looking for bloke my dad used work with/hunt
Matt3699 replied to the big chief's topic in General Talk
Is your name John? -
I feel for you mate... and I hate to sound like an asshole, but this is like the third or forth topic you have made in the last couple of days looking for permission. You really aren't going to get much luck from this site. Go and visit some farmers and tell them you are looking for some ferreting permission and then go from there and see if they will let you on with the lamp.

Sounds like a guy I met last year. He responded to my advert looking for a Saluki Greyhound. Said he had some good pups. Went round his house and the Dam was a beddy whippet. I told him I wasn't looking for a whippet type and he tried to convince me she had saluki in her and the sire was a coursing dog. I took one look at his Jack russell running around his yard humping everything that moved ( and didn't move ) and I got the f**k out of there. Pup looked like a rat too... no resemblance to a saluki at all.
-
In all seriousness though... How do you know who the sire is? If the men that sold you the dog supposedly didn't even know she was pregnant? And how long before she had the pups did you have her? She might be from proven parents which is all well and good ( this doesn't guarantee the pups will be good though) but it wont help you if the sire was a donkey.

The aftershave? I wondered why my mate always wore that stuff.
-
I wonder how many people would be able to put a .22 in the head with the animal hopping all over the place though.. Would take a good shot. Maybe that is why they had to snare it.

That is exactly what I was thinking. Unless it's some kind of UV protection ink, I can't see it protecting the skin from cancer
-
Why? It was when I lived in Ireland and was preban anyway... It wasn't nice seeing her get a good bite. But it was the only one she got

My old bitch was entered at around 13 months doubled up. Potatoes!
-
I was always told a badger had a bigger set and more earth built up around the entrance. That won't help you if you find one in a fox den though... Lol
-
Good result that. Nice one.

Did he get any piercings?

4 for the price of one. Bargin .

And in fairness ferreting has got to be the easiest permission to get. At least it is around my way.

True. I was just thinking if they didn't take the shot at that moment then the dog could have gone off and mauled someone and then the officer would be to blame. It's one of those things that could get you arguing all night. I still think they should of tasered it though ( providing the circumstances gave them enough of an opportunity to do it ) But it's not something I would like to continue to discuss or argue This video is renowned for causing arguments on internet forums.
-
Have you seen the split second it took him to draw his gun and fire. I dont think there was that much time to think about and fire taser, which i am guessing is far less accurate! Have you seen the split second it took him to draw his gun and fire. I dont think there was that much time to think about and fire taser, which i am guessing is far less accurate! Yeah I did. But we also don't know the amount of time the police were there before this incident. From the start of the video you can see that the dog is barking and showing signs of aggression standing over it's owner. Surely

My thoughts too. if you're a big enough man to pull the trigger the first time at least pull it again to stop the suffering. Although it did say this in the description of the video.... the pit bull shot in the head by police in the East Village Monday, is now in critical but stable condition,a animal control officials said. Animal Care & Control was caring for the wounded pit bull, but an agency spokesman refused Tuesday to further describe Stable condition.

I have no idea how you would deal with a lynx or something similar in that situation. A gun would ruin the chance of selling fur and f**k getting close enough to stick a knife in. I don't know. But I agree that it's been hyped up for entertainment. It's made by the discovery channel, which has gone to shit along with the history channel.
-
Seen this before. I think it was excessive force. Having said that, it looks like a pit type dog and was running towards the officer... Maybe a tazer would of been more appropriate. If the owner was having a seizure you can't blame his dog for wanting to protect him. If he was just drunk then I blame the owner. Seems like the police handled the situation poorly.
-
It looks interesting alright. Anyone got a good link to watch it? Check out the comments on that YouTube video too Not saying I agree with hunting endangered species. But when you are living in those conditions you gotta do what you gotta do. I'm sure killing the odd lynx is nothing compared to the damage us lot in the advanced world are doing to the environment with our pollution and all the rest. I'm going to go and live with them.
-
What the actual f**k???? Who does that in a in public place? And why would you just stand there looking at it. My computer doesn't have speakers so not sure if the owner was trying to stop the dog doing this or encouraging it. The description says it was an accident... But I'm not so sure.

"I'm looking at getting ferrets BUT..."
Matt3699 replied to Bunny Boiler's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
It sounds like a good idea to me. I grew up lamping and coursing and never really had any experience with ferrets. I'm now in an area where ferrets would be a handy thing to work. But I have never worked them. There is a heap of information on this site alone that I am reading through.... but it would be handy to have it all in one place.
