hi all,i would like to know if anyone knows of any falconry forums that i could join as i am trying to learn as much about them as possible, any advice appreciated.
  2. cracking way to start dfee! like ade said a redtail will learn you alot more in conditioning a hawk than if you take up a Harrishawk as your first bird, some redtails can gicve you the odd footing and nip when first being handled plus the manning will need to be more intense, once you get there though mate and get it in condition at the weight that suits the bird it will be all systems go .... By the way they're lovely looking dogs in the aviatar ... Jasper thanks for the advice,i was thinking of a male bird, were i live there would be more opportunity to fly at feather and squirre
  3. thanks for the advice,i would really like a red tail but might a harris for a first bird, and move up to a red in a few year,i won't be doing anything until i've learned alot more about bop's anyway theres point in rushing into it and ruining a bird, cheers again.
  4. hi all,i have been very interested in falconry and bop's since i was young, but never been in a position to own one,but now i am i was wondering which bird would be best i have always wanted a male red tail, but am unsure whether it would be suitable as a first bird,i would like to fly it on mainly feather but the odd rabbit and squirrels(i know alot of you dnt like to fly on squirrels)or would a harris be more suitable, cheers danny.
  5. crackers them steve good luck wi um.
  6. exellent ive just started mole castching last week,im addicted now,ive had 34 this week on 2 farms, and theres still more left.happy moleing.
  7. its the first fox i have taken dosent mean i dont no what im doing we all start some were i think what he means lads is was it neccesary to kill her cos she was obviously bellied up so it cuts short next years sport .its your first fox i can imagine you were over the moon which is fair enough but there is 2 many lads out there that are number hunters for the sake of our sport dont become one of them.you say you have struggled for your first well thats because 2 many people are 2 quick to kill all the best lads not having a dig ha excuse the pun try not to kill your next years sport so

  12. always release unless damaged or mangy(pre ban off course)the kill would be the anti climax of the day for me.nice to see a few of you letting stuff run.
  13. that fox was nice and calm as you can see as im un netting it then it just went wild,it managed to bite me on the fore arm .i,d had this fox twice though i dug it 3 week previously out of the same earth.i knew it was the same as it had a large scar across its muzzle.its one of my favourite pics to.
  14. i think all these have been on here already but might as well put them on again.no foxes were harmed in the making of these pics lol.

    old foxes

if you do dig them why not let them run for another day then at least you've had the sport for the dogs and they're still alive to breed, hunting to me is'nt about the killing really,it the challenge and the work for the dogs.
  16. as they say good things come to those who wait well done
  17. im left handed,i shoot left handed i use a catty in my left hand and a bow in my left hand im not sure if thats the right way round for a lefty but i used to hunt with a catty a fair bit and got quite good with it i cant use one at all the other way round.edited to say i dnt think the eye is as important when shooting with a catty i think its more of a reflex thing i dont really aim as such but just lift and shoot
  18. good doo second pics a cracker.
  19. the kids im on about have been taught by there dads and they're just as bad, just local nobs that are only into killing things, they dont care about the sport or the dogs,we've come across them loads of times and tried to tell them how to do it properly but they are'nt bothered how to,as long as they kill something.
  20. same happened to us today went to an earth that had been dug and half backfilled, then 100 yard away went to another and it looked like a bomb had gone off, trenched out all over,we have an idea who it is its a gang of kids who have already wrecked loads of earths,we've told them before but its like talking to drift wood, thing is the earths rarely hold anyway so they probably didnt even get anything out of them.
  21. i'd watch what your putting on a public forum mate.
