  1. thegossip says he bred the best terriers in ireland
  2. Ideation, on 06 May 2011 - 03:43 PM, said: Always makes me smile when folk talk of dogs as tools. Because with any tools, you get some that value and treasure them, look after them well, and have them for life, and some that are always down b&q desperately trying to buy another cheap hammer to replace the countless ones that they either lost, broke, or were not up to the job. I think to any work man, no useful / valuable tool, is 'just a tool'. good post.
  3. if its a genuine AC bred terrier you should be on a winner. i have been lucky enough to have seen a few at work and they all have been top class and i am not easily impressed. the percentage off these dogs that work to a high standard is very very high.
  4. a very good man in the working dog scene told me to do 2 things with a well bred lurcher 1. stock break him and 2. teach him to jump and the rest will come to them. he was right.
  5. yes the greyhound that will do it regularly without batting an eyelid is a rare find.
  6. just wondering do any off ye guys line breed your lurchers. or do you just breed what you think is a good dog to good bitch and hope for the best. IMO there are alot of disapointments in this method, reason being that brothers and sisters of the dogs used may have been no good and alot of these great dogs are once offs that cant reproduce themselves because there out of nothing. just a thought
  7. nice looking dog hope he works out for ya
  8. the best lurchers i have seen have had this mix in them.
  9. it was advice hes not going to suit the job you have in mind for him. saying that i had a full staff before and he was probably the easiest to train and obedient dog ive ever had. you will need to introduce the dog to the ferret at a early age.
  10. whats going to happen when the ferret nips the leggy staff.
  11. all depends on a mans standards. ive heard great things about certain terriermen only to be in shock when ive seen how low there standards are. same goes for lurchers. i think alot of lads have never seen a good terrier IMO.
  12. the only reason the blind dog was sold in the begining was because the chap that had him was doing his leaving cert at the time or so i was told
  13. not talking about using them smashed up. just saying alot of dogs that get regular work will start to pace their foxes and there catch rate will go way down. did you ever say to yourself after a bad miss how did he miss it. i think alot off them dont want it regularly. as for to much work spewing a dog i dont believe this if hes bred right and entered correctly and treated right he should never spew.
  14. were are the strains of lurchers that will kill a couple of foxes night in night out. im not talking about big useless 1/2 crosses etc that are to slow to be any real use. im talking about athletic small dogs that can turn and have speed and gameness to kill fox after fox. ive lost count off the lurchers that i have seen that were said to be great only to be turning there heads from the sharp end after a few nights out in a row these are what i call ass munchers and i would not give them the time of day. lads im not talking about once of dogs that slaughter stuff im talking about specific stra
  15. in ireland we are only getting 1.50 euro a kilo. thats head and neck shots 1.20kg for shoulder shot and 1.00 euro kg for body shots
  16. looks a good job. were do ye lads recon is the best place to put them.
  17. i see alot of the bullxs have big chests. ive never seen a fast dog with a big chest. if they aint fast it doesent matter how game they are you wont catch warey quarry.
  18. there is a BIG difference if the quarry is educated or not.
  19. [ Ah no I have nothing against bayers and bolters and bolting 150 badgers is some going. I was just making the point that they are not hard dogs that take stick but ive no problem with them if they do a job for lads. and your right I do need to go out and get away from the feckin computer. must get on to a lad about a locator. bolting 150 badgers is some going
  20. if you think hares are hard on the lamp try them in the day. if i see hares on the lamp i wont run them its a waste imo. theres not alot around my area so its good to get a run during the day. personally i hate to see them lamped or shot.
