any decent dog is ok for ferreting most take to it very easily -I used a pure collie and he was class /ive also used a border x lab and it was great all dogs possess a good enough nose to scent if bunny is home or not its the handlers job to take dog out enough for it to happen though

im always plinking in garden with air rifle & find it helps to sort of make guns "the norm" they soon just get used to it and I then start getting the missus to throw a dummy out when I take a shot and giving the pup a chance at retrieving[its like a reward] ,the dog then thinks guns are good! I wont take it out to shotgun till 6+ months and will stand a field away whilst mate is shooting and its the pups reactions to the shots that will determine my next steps -but I wont push on until I know the pup is confident enough -billy

ive owned dogs 35 yrs and think I know my fair share about "working" types only had gun dogs 5yrs and im fairly confident in my abilities to training them to a good standard ie beating picking up [not trial standard] -but most lads /lasses don't go as far as field trial route ,ive helped a few lads /lasses out with springer /cockers and wouldn't dream of charging them -I enjoy helping people out if it means they can one day help another out - money messes every thing up

agree with casso -koda served a mates bitch & it has changed him completely sniffs every bit of piss he can -ignores my voice [not whistle] or if I change to growl tone lol but on a whole if any bitch on the shoots has ANY signs of "heat" the day is ruined! mind you owners should know when NOT to bring there bloody bitches if in or coming in to season

cockers tend to want to be in front of every other dog and once in the working zone they are quite headstrong just keep your eyes open all times and peep dog back into you if you think its getting a bit carried away ,I would say"steady" with a stern voice and in time my bitch cottoned on with that command -best of luck lads -billy
