  1. Yeah it's a good calibre. Did you miss the bit where I unloaded the rifle before passing it to him?
  2. Little clip from today. Loving the new Falcon Menace M18 scope and DM80 moderator. https://youtu.be/4Wj84FTzaAg
  3. I think one of the best rimfires you can buy really is a CZ452. The one I have is an absolute tack driver. Reasonably priced too. What's not to like
  4. My Tikka T3 223 shoots really well with 53gr V-Max. I was knocking an empty can of coke round the other day at 400 yards
  5. Citric acid and washing up liquid
  6. Bought the Vortex viper myself Elliot, I use mine on a 6.5x55 excellent scope, coupled with the warranty and after sales service Vortex are fantastic value, so much so in my opinion I have just ordered another one a Vortex Crossfire ll 4-12-50 for my .222 I lost one of my turret caps after a zeroing session, I phoned Vortex and asked where I could purchase another one, they took my name and address 5 days later I received 2 new turret caps free of charge including delivery. They know how to look after customers. That's interesting. I had the same experience with the battery cap for the ill
  7. Bought a Vortex Viper post 6-24x50 EBR-1 for my 223 and I love it. You might be able to pick one up secondhand with your budget, perhaps a smidge more. Shouldn't worry you though, they come with an unconditional, transferable, lifetime guarantee
  8. What rifle? I had this with my CZ527 and ended up having to shim the rear mount
  9. Definitely Lil Gun. I've tried both in mine and Lil Gun has proven to be the best. 35 & 40gr V-Max loads prefer 12.5g. I'd give the 35gr V-Max a wide birth unless your shooting will be predominantly sub 120 yards. Upto 100 yards though, they are great. As has been said, no pressure issues, even with a full case. As a result, your brass will last longer too.
  10. Yeah it took him by surprise too. The powder used is Lil Gun. He's not running it as fast as he could either I don't think. The only problem with the 25gr bullets is that they have been hard work to get hold of. Just picked up 600 from a local RFD who ordered them from Edgar Brothers with his last shipment. Nobody else seems to have them.
  11. As you know, Ian, to get the best out of both calibres you really need to reload. Johnny uses the 25gr V-Max as they group much better on his CZ527 and they have a slightly better BC too. Think they're doing around 3,400fps with his homeloads
  12. Yeah it is with the 40gr V-Max. Touches the lands at 1.914" so still a bit of a jump. It does look odd though, in the little cases. I have a single shot sled to load the 40 gainers as they don't fit in the CZ magazine
  13. Yeah, it's definitely a typo. Should be 1.900"
  14. Dan, we were comparing and plinking with the .17 and .22 Hornets yesterday. Looking at the figures from our reloads (25gr & 40gr V-Max), the .22 Hornet has more energy at the muzzle and carries that out to 280 yards after which the 17 Hornet takes over. The .17 Hornet has a flatter trajectory but both can and should headshoot rabbits and drop foxes cleanly at 200 yards. So, sub 200 yards, the .17 Hornet drops marginally less but the 22 Hornet makes more of a mess!
  15. Nice stock too! Well done. Worth the wait. It all worked out in the end
  16. Nice one Walshie, you'll love the Hornet I'm sure. If you need any help or advice give me a shout.
  17. It's a nice calibre Dan and a good choice for NV but not any more "accurate" in my experience. Flat trajectory can be handy. I think you'd make a do with either
  18. Good luck! Reloading for the Hornet is a doddle if you decide to take it up. I'm sure any factory offering from Hornady will do well
  19. Only tried the Winchester ammo that got thrown in with the rifle, Dan. Fair to say that it was pretty average at best
  20. Just a little clip of some plinking at 180 yards with the 22 Hornet using 35gr V-Max, 12.5gr Lil Gun, CCI 400 primers and Winchester brass: Think I'm settled on the 40gr V-Max moving forward after producing this group using 12.5gr of Lil Gun. Just would've liked it to have grouped as well with more powder
  21. Had a play with some 40gr V-Max today with the Hornet using 12.5gr of Lil Gun. More accurate than my 223 at 100 yards! I imagine it'll only be doing around 2,700fps so probably only good out to 200 but to be fair that's probably a sensible limit for the 22 Hornet
  22. To get the best out of either Hornet calibre Dan, you'll have to reload. Set up costs can be pretty reasonable if you go for Lee equipment
  23. Not shot a fox with it yet but it makes short work of smaller prey. Can't imagine they'd argue with 800ft/lb of energy https://youtu.be/Zow_dv-d_Kc
