Is this the pups pedigree or his dam?
-
that depends if your breeding for yourself or other people. I personally never let a bitch rear more than maximum of five. Its better for her and the pups. 3 or 4 is better imo. how do you pick them at that age, colour?the 3 or 4 strongest looking?or do you have a crystal ball If you do it in the nest you will never know. And they change a lot from 8 weeks aswell so whats the point trying to pick them. What you dont see you cant miss.

Not trying to ruin your thread but I cant understand how people are happy to sell there pups to people they dont really trust. If I sell a pup I want to know whos having it and where he lives, and I tell them to come on there own if I dont know them. Sometimes a good idea to meet in a carpark where you can get a good luck at them first.

That sounds about right. You cannot wish for a better dog. And if you give them a chance they also have a good brain. -
Charlie Catch Dog Or Dispatch Dog?
jeemes replied to Chris Parsons's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
She only had a few by herself.... would stay on it a bit longer but I would dispatch it myself If you had time to help her she must of held on long enough. Foxes are not that easy to kill.....but wait a minute and you will get the little lurcher brigade on saying its all about "the knack". -
Are you no getting a wee bit confused mate? What most folk have said IS. . . . . they they have had pups from him, or out of his dogs and they have proved very good workers in the field, time after time. That speaks for itself to me. People do not 'arselick' him as a great worker of dogs. . . . . they 'arselick' him (as you so charmingly put it) as a producer of great working whippets. Nothing more. Whether he works his dogs or not, whether he worked Sooty Sam or not (funnily enough the dog retired after a working accident I believe). . . . . those dogs produce workers.. . . .

2 pups reared together do better ..fact I agree. Pups together have always got someone to play with and learn to gallop. Greyhound rearers rear whole litters together. The competition toughens them up. I can't think of anything less appealing than attempting to rear and train two lurcher pups whether out of the same litter or not...greyhound men may well rear whole litters together...but what's expected of them??? Not a lot really...just have to run as fast as they can after a mechanical hare...they don'y need recall, they don't teach 'em to sit, stay, lie down...or to jump, or to

did he have much work in his first season?

I think you mean type.If Im wrong please say. I prefer the half cross type of Bull/Greyhound because they perform the way I like and they dont break as easy as the 3/4 type. We have a bitch that is a 3/4 bred dog on paper but who is a 1/2 cross in type. It depends on the quarry you want to pursue the most. The best way to fine tune is to breed from roughly the type you like and then in time select the best for you. For communication sake I understand what someone is trying to put over when they give me a fraction. So it does serve a purpose in Lurcher discussion to mention fractions as long has

That's true of all bull x's. To be honest they could do with a bit of coat adding to them to remove their tissue paper skin. If you were to remove around 100% of the bull from the cross and add plenty of deerhound then you'd get a decent coat. You'd also get better feet, more stamina and loads more speed. My dogs have thick hides and great feet with thick heavy duty pads. They are just Bull/greyhound. They also have plenty of stamina and so they should have when you consider what a pit bull has to endure to complete a proper keep and then fight for hours sometimes. Thats why half bull is

i have lost track of the amount of bull/grey xs that make it look hard work or wont do them unless they have back up-yet ive seen the 21/23 tts whippet/grey/sal swim the river and drop them for fun-infact smash anything with teeth-my mate had a coll/whip/grey dog 22 tts that would also smash anything that wanted a fight-some of the best dogs with the biggest heart are the little uns imo.atb There may be poor Bullxs about but a good Bullx is hard to beat. Imo it needs to be a half and half type. They are calm, clever with lots of stamina and totally immune to pain. Ive had diffrent crosses
