by no means do they turn into slugs at night, but even a poor excuse of a dog stand a higher chance of pulling one at night than in the day, seen many poor dogs pull by simply have it run into a fence, never seen this in the day though

Plenty of deer make mistakes during the day and hitting fences isn't uncommon. At your young age it's not surprising that you haven't seen or experienced a lot of things that are fairly common. As you get older and get more experience under your belt you'll see a lot more things.
