  1. Great result!! - What river are ya trappin on??
  2. I wish we hadn't qualified!!!!!!!
  3. I wonder are English lads a bit nervous after seeing Sweden and Ukraine - I tort France and England would get out of group but I was impressed with alot of the players in the other match last night
  4. I'm depressed:( - I know Croatia where probably the better team(Modric is a class act) but we had absoulutly no luck in that game whatsoever!!
  5. The funny thing is that Anglers all around the country are protesting against the very same fishermen in Kerry using driftnets that are cleaning out breeding stock heading back to to lakes and rivers in the SW.
  6. We do this a couple of times during early spring to flush out any lamp-shy foxes lurking in cover - its good fun for all concerned (lads bring their terriers, labs, spaniels, hounds etc. for the workout) and we usually get anything up to half a dozen foxes over a 2-3hr beat. Definatly pays dividends for game cos you get them before they start denning when their food demands obviously increase. We've even nailed a few mink this way in recent years thanks to one particualry keen spaniel/collie cross
  7. I was talking more about in the immediate vicinity of the pens when the poults are getting their first tast of freedom - my pens have roof netting to keep out the unwanted avian guests which seems to work pretty well. I occasionally get visits from sparrowhawks at this time and they do take a few poults in the immdeditate vicinity of the pens but tbh the likes of mink and foxes are the ones that cos the real chaos when they visit - but I guess if these birds are to hack it in the "wild" they will have to be hardened to these type of stresses to some extent. Indeed birds that learn to keep to
  8. That would be my impression too - I loose a few poults to sprawks but the buzzards in these parts seem to prefer easier meals like bunnies, roadkill etc. So you think a wild rabbit is easier pickings than a newly released poult? This is a question by the way not a statement as i dont know what ground you are on? I guess it depends on the seize of the poults when released and how much cover you have on your shoot. Rabbits tend to feed out in the open more, on short turf etc. and the young ones are particulary clueless with regards to predators. Same goes for rats at harvest time when
  9. That would be my impression too - I loose a few poults to sprawks but the buzzards in these parts seem to prefer easier meals like bunnies, roadkill etc.
  10. Funny how the country has gone to sh*te since they built that new motorway through Tara and all its ancient remains!!
  11. What a load of c*ck!! - when is this nonsense meant to kick in and why are we only hearing bout it now??
  12. I betcha that was inspired by that Mel Gibson film - Apocalypto I think it was called
  13. A good quality fox trap might be worth the investment if your keeping poultry
  14. Frogs eat slugs and other garden pests - I know which I'd rather more of!!
  15. Sounds like a very nice project you got going there FB - what you say about regrowth after larch thinning is so true. We cleared a section near the Duck ponds to allow in some light and the speed in which natural cover reestaiblished itself was phenomenal.
  16. I've had success with Twix bars and bacon rinds
  17. I assume your talking about rodents - I still use traps/terriers for rats since its safer for non-target species/pets and avoids problems with rodents dieing in wall cavieties and causing fly and odour problems around buildings etc. It also allows one to keep track on progress in treating an infestation
  18. Good stuff - my averge so far since the start of this month is about 2 per week.
  19. Set up a Larsen Trap on some land belonging to my boss early last year - really doing the business on magpies, must have got over 100 since last spring. Himself is really into it now so I can concentrate on the new one I'll be getting soon:)
  20. keep chickens, pigs and geese, they get fat on the high protein feed Just asking cos the biggest rats my Terriers have got are always in and around ponds, canals etc.
  21. Never underestimate Charlie or the likes of mink etc. I know a guy who was sure hawks were the culprit around his release pens since he reckoned he had lamped out Charlie. I convinced him to get a trail cam to see what was going on when he wasn't there. Turned out a lamp shy dog fox was helping himself to a poult take-away most nights. Got him with a trap in the end = problem solved. Buzzards are slow, noisey and rather stupid(as BOP's go) so often get blamed for such problems since there presence in an area is much more obvious then a cute fox, mink, feral cat etc. PS: Have you tried Myla
  22. Thats a good seized rat - are you near a river/pond/canal??
  23. That is correct with regards to the UK, not sure about Ireland though.. Neither I'am I - Strange how you can buy and sell something like a dog, rabbit, canary etc. but not something classed as vermin like a magpie
  24. I'd go with a mink - I've trapped loads of the little feckers in similiar situations(near water bodies). Last year I disturbed one that was finishing off a young duck out the back of my Uncles house. Theres alot more of these around then people think since they are very secretive, small, mostly nocturnal and generally keep to cover.
  25. I'm taking deleivery of a new Larsen trap in the next few weeks - I'm just wondering do lads buy and sell call birds??
