Fellers I am Very Gratefull for your kind remarks and offers of money and other offers, but a lot of you chaps are struggling to survive with the state of the economy, What I intend to do is to sell a totally mint Air Arms S400.22 carbine with the latest AA moderator, sling, and a 3x9x 50 Hawk IR scope. the whole rifle is absolutely unmarked and has been serviced to my high standard, plus I will give the buyer a two year g/tee plus a free service at the end, the money raised will be given to Sam in order to replace his loss, Many thanks again for your kind offers of help.

Extremely well thought out rifle, the bonus with the 300/400 series rifles is they are easy to strip and service compared to the BSA range and most other makes of rifle. I love my S400 carbine.

You might remember the good news about my grandson Sam who started a apprenticeship with Westley Richards the B,ham gunmakers who I posted on here , to cut a story a bit shorter I told how young Sam has to cycle to Wellington Rail station about three miles, then catch a train at 7.30 Am to B,ham then a 25 minutes walk to the factory, yesterday his day was ruined. he got back to Wellington station just after 7pm to find his mountain bike had been stolen by some ****** low life probally to sell for drugs he had a very good lock to secure his bike to the cycle rack so the Idle T**T who stole it

Clay Shooting Instructor Recommendations, Midlands
Tron replied to hedgerow pete's topic in Clay Shooting
You should remember the wise words, those that can do, those that cant teach. where is your nearest clay ground?. -
Thanks fellers, I didnt say what young sam has to do to get to work each day. He has to rise at 6- 15am and after showering, having snap, he rides his pushbike 2.6 miles to Telford Central railway station, chaines his bike to the rack then catches the train to B,ham, from there he has a 20 minute walk to the factory!.My heart swells with pride with what he has to endure each day to get to and fro for his job, the money of course isnt much after taking out the train fares but he is still so keen with what he is learning from the time served gunsmiths, He has of course had his leg pulled unmerc

Many years ago I applied for a apprenticeship with Webley and Scot, who'se factory at the time was over the road from West bromwich football ground this was in 1954 when I left school, I was accepted and the wage was to be £1.15 shillings a week I was over the moon as I had allways had a great interest how guns was made, when I got home my reception was a clip up the ear from my dad who said "thats no good you will after get a proper job with more money to bring home(I was the eldest son of 9 children and money was needed. so ended my chance of becoming a gunsmith. however my grandson Sam has

A regulater is a worth while mod but I should save your money on a "Service" by some of (not all) having a laugh in my opinion, theirs a lot of good money being wasted for little return.

Walter Lgu Vs Hw 77 /97
Tron replied to Martin Hinchliffe's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Nice rifle, the only thing against it is the weight, 9.5 pound unscoped would be far too heavy for me to tote around having said that the HW 97 and the AA TX would be the same. -
£300 is top wack for that combo offer him £250, from my own experience he would be offered just under £200 from dealers. at the end of the day its cash that talks dont jump in and pay what hese asking.

Hiya Doc, the best way to understand what trigger adjustment screws do on the AA 400 /500 series is to remove the left hand side cover plate on the trigger assembly, it is held on by 2 small screws, by doing so you can set up the trigger exactly as you wish plus visually you can see what each of the 3 screws do in regards to fine sear setting, first pull travel, and as you have found out trigger weight.

I remember some 20 years ago I shot a Comorant with a .22 Brno rifle, much the same in size as a goose, the mate I was shooting with said dont bin it I will take it and cook it!. I had a phone call from him a couple of nights later and he said he had to skin it because he found it allmost impossible to pluck it, so he did that and cooked it but said it tasted fowl (pun intended) he said his house stank of fish and said dont offer me any more to eat!!, I still have a smirk on my face when I remember his moaning. mind you I have'nt shot any more comorants but I used to shoot a few Canadian geese

The HW is revered because of its swept capacity, although the 97 and other types run it very close due to their very short transfer ports making it very easy to obtain FAC power levells.
-
No need to have the barrel re screwcut simply shorten the barrel from the breech end! as noted by Rimfireboy you will lose velocity by shortening the barrel, the problem you have then is its allmost impossible for the average owner to adjust the power up by the fact that the transfer port screws are hidden by two steel ball bearings that are pressed into the holes covering the adjustment screws, Good luck!.

Hey Matt, What price are they fetching in London? I have looked at some of the ads and a lot of shops are asking £450. I paid £400. for mine and I read somebody got one for £375 back in August!, I think after Xmas the prices will probally start rising. If you can get one for £400, snap it up

Not rude, I posted my concerns about possible life span of the R8 magazine, you responded asking if I was talking about the mag? or the operating mechanism?? Your next post asked about what moderator I use? whats that got to do about the R8 I havent the faintest idea. anyway MERRY XMAS to the members on here. :bye:

The gun is sound. people on here making comments about (How bad? How good is it?) should not be making such comments unless they have purchased/ or actually shot the rifle. I have purchased the said rifle and given my truthfull comments about owning the said rifle, and should accept or refute my/our comments about it I am thinking that sometimes we should perhaps, realise that young shooters dont grasp what we, who have owned such air rifles are trying to give realistic feedback to other forum members. This is my last post on this subject.

Its got a HW on it at the moment, some of the gun shops on Gun Star advertise the gun as having a moderator fitted but its not, it has a barrel weight on it, its supposed to be good for 180 shots Its still on its first fill and I have shot less than 100 shots through it so far.

Remember I said "It Might fail" I was refering to the magazine itself if you examine a R8 mag the indexing projections dont seem very substantial to my tired old eyes, I once had some years ago a Umerex winchester CO2 powered rifle and the mags on that often faild because the indexing on the mags used to break. Only time will tell if the mags for the R8 will stand the indexing of thousands of shots. I am very pleased with the rifle and perhaps I being too critical theres nout wrong with the engineering of the rest of the gun.

The best way and fastest way is to do it on a lathe, But in the USA you can purchase a "Recrowning tool" which you can buy to do the job by hand. The tool comes in several sizes of barrel diameter as long as you quote the correct size of your barrel then its only a couple of minutes to complete. I have the companies name who make them somewhere, I will have a look through the paperwork and try to give you the details. I have just fetched up the info that I had at the time the company is Brownells .com in the USA go on to their site and see if they still sell them.

No,it is a very well made rifle, Perhaps because of the weight I can shoot it freestanding better than my AA 400 Carbine, the only question I have is that there might possibly be a problem after heavy use with the magazine because the indexing rack molded into the mag seems fragile. It might, after thousands of shots fail, I am only surmising that could happen, only time will tell. for the money it is a very good rifle, Cheers.

I have a new Rotex R8 in .22 I have shot it for just over a month now and its a brilliant gun, Bit too heavy for me to stagger around the farm buildings but its very accurate, Just over 8lbs unscoped, cycling the mag is stiffer than expected, has a resetable safety, the plastic trigger blade is not new, the FWB Sport mk 2 had them and had no trouble. removing the stock shows it could have been lighter. the anti tamper seems almost tamper proof, access to the transfer port adjustment is foiled by both access points protected by two steel bearings which have been pressed in to the recest access ho

Both are superb, but if you want a rifle that is extremely easy to strip/tune, then the AA410 is much simpler to work on in fact if you like the thought of a side lever cocking action then have a look at the AA 510 model another advantage of the AA rifles is the weight, believe me, there is no joy in toting a heavy gun around.

Take your rifle to the fishing and gun shop in Market Street, Wellington. they do gun repairs there. -

Sounds like you have overtightened the valve closure spring which is inside the brass chamber, unscrew it completely then screw it back in three complete turns only , refill the gun and compare (before and after) then reset power by adjusting the transfer port screw. -
