  1. its not just collie in a dog that can make them pick runs, ive seen it in some dogs that have a hard and busy working life although collie blood does have a tendency to cause it at times without heavy work loads.
  2. wow that is pricey. theres a big game dealer close to me and rumor has it that the shoots have to pay him £3000 each for him to take all there birds this season, then 25p a bird there after. which he plucks and dresses then sends abroad by all accounts. for some reason he keeps going bust for some reason. so this year is why there is a charge for him to take birds from shoots. rumor also has it that he takes birds from a 100 shoots. thats why all the other game dealers/butchers are taking them for free round here.
  3. thats the thing. if a shoot has to start putting birds in a hole in the ground then the jobs just about f****d imo. theres ove a 100,000 birds put down here on 2 shoots alone and there are many other smaller shoots in the area also. thats alot of birds to find homes for once they are shot. i am fully aware that there is only a small percentage actually shot but even so with the smaller shoots killing a few thousand each it soon adds up. 2300 at roughly £40 ahead inc vat is alot of wonga.
  4. thats the one. i aint the brightest when it comes to computers.
  5. walshie do you know if ian has done away with the other subforum or is it just teething problems with the new set up. bird put a post up of 43 rabbits we had a couple of weeks ago and i cant find it. i did want to show someone the post.
  6. its not just the mods theres alot of bitching goes on at times, mostly by lads that dont make genuine hunting posts there selves. its a shame really as there is alot of decent folk gone. sad really
  7. theres this one for general dog chat then theres the other half which is for posts about hunting trips out only. the posts have to be approved by a mod before they go on.
  8. at a guess i would say the sheer amount of shoots that are about these days has flooded the market a little.
  9. i was told by a couple of trustworthy lads i know who practically live in there boots that haix were the best about 2 seasons ago. theses lads do alot of terrier work aswell as alot of walking so there boots are well tested all round.
  10. i think you will be lucky to get any coin for your birds. i think the dealers round here are paying nowt for the birds as the shoots are just glad to have a home for them.

  16. thats not you in the vid then is it mackem
  17. theres something in the back of my mind telling me ive got the paperwork for the fence here somwhere. i wrote both myself and the neighbour a copy of a brocken down bill and payment plan. ive just got to find it
  18. the chance of that is zero i would say. they have had a installment plan they couldnt stick to. i didnt think £40 a month was much to ask for off 2 people working but obvously it was. other than the fence they are bloody good neighbours
  19. its a council property and i am only moving us i need to up size. i thought about legal shit but imo i own most of the fence and will put some sheep wire in its place as a good will gesture. its 15 pannels long lol
  20. 3 years ago i moved into the house i currently live in. there was a hedge between me and the neighbours which they wanted removing and a fence put up. as they didnt have enough money to pay for it there selves i agreed to go halves on it as it would help keep my dogs in aswell as tidy the place up generally. after lots of disscusson and being the good neighbour i am i brought some fencing, hired a digger to pull the hedge out, and got someone in to do the fence for us, to save money i just got a tradesman at mates rates and i done the labouring. cut a long story short i let my neighbou
  21. true some will run all night Trev. but as the lad is only 13 i cant imagine him doing big shifts lamping for a few year yet thats why i put the odd hour.
  22. if your after a nice little dog personally i would go for a whippet over a beddy/whippet for the lads first dog, as beddy can be bloody head strong and may be a little hard work for the first time round. imo a whippet would be just that little easier to live with training wise. a good marking dog is worth its weight in gold to a ferreter. whippets are far underated and can stand more than you think work wise. if the boy decides to try his hand at lamping in the near future then he can have plenty of fun with the odd hour out here and there with a whippet also. one of the best runs i ever s
