Battle cross to me means crossing two totally unrelated lines to make a top box dog that probably won't be a producer. That's the problem with the dog game though isn't, all these terms mean different things to different people depending on the circles they move in.

I've been told it's illegal to have dogs on chains and that it will make them aggressive Really boils my piss actually because my dogs have more freedom and space on their chainspots than they would in a kennel and the same folk that say it's cruel probably think nothing of locking their dogs in a crate all day while they're at work -

There would be ways around that,like they need to pass with a better than average score with a vouched for independent club,and if possible gain a recognised title/qualification. Yeah youre right an actual SchIII or equivalent title from an independent club would solve that problem

I think over 100 years of breeding without any influence from other breeds qualifies the APBT as a breed in its own right. I save "type" for things like digging terriers that are often outcrossed.

And that's the problem, if you make it so these show dogs need to pass a working test before being bred from the clubs will just make the tests easy enough for the potlickers to pass rather than bar big name kennels from breeding.

some of the tight bred family lines of a.p.b.t. are almost their own breed, a breed within a breed if you will. so when you take two separate tight family's and cross them together it usally brings out the best in them (or worst as has already been stated). any tight family needs to be outcrossed every now and then or it will eventually kill itself...Yokel Honestly with how true some tightly bred strains breed when it comes to both behavioural characteristics and physical conformation it's easy to start considering them as separate breeds.

Don't German show dogs need to pass a basic working test before being considered good enough to breed by their breed club? Certainly hasn't helped their show lines.
