  2. some times alan a dog will run better on his own have seen dogs that both can turn well on their own yet when doubled up same dogs go wide i would not be surprised if its a jealous thing with both dogs trying to out run each other when i used to hare course my mate had a first class single handed dog once or twice he was doubled up with a young dog when he was a bit old and would just sit behind the younger dog and then pick up after the turn was not fair on the hare. i have never seen fox lurchers do this but would not be surprised if it happens some time mack

  12. you maybe old rio but still have your wit i first got a lurcher or lurcher cross when about 5 never hunted it was a pet. got another then when twelve and after a being frog and newt mad from eight decided to try hunting this lurcher have always had on since. thirty seven now so twenty five years with them now. been a pleasure most of the time mack
  13. there is a fair few lurcher lines in ireland which used some pure weatons a long time ago which are still in the blood of lurchers. to me weaton is just one ingredient in making the lurcher that suits me its like looking for a good saluki stud dog yet there are so many line bred saluki lurchers. fewer and fewer genuine working weatons around theses days but still a few a really good one is a pleasure mack

  16. good topic kev alot depends on age of the dog on its first season and if he gets away with getting stick when working some times i think 4 or 5 would be enough if he is getting it hard but a sounder mixer type over double that would be ok seen more terriers last when they where given plenty of time to heal in first season interesting to see other peoples views mack
  17. adam was not going to reply as some had given you sound advice its a well known fact that if you break your dog to sheep and then hunt deer some times your stock breaking to sheep again. another point is when you break your dog to live stock and is 100% does not mean your dogs likes another dog to even walk in their direction.especially if its a strange dog. and if he is the jelous type like in some terrier crosses he will want the sheep for him self if a dog even makes eye contact with sheep he must be given a slap where i hunt fields are small and even stock broken dogs need a lead a
  18. the biggest problem i see in people having 3/4 grey and more is that no matter how good the dog is even if it is not looking too much like a grey hound and a top class worker its self when breeding comes around all you get is hairy greyhounds lets face it grey hounds are not what they once where my opinion is to keep it lurcher to lurcher from workers. if any dog caught most of what he caught up on he would be good so many lurchers have been ruined with to much grey hound mack
