Whitser, I'd say that the "Fur, Feather and Fin" book on the Partridge will be the most valuable, though don't get too excited. I've seen them go for about £25-£30 in good-good+ condition, for a first edition. The one you have looks like it would pass as a good or a reading copy only. The other two books look in poor condition and don't ring any bells with me as being collectors items or sought after. I'm sure similar copies could be picked up in better condition for a tenner or so.

Levs, I have the test to hand and the Borneos are not listed simply because they are the equivilent to the Burmas except they have no Gortex lining, so the difference is negligible but the quality the same.

Jasper, the Meindl Burma Pro MFS finished 5th in "Trail" walking magazine reviews in April this year. The reviewer admitted that "there's nothing really wrong here", meaning that no fault could be found, so why they ranked them only 5th best is beyond me. The price you paid was a good one. The Meindl Borneo Pro MFS don't have the gortex lining but are of just the same excellent quality. I've an oldish pair of leather Scarpa walking boots in the shed that'll be climbing a fell tomorrow and they've done me well over the years. I don't know why more fieldsports guys don't look towards the walking

Not everything runs smoothly with PayPal. I've just been in a minor dispute with them over something I bought. The money was taken out straight away and transferred...but to where? It never arrived at the shop I was dealing with. Talk about being frustrated. It's really tough when there's no one to speak to, you're only in touch through emails, and you're waiting for a reply...and waiting...and waiting, that's the maddening thing and it's stressfull! Eventually, I was told that PayPal and the shop had "a wrong link", whatever that means . Never had any trouble before this latest incident thou

Sorry I can't be of help SJM, and going slightly off topic, but I read last weeks copy of the CMW today in the newsagents and noticed that there was a litter of Borders going for £500 a piece. And they hunt fur AND feather. While not in the HPR league or even bog standard retriever/spaniel league (brains), these pups are fetching all that dosh, while any of the latter mentioned are going for less. Is it the pedigree people are paying for or the working ability?

Well, that's those sorted out and the "review" section has done its job once again . Sorry to hear that Maty, the ones I got from Chelford farm supplies are the plastic type and have been ok. I very rarely wear them these days, they just sit in the back of the car for emergencies. They're unbreathable and suffer with moisture but I got a hole punch into them down the inside of the leg and that's cured it. I now wear the pull on Sprayaway gortex type for out on the tops. They sit nicely in a bag that fastens to your belt. Sorry I couldn't offer any help Grover

You need something like these "chaps" http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WAX-LEGGINGS-STUD-ON...1QQcmdZViewItem . I can't vouch for their claims that they're waterproof, but these can be cut down to suit the leg. It's a shite photo, they normally look and fit better than that, they're are too low. Alternatively, any good farm shop will sell the plastic equivilent, which are ok.

I've also got a good Aigle Polombe jacket that's excellent. A couple of mates had the Deerhunter stuff and they've binned them. It looks pretty and sounds good but doesn't do the business in hard weather. -

Like Maty says, the two nuts on the deraileur are for fine tuning. Try and get the rear wheel off the ground and crank it round by the pedals, as you do, turn either of the screws. It'll become obvious which one you should be turning after a short while. As you turn the screw you will be able to hear and see the chain sitting onto the right cog. If the bike has two (or three) chainwheels on the front, ditto with that changer too.

The fact is that between these two Utd won the war (winning the title) but lost this particular battle. It was a crap game, and all that won it was one good move. Giggs wants putting out to grass, Ronaldo never turned up whilst Rooney ran himself into the ground for nowt. Somebody like Kaka from AC Milan always turns up for the big games, he doesn't hide away, and that's what Utd needed. From a cynical point of view, no matter what happened, those players on the pitch won't have to scrimp and save for their annual holiday, or to provide a decent christmas for their family. Very well put by Simon Hart. Just watching the television at the moment and everyone's falling over themselves to pat B-liar on the back, but, as is normal in this country, after a day or two reality will hit home and once we start to look at his legacy, the shambles he's created will be highlighted.
