as the 1st mating ,if that goes tits up ,you are back to square one ,but I see where the plan goes if each mating and pup works out ,keeping all or a lot of the bitches would be key though to use the best of the bunch, and having an equal up bringing an
  16. Get something with Saluki in it,it will hate strangers
  17. BTW I can understand the principles behind ,your plan. I would want start with a similar stamp and standard of dog and bitch, But what happens if you ain't happy with the 1st mating? Carry on regardless or try another bitch out the litter ,or start again?
  18. Kind of what I meant ...close inbreeding. Ideal if you have the stock that are tip top to start with and want to get traits "fixed" Wouldn't mother to son give similar results if she had the qualities you wanted?
  19. By back breeding do you mean mother - son etc?
  20. Pretty much the same as me but some want them to work to the gun ,ferret ,iron their shirt and roll them a fag while keeping the kids entertained with juggling.
  21. You 1st need to agree what an all-rounder is ,there's as many different ideas on that as what there is dogs that are "all -rounders" I don't use a gun so don't need a dog to work with guns ,I don't catch birds , So if the dog does all you need but doesn't do the above can it be an "all-rounder"
  22. I saw some lads out wit a gas that was barking the other sides a fence ,they sat on the gate, opened it dog ran out to get them ,they shut the gate, After 10 minutes of barking to get back in the dog fecked off ,following his nose ,and his me found freedom. Lol Point is they should be a deterrent but that's it ,if someone wants to get in a yard they will, the bigger the dog the bigger the Shit machine they are
