  2. I think my Hornet is turning out to be my most accurate rifle. A few weeks ago I bought some H&N 45gr bullets which were cheap as chips at £52 per 1,000. Had them a while because I needed a Lee Case Neck Expanding Die which arrived last week. Wasn't expecting much from them due to being so cheap. Bought some S&B brass a while back too. Only seemed to have a small case capacity and didn't get on well with my usual Lil Gun and 40gr V-Max bullets so I chucked them to one side. I had some H110 kicking around too, which I hadn't touched since developing a good load with Lil Gun.
  3. From the shooting that me and a mate have done with 22H and 17H, we kind of agreed that my 22H would have more smack sub 200 yards on the foxes. You really need another calibre for foxes past that i.e. 223/243. Varminting wise, my 22H using 40gr V-Max @ 3,000fps will keep up with his 17H all day long out to 300+ yards. I've dropped rabbits at over 300 yards, out to 405 yards (on film) with the 22H in good conditions. Both calibres are limited in the wind, but in my experience neither are "better" than the other. I wouldn't trade my CZ527 22H for a 17H. It's probably more accurate than my
  4. Can't remember to be honest, I just go off whatever Strelock Pro tells me. Quick rangefind and wind measurement and I'm away. The Hornet doesn't take any prisoners, though..

  6. Volume rabbit control and very occasional fox, either 22LR or 17HMR. 50/50 I'd go for a 17H or a 22H like I have. Its good fun playing with the 22H, especially at longer ranges. I've had a couple of rabbits recently at over 300 yards and one at 402! Certainly fox capable, chest or head, inside 200 yards.
  7. what scope you got on it Elliot, ???? Jodrell bank! I'm embarrassed to say, but I had to look that up!
  8. what scope you got on it Elliot, ???? I'm using a Falcon Menace M18. Not had the time long, but it seems to be doing the trick
  9. Dropped another two rabbits today, 315 yards and a nice 402 yard headshot. 3.5MRAD and 0.8 MRAD for the 3mph 90 degree wind. The 40gr V-Max are doing me proud.
  10. Really starting to put some serious trigger time into my CZ527 22 Hornet and what a beauty of a calibre it really is. I'm kicking myself for not putting more time in with it over the last 12 months since a bought it and what a fantastic little vermin calibre it is, too. I've put in the range time with my pet load using 40gr V-Max, 12.5gr of Lil Gun, CCI primers and Winchester brass. Validated the trajectory today at 250 yards and clover leafed the three shots. Just as I'd finished my calculations a rabbit popped out at 340 yards.. 2.4MRAD of elevation adjustment was needed o
  11. It's closed. It's all bullshit to be honest. If you're safe enough to own a centrefire, you should be safe enough to decide where to shoot it
  12. It's a Viper PST 6-24x50. Great scope for long-range varminting
  13. £1 if you're buying factory ammo and about half that if you're reloading, as I am. Buying in bulk helps keep the cost down.
  14. Thanks David, it's only a bit if practice and knowing the data. Nowt that special. I'm using Strelock Pro which holds all my ballistic data. Combined with a rangefinder and wind meter. Keep the app open on your phone, range the target, check the wind, dial your adjustments and take the shot. Sounds more long-winded than it actually is. You'll do it all in under a minute. Wind is the only realistic variable to consider. Today it was pretty consistant.
  15. Nipped out for an our this afternoon and managed to get a couple of shots off. Gutted about the first shot. I struggled to get an accurate range of the crow in the open field. Using home loaded 53gr V-Max. Lovely little round.
  16. If you have a pair of digital calipers you should be able to fudge something. Then again, you might not be too interested if it's shooting well already! If you were curious and have a pair of digital calipers you'll be able to fudge something. In the past, I have expanded a case mouth and pushed a bullet in with my fingers, just so that it holds it in place. Load it and when the bullet touches the lands it'll be pushed into the case. Eject it and measure. That'll tell you the OAL to the lands. Mine shoots best at 2.290" which the 5thou off touching the lands.
  17. I'm using Strelock Pro to provide the ballistic solution and a basic anemometer to gauge the wind speed
  18. I'd probably risk it walshie providing you're not running max loads you should be OK. It's your call though. Have you measured the OAL of the bullets when they touch the lands? I usually find that accuracy improves the closer I get, usually around 10 thou off touching the lands
  19. Nailed another one again tonight, chaps: https://youtu.be/s__SDQEg6OE
  20. You can make contact with crows at good ranges if you develop some decent, consistant loads and gauge the wind correctly. Here's how my 223 performs when I'm on form:
  21. 100 yard zero with 53gr V-Max at 3,000fps
  22. Thanks! Dialled 0.8MRADfor elevation and 0.4MRAD for a 6mph 8 O'clock wind and that was the result
  23. Managed to catch this lad in the head at 261 yards with the 223 using 53gr V-Max
