Charging for the shot is out of order, if I pay for a stalk I am not there to pick flowers the end result is hopefully a shot so it's seems to me like an additional tax. I would not go on a paid stalk if that was a rule Here's an idea what about a refund if the guide doesnt get you a shot? Why should you get a refund? what you dont realize your paying him for his time in taking you out ,Its a bonus if a wild animal presents itself and your in a position to take a shot all well and good. It may be that the clients makes a balls of the approach and the deer takes wind of him and becaus

Spot on as I said unless you have at least 3 to go it barely covers your time and fuel, its a non goer. Selling it or giving it to locals is a much more sensible option. if GHE paid a decent price linked with inflation then it may be worth considering. The other thing to consider is with me selling or giving it away what the GHE in are effect doing loosing potential custom both on buying in and also selling out but they dont seem to be able to see that. They probably will when its to late and find they dont have game to supply though but hey ho its their choice.

They are only worth something in my view to whoever shot them or should do. A trophy is a physical reminder of the event leading up to the final pull of the trigger and servers no other purpose. My mentor a long time ago summed it all up in a few words and those words were. Tha cant eat bone laddie Personally I like to see decent representative heads around and cull the weaker beasts until the time comes that the bigger beasts start to go back and rather than see them struggle against the more younger bucks trying to hold ground i retire them permanently with the aid of 130grain b

James I will put this quite simply, until game dealers pay a fair price to trained hunters, That is those certified by law to sign off with the correct documentation in accordance with the FSA many of us arnt prepared to deal with them. We can deal direct legally supplying hotels and other sources with the carcass as long as it is in its own skin. So if you wish to trade fine we will listen but prices paid need to cover our costs. Regards Stu

I presume thats selling to punters not buying in? Does that come with in built in Dick Turpins mask as well as a freebie Stand and deliver comes to mind

I reckon if we all boycotted the GHEs the price would go up either that or they go out of business. As i can sell it to anyone as long as its got its jacket on in relatively small quantities fortunately the GHE no longer can hold be to ransom and I can get what I consider a fair price for it without trailing out dropping it of at my expense . Until they do I shall continue operating as stated. Regards Stu

£1.18 a lb it was £1 a lb 30 year ago the Mrs works in a supermarket on the admin side and informs me on the shelves its £18.60 a kilo which works out at £8.45 lb in my book 18.60 divided by 2.2 I know we all need to make a crust but that takes the biscuit. I have no idea how much the GHEs are making out of it selling it to these outlets but as long as its got its jacket on i can sell it to anyone for what ever i like mates give me £2 a lb for there own consumption or I sometimes give it away to OAP to help them with bills etc but £1.18 Lb and having to drive 30 miles there and 3

Unfortunately my view is your better giving it away or selling it privately than to Game dealers price hasnt changed in 30 years and barely covers transportation taking it to them. Until they offer more I have no intention of selling any venison that we shoot to them. Just my opinion mind Stu

Get some Dubbin slapped on it and place them somewhere its warm the dubbin will soak in them welly some more on them, but if actually cracked and you can see daylight through them theres not a lot you can do with them especially if its around the joint of the sole or welting. -
Well Done in expanding your knowledge Andrew and well done to Sussex for taking you out. Cheers stu

Its a very emotive issue that's for sure. What the likes of Bryant and May or is that Swan Vestas dont realize is if considerable numbers of deer are present in any given area they will consume all the vegetation that's edible until they are in a situation that the environment will not sustain them and they become emancipated and ill with TB and other diseases. then die agonizing and prolonged deaths, These are individuals who openly proclaim that animals should be left to live a natural life. Until you have seen the effects of malnutrition through having a greater populous of deer on

Your most welcome to come anytime Andrew as are all the lads who have been helping on the scheme . In fact i think you will be with us again in April if my participant logs correct. As Andrew says those volunteers who participate on the scheme and wish to get on the ladder of deerstalking and have little finance to do so and arnt afraid of doing a bit of free labour, in return we will take you out stalking where you will be under direct guidance from both my stalking partner in this venture and myself. It costs nothing and we also provide a caravan in the forest with all supplied etc food

Hi Fitchet First and foremost legally you dont need to carry out courses contrary to what you have been told to shoot deer and obtain a firearm certificate . All you need is to show cause why you need it and you are of sound Character and are and have not got sobriety issues or of a violet nature or suffer mental health issues. There is no mention in the Firearms act that an applicant has to have qualifications. However there appears to be numerous police forces that seem to interpret the firearms act to suggest that you do. However if it is your intention to take up deerstalk

Quite a few myths in relation to white deer. one being its supposed to bring you bad luck if you shoot one 1. I pose the question if left and not shot , by leaving it to die of natural causes are you being humane in your actions as a deer manager. Clearly you cant be as the objective is to maintain a healthy populus of deer on the ground, 2. By not culling any abnormal animal letting it continually breed only allows its genes to be carried on into further generations which usually show again in the seventh generation according to Gregor Mendel who studied genetic malformations. is

It must be a thing with you Soft southerners Only joking mate I must admit I do role my own and it is matched to my Mannlicher Shoenaur Stutzen I think its very imperative that the lead on the bullet is the right distance to the Oglive something factory ammo cant guarantee in every weapon , thats why adverse pressures build in ill matched situations.

Obviously you not erecting them in Scotland. Its part of some deerstalkers training to nick them of other stalkers, they also must have tuition off Paul Daniels as well because they also re appear as if by magic in other areas . especially around the surrounding Glasgow areas. Full details and cutting list on how to make a wooden Thetford High seat can be found here. http://deerstalking-uk.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=294

Nothing wrong with 270 caliber, used one for 30 years plus and its the first rifle i reach for out of the cabinet. and i shoot mainly roe deer although shot other species of deer with it. The bad press it has in relation to it kicking like a mule is a load of bollocks its a gentle push. The only thing it does have a habit of doing is muzzle lift as you loose you sight picture through the scope , but once got used to outperforms other calibers. It also used to be the standard caliber for all forestry commission rangers as its more than capable of taking all species of deer and also

Sent you a P.M mate -
As the previous posters have already stated all male deer rub off and in some cases like reindeer where the females of the species also have antlers I suppose they to must fray off to clear the velvet. bit like having a itchy pimple on your arse that drives you beyond destraction i would have thought were you have got to have a good scratch, I have the same problem with piles as the turnup on me strides are worn through where they are constantly rubbing me boots with giving them a good rent. Good Hunting Cheers Stu
