They carry the crypto decease, shit everywhere, are aggressive and eat large amounts of grass intended for my farmers sheep. Sometimes there's over a hundred or more grazing on the fields near to me. The farmers won't tolerate them round here, hence the governments sensible move to all year round control. I've been doing them for years, either shooting or at the time, under license, pricking the eggs. In my eyes and those of my farmers, they are a serious pest. Each to their own.

You say that a couple of places have no cover etc...ask the landowner if you can plant your own. If you get the nod, get to work and lay your own cover. There's plenty of places selling quick growing cover, like Kale, Maize, Millet etc. It's great fun being able to get your own shoot up and running and gives you added responsability. You'll learn a fair bit too. Good luck.

I've recently picked up a copy of an interview (on CD) given by an old Anthony Chapman, ex-huntsman of the Coniston F.H. He says that on many occasions when he was a kid most of the class would run out of school if they heard the hunt approaching, to follow hounds....and the teacher would go too as he was a keen follower! -
Feckin' hell Stabs, talk about leaving it to the last minute! Like has been said, lots of fluid, little and often...Food? Start carbo loading NOW, that is pasta, spuds, bananas and wholemeal bread etc. Light meal the night before and a stonking breakfast of muesli and honey on toast a couple of hours before. On the run, jelly babies are good for a quick fix, as are jaffa cakes, a handful of raisins, bananas again and after the run, take a good milkshake or some beef jerky (packed with protein) to help repair muscles etc. Failing that, take a bible with you and money for a taxi! Feckin' hell, who'd want to be a kid these days...not me . I can remenber when my school report had a section on it called "Rural Studies" and although I was pretty good with a football and at P.E. "Rural Studies" was my thing. Academically speaking, I was a waste of time, but "Rural Studies"....ahh, those were the days. Those of us that prefered the outdoors used to conduct nature walks for the rest of the class because our teacher knew feck all and she admitted it. We used to have an "Interesting Table" at the back of the class and come monday morning it used to be full of old birds nests, -
I've been telling people about these kind of places for ages now. I do one on a Pennine route and have had some good tallys. The truckers and day trippers sit there flinging out their grub and if you just watch, you'll see Mr Rattus take the food. Inner city or industrial estate burger pitches are the same.

Ricky, there are strict guidelines from DEFRA concerning the shooting of Cormorants. I'm a named shooter on a couple of waters that have trouble with Cormorants. It goes something like this...Contact DEFRA with your complaint, seeking advice. And then something like the following will happen. The person/club having trouble with Cormorants must show their loses, fish and financial wise. They must show when and how many birds are arriving, who will be shooting, (up to six named I think according to DEFRA) etc. It goes on and on. Nice one SportingShooter06. We've had the squirrels on the bird feeders this week outside work and I bagged five with five shots from the TX200. Dropped like sacks of shit . I left a couple behind a wall on wednesday night and they were gone in the morning, so I told the local farmer that it's more than likely charlie boy. Doing the dreys soon.

Hopefully he put it in his pocket Byron and took it home. If he didn't the fecker wants lessons in countryside etiquette. I've never seen that myself, someone knocking a can back while actually out shooting. It's almost as bad as drink driving, what with the dangers of having a loaded gun etc.
