  1. There's a big difference between internet acronyms like FFS and text talk. I'd rather read a normal sentence with the odd LOL and FFS than "Me mate wnt 2 mkt ls nite bt cnt pik frt up til 2moz" or some such shite. I'm sure no text talk DOESNT mean you have to start writing out "I'm laughing" or "This statement was meant to convey humour" rather than LOL Just use your brains and stop talking like a 12 year old p***y chav and I'm sure it'll be fine
  2. Alright Gnipper? Congrats mate I've just gotta be nice to the mrs for a few days and get a cub sorted, and I'll be having a couple off ya hopefully I'm pretty sure she said "Please, no more animals!" after the new pup. And the python. And the mice. And the chicken. But that's gone now so I'm sure I'm only making up numbers by getting more ferrets? Who am I kidding? Let's be honest. She's gonna kill me LOL
  3. What about a nice Peugeot 405 diesel estate? I love 'em. You can get a low mileage (50,000) one owner FSH jobbie with full electric pack, or no electrics (depending on whether you think they're a pain to fix or not) great engines on em, bullet proof, for about £500 for a good en. Astras are ok, I've owned em in the past. But they aren't as good on the mechanicals as the Pugs, and the Vauxhall lump (as opposed to the Isuzu diesel they sometimes use) doesn't like the old biodiesel half as much as the pug engine does Them pugs do quarter of a million miles no probs, and never seem to
  4. Alright lads, I was in the vets a bit back for a checkup with the pup, and ended up sitting next to some young bird with a large overweight (almost obese) Rottie bitch. The dog spent the whole time gasping for breath and had only waddled into the waiting room on a cool day On a body condition score this dog was a 4 out of 5. Rolls of fat, no visible waist line, sagging stomach, certainly no definition at all. Out comes the vet (some young graduate looking woman) who with an air of self importance pulled the reluctant fatty onto the scales. After consulting one of those "Body
  5. Nobody can say how this works, probably because it doesn't? Sulphur chemically has nothing to offer a dog, and isn't all that reactive or soluble in water to get inside the dog in the first place (unless you count the slight acidification of water after prolonged contact with sulphur?). Nothing against it as it doesn't seem to do any harm by any means, and it's cheap as chips. But I've never been able to find a single incidence of someone describing HOW it works, or why. The only references to it are from old alchemy or homeopathy texts. Not one to stay fixed in outlook or opinio
  6. Grass goes in one end and out the other, unchanged. I don't personally see how they get any kind of vitamins/minerals from that at all. It's an accepted fact (even by the pet food manufacturers) that dogs require ZERO carbs in their diet, and any biologist or wolf ecologist will tell you wolves (of which dogs are a direct sub species) don't eat herbivorous material as a general part of the diet. But, it's such an insignificant point in relation to the poster's original question I'll leave it lie from there. For this thread anyway  Here's my 16 week old Sealyham x Russell
  7. Socks you're right about the cooking process being bad, more power to ya... only one thing to mention... Wild dogs = wolves. The wolf is Canis lupis, and the dog is Canis lupis familiaris.... Wolves do NOT eat the stomach contents of prey in the wild. Period. Another nice little myth for all those sites selling "Barf" (vomit shit) made of mashed up veggies. Check out some of the world authorities on wolves and you'll clearly see over and over they say having watched many thousands of wolf kills they NEVER eat the stomach contents. Meat, bones, hide, hair and sinew only (oh and
  8. Sorry mate, but that's not exactly right. A human isn't a carnivore therefore his diet is based around a variety of fruits, vegetables, and animal proteins. We aren't MEANT to be eating whole animals, you're right. But for dogs, not only do they not use carbs as their "main energy source" or as "petrol" but actually the reverse is true. A dog's main energy source is FATS, and they have absolutely ZERO requirement for carbs in the diet at all. I'm sorry my friend, and I'm certainly not starting a ruckus, I'm just pointing out where you might want to read up a bit. Cooking does not
  9. Bit of bacon and/or chocolate does the job as well. You'll find a good few of them manage to take the bait, spring the trap, and bugger off tho'
  10. I agree with Simoman Well done for deciding to switch to raw, you won't regret it The only thing I'd mention is that you really don't need to cook the food. First, cooked chicken bones are really dangerous - they splinter badly. Every time you hear someone say "Oh you can't feed your dog bones!" they're actually referring to COOKED bones (even if they don't know it yet lol)... Raw bones are a natural food for dogs. The gravy and all that other stuff you cooked isn't gonna offer anything except flavour. In one end and out the other mate  Not knocking you, I'm applaudin
  11. Just a quick note. Dogs don't actually require any form of vegetable intake in their diet. They are carnivores (Canis lupus familiaris = carnivore), and veggies will go in one end and out the other. Just stick to whole carcases, raw meaty bones, offal etc And another thing. Blending/grinding food makes for tartar formation, gum disease, periodontal disease and eventually various systemic illnesses and death. Dogs need to tear and chew on large chunks of meat and bone to massage the gingiva and teeth (they brush and floss as they eat, as one guy puts it). Soggy wet food from th
  12. Whole raw carcases are the best, and most natural, diet for a dog. Always has been, always will be. If you're on about looking it up on the net stay away from BARF sites (BARF = Billinghurst's lot). Get onto some raw feeder sites instead. "BARF" nowadays means 66% fruit, veg, nuts, seeds and herbs, and "some" ground meat and bone... WTF?! LOL Dogs are carnivores, and do not need vegetable matter or carbohydrates of any kind. Stick to fresh raw food and you're laughing. If you can't get whole carcases in an amount to constitute 100% of the diet, raw meaty bones (emphasis on the
  13. Alright mate? This isn't an advert - merely an answer to your question: My mate has some great russells, but it depends what your cup of tea is? They're not 10" show dogs... one bitch went 14" at the shoulder and won a great many championships around the UK as well as spending nigh on every weekend down to hard graft for the 11 years of her working life. She died last week after a three hour dig in a hard place. He still has her daughter and some other relations of that bitch, and they're all down mostly from Gould/Jones stock. He doesn't breed much, but when he does they're wor
  14. I've seen a couple of decent black dogs at work but for what we do its russells all the way I just picked up a Sealyham x Russell from a hunt in Welshpool out of good hard working dogs. Will post pics and an update when she's entered.
  15. Three be two be two? I put large bulls in kennels that big LOL The smaller the better to keep in body heat - so long as the dog can creep in and curl up, sorted. The "pop hole" is better off on the "long side" of the kennel, to one end. That way wind can't blow through the kennel one end to the other like it will in a pet shop style kennel Failing all that, plastic barrels (the type used for storing grain or oil are good) laid on their sides in wooden cradles work well and keep the little tykes warm. Just some thoughts. Lee
  16. Alright matey? Glad to hear she's doing well for you - only thing is all I can see instead of pics is "code" Can you email em over to me so I can see how she turned out please? Cheers for the mention on the training - I reckon you only get out what you put into a young dog (tho' not to say blood doesn't play its part!!)... glad it paid off for you Give us a bell some time and we'll go out, Cheers Lee
  17. Whey hey, raw food heaven... I just picked up ten whole herrings (complete with guts, heads etc) for just 34p for the lot in Tesco It always pays to hand about at the end of the day or closing time for raw food bargains... you do get strange looks asking for ten whole fish though ("Greedy b@$tard" ) :11:
  18. I've always fed pups the same as the adults; with an emphasis on chicken wings and rib racks (aside from the whole carcases which I feel are almost essential for teaching a young dog what real food is and what to do with it). It's so important to give pups something decent to chew on whilst their decidious and later permanent teeth are coming through. If they can't adequately massage the gums and "pull" the teeth out in a timely manner whilst tearing meat off the bone, then a pretty firm base is laid for life-long periodontal disease and related systemic damage and wear.

    fuel

Yeah, same kind of story here. People have queued for miles (literally) to get to a dry garage (by the time they hit the front of the line)... Stewards working on most forecourts, especially the larger chains and supermarkets. On the other hand, I hardly knew there WAS a fuel crisis (read: "Self inflicted shortage due to panic buying in case there's a shortage = self fulfilling prophecy!). I have a full tank - 15.5 gallons/70 litres - of biodiesel and plenty more where that came from at 80p a litre Who needs queues?! Suckers

    4X4

I hear good things about the Daihatsu Fourtrak for what you're after - I wouldn't say no to one myself. Under a grand if you look around. 2.8 V6 engine tho so I don't know about fuel economy. I run my Pug 405 estate on biodiesel (the "veggie oil mix"), but 43p a litre?! That's not much over cost price if you count the 27.1p per litre fuel tax (that is paid in the price, right?)... I'm paying 80p a litre for biodiesel at the mo, tho I'm about to set up as a producer/retailer in the coming months. If you can tell me where to buy the stuff at 43p a litre I'm there! Is it transest
  21. This is a new one on me. Found my little (just over 3mths?) ferret gill couldn't stand properly the other day. She was a bit thin (seemed to drop off overnight) and was struggling to stand, then hobbling along like she was on stilts. Hard to describe, but that's the closest I can get. Stiff rear legs, wobbling gait and legs out far apart to try to keep her balance. She kept rolling over and "ticking", though seemed bright enough mentally. She didn't want food but lapped milk up out of my hand well enough. The morning after, she couldn't even get off her back, just kept rolling a
  22. Bloody hell mate, I'm gutted to hear about that pup So sorry, RIP and good times on the Hunting Ground for the poor gyp. Take it easy mate, we've all been there and it sucks :friends:
  23. My ferrets must just be greedy - they don't leave a thing lol That said I did find a jaw bone last night, with a couple of teeth in it. They usually eat the lot though, bar a bit of fluff.
  24. No mate, Rags and Nelly. Flint got removed from the gene pool so to speak... I made a mistake above, about the placings. Rags got 4th (!!) in the Russel class, it was Tag (male) who got reserve and Nelly got the championship. Usually its Rags getting the championships, with the amount of graft she's seen. But hey ho, he couldn't lose either way with best dog and best bitch :11:
  25. That was a cracking day out, one of the nicest shows I've been to this year Me and my mate showed the terriers and got champion and reserve champion russel Oddly enough, the bitch who has dug hard every weekend of her 10 year life got reserve, and the little mutt who's only seen two got champion :11: If I'd known folks off here was going I'd have rooted you all out :friends:
