All farmers hate spending money even between each other. Most love to work on favours. I borrow your baler then you borrow my silage wrapper type thing. If you can do any turn at all for them then they will let you in as long as it doesn't cost there pocket then they freak out. Think ahead of the pack and keep asking. The best trick is to knock there door and ask do they own such an such field. I'm part of a small club less than 20 members and pretty much am not stopped lamping any of the 10 surrounding clubs because they know I only kill vermin on there land. My great grandfather , my grandfather, my father , myself and hopefully my son have shot only vermin outside our club and I wouldn't break that trust. Only shot game on our own lands and there has never been an issue of one of our members poaching game outside. Not many clubs can say that so I'll carry on. I've been to city west hotel Dublin a few times to watch world darts Grand Prix. It's a good piss up and a night out but rough crowd. It's usually punters from the rough pubs. Not a place I'd bring the woman an kids for an evening unless you have love and hate tattoos on your knuckles or mum and dad ? It's more of a night out for the lads to get sloppy. Bit like a stag night. Throwing beer, fighting and dancing on tables if it's a late night match when everyone is pissed. Busy night for bouncers. Pretty civil for early day matchs. Ive over 20 years experience 16 self employed since I was 20 years old so middle of the road experience and found with the new building regulations here in Ireland that most of the newly qualified brickys have learned the right way from day 1 and have a higher standard on the job than the old boys. 3mm tolerance on everything now on the bigger jobs but the old boys can't except that because they were allowed to let stuff slip for years. I was adding an extra block on flat instead of using bricks. 9 1/2 row which is technically 2135 without bedding up or down. Tell him to get an extra few bags of cement aswell because English brickys are sloppy and half the mortar will end up on the floor.? You had no problem making pillar 75mm wider too suit. What would NHBC ( whoever they are) say about that. It's 2 pillars not a Gothic arch. I never mentioned imperial either you did saying 4 inch blocks. I said 100mm. 4 inchs is 102.5mm. ?

675mm x 675mm at 2125mm high would take 171 blocks for both pillars. That's using 100mm x 440 mm blocks on flat.

Good post. The lack of insects is creating a snowball effect and reducing a lot of species numbers. Farmers don't and won't change unless it's hurting their pockets. Farmer beside me got a grant to set up nesting boxes. He nailed 8 boxes in 1 tree. He doesn't care about preservation but so many boxes per acre makes coin. Imagine 8 clutchs of birds in one tree.?

Plenty of hares around here until the coursing clubs rock up and net them. Funnily they are supposed to release them back in same area. I've seen them catching plenty of times but never releasing and the numbers drop after. They aren't even lads from our area. I've no interest in hares but something tells me they release them back on their own ground. Numbers dive every time they visit. There would normally be plenty about until they visit.

Like your idea as long as you don't drop an infected rabbit into a previously clean area. Still haven't heard any thoughts on the legality of dropping them. Do Uk laws differ from Ireland. Are they regarded as invasive species. It would be a shame to break the law.?
