Awhile back when I used to ferret....lost My hob....6 weeks later on a christmas morning recieved a phone call from the farmer,...my hob had turned up at the farm...this farm was about 600yds from the rabbit sets I was working.....the famer said the ferret just walked in the back door...went into the down stairs toilet and made it self at home. ...the ferret was in real good condition ...despite the distance it had travelled & the rather inclement weather......needless to say I was chuffed to have the big fella back.....

use my pike rods 3lb t/c for float/bottom/lure fishing for pike....use a fixed spool on them..if just lure fishing put a shimano 7ht muliplier on 1 rod....'there just about idiot proof.. ...hence the reason i use one... '.. also use same kit when fishing for bass.....

dont ferret no more...mainly used 4' nets made from hemp which i knitted myself..had some old nylon nets....stripped rings off, reknitted an extra 6in on each end,made them a lot easier to work with... but also had smaller net about 2'6"/2'9"....never had much problem with cover....used to go well before hand and cut/remove cover from around the holes......made life a lot easier....

Some off the places i ferreted ..oft had one kill in..used to keep a few old bank/money bags in with ferrets....these would be placed inside the hole the ferret was last seen at...the bags filled with grass ..then the hole blocked up....most time upon returning to the rabbit set in the morning the ferret would be curled up fast asleep inside the said bank back...

you also may find it useful to train your dog with your own whistle( mouth)..has a few times you may come across people using the same pitch dog whistle...'this can sometimes confuse the young dog.'but only usually happens a couple of times with the young dog...then they learn to distinguish your whistle pitch amongst others of the same pitch..

tonight for the first time went to go lamping with my .243 with a scope mounted clulite lamp....with the mod on( t8)..kept getting white shading on scope...on removal of mod ..the white shading had disappeared.....believe the white shading on scope, is light reflecting back off the mod....any advice would be helpfull... cheers

fishing yesterday was slow...so cut in to pieces the used baits ..throw into loch around float bait......worked within about 15 mins..after being fishless for near 4hrs...

pike fishing today at Loch ronald...no live baiting allowed now..found it hard work to scratch out a few fish.. was such a beautiful day & place to be... a few views of Loch Ronld.....pike in landing net weighed 4lb... pike in weigh sling 7.5lb..have another fish of 5lb...all in all a good day..
