  1. We do try in there!! Isn't ironic that it's in the 'keepering section (and no I don't want it moved Ian!!) OTC
  2. I got hold of one of each size of trap from Solway Feeders today for my collection, since they had been recently been added to the approval order. I have to say that I am of mixed opinion about them. They look for all the world like the cheapo Chinky copies, all shiny steel, split rings and that. BUT, and it is a big but - they pack one hell of a punch. The Mk 6 trap is almost too strong to set for weaker trappers! The Mk 4 has the same turns on the spring as the Fenn (7) but I do wonder about the rustproof qualities of them. They are unmarked, no name on the plate or brass tongue, so could ea
  3. I can vouch for this software - I just used to it myself to send pics to a mate with a dial-up connection and it worked a treat OTC
  4. No prizes for guessing what I would like but I bet I get the usual (ie nothing!!) OTC
  5. Harry, I usually remove the berries about 3 - 6 months, but I did have a jar that I forgot to remove them from at all for a long time and it was still very tasty. I think that you have to let the licquor mature in the bottle once the berries have come out though, for at least 12 months for best results. OTC
  6. I have heard a lot of people say they can snare fish or roosting pheasants but I have never seen it done myself!! A bit like trout tickling . . . As for eating pike - a clean, lean 8lb fish is really good eating, the only drawback is the profusion of tiny bones which puts me right off. OTC
  7. I decanted this year's first run off out of the demi-john this week too, through the muslin and into the bottles. I will put the next batch out of the freezer in this weekend. I still have a fair few bottles from the year before last for this winter OTC
  8. Mark, I do not know of a book specifically about Norfolk Lurchers but Phil Drabble's book 'Of Pedigree Unknown' discusses them at some length. OTC
  9. I was only saying the other night to a member of the forum by PM that they are very thin on the ground round here (Welsh Marches) for the very same reason. I have seen big numbers in some places though - I saw a whole load up the Yorkshire Dales when I was up there last month, rabbits everywhere! OTC
  10. That all depends on what they are exactly - us old trap collectors are a fussy bunch!! Small things make lot of difference. OTC
  11. PM sent Anyone else got any old traps knocking around in need of a little Xmas pocket money? OTC
  12. Not wishing to state the obvious but I reckon he might have already tried that . . . OTC
  13. Has anyone got a contact for Chris from Saltire Bird Taxidermy AKA Hok Boi from this site ~ I have something for him in my freezer!! I have tried the email address on his website to no avail, if anyone has his number can you please ask him to contact me? Thanks, OTC
  14. There are some far more gruesome pieces of antique steel out there than those Sureshot OTC
  15. Once a persian rug salesman, always a persian rug salesman . . . OTC
  16. Chalkie, That one looks like a Canadian YMIR killer trap to me Keep them coming - I like this game OTC
  17. PM Mole Catcher on here for a good hand made one mate, he'll see you right OTC
  18. Ditch_Shitter will see this presently - he knows a bit about US made traps, perhaps he can shed a little light on the subject too. OTC
  19. By my reckoning it is a Victor Oneida Jump # 14 fox trap, made in the USA as a leghold trap for red foxes, but the exact size is difficult to tell exactly from the pic. OTC
  20. There's some good heavy duty 6 foot spun nylon nets with heavy welded rings on the Bay at the moment, I am sure the seller will give you a little extra drawcord to double peg them if you ask nicely. Check out 250194050070 OTC
  21. I had a whippet x collie bitch as my last rabbiting dog and she was pure white apart from black speckles on her ear tips and she caught plenty of rabbits. Her only drawback was that she was easily recognisable from some distance if I was on the 'other side of the fence' so to speak! OTC
  22. Before I get the seemingly now obligatory moans and 'you should know better' type replies, I would like to mention at this stage that I have had running dogs and lurchers before, and plenty of gundogs in my past. What I am looking for is good honest advice from men in the know, so I get it right first time ~ I have a first cross Beddy Grey bitch pup who is currently 8 months old. She is retrieving well and seems keen to chase birds after shaking her puppyhood off, so now it is getting towards the next stage of her training, I guess. She is fit and strong, but unwise yet, and has never seen
  23. A simple 3-sided box made of 6" planks nailed together will make an ideal tunnel, I make mine about 18 inches long. Use the open side as the floor and you can bed the trap down in the earth nicely. Other tunnel making materials I have used are 6 or 7" drain pipes or natural ones made using logs, rocks or whatever is to hand at the site. OTC
  24. Have a great day Molly, I hope Millet got you something nice . . . OTC
