  11. as above -what I did was to "borrow" a friends pet rabbit for 2 weeks until I could safely let dog loose in garden with it without it pestering the living daylights out of it & returning on recall instantly she sussed it all out in 2 weeks and would still put wild bunnies up for shooting guns but knew they weren't for catching! --now for birds-I owned an allotment & kept hens ducks etc & just raised my tone of voice every time she looked like wanting to scatter them it worked fine & she was a great dog to go beating with -sadly lost her few years back but done the same wi
  12. it takes as long as it takes mate and don't over do the retrieving 2 sessions per day with about 4-5 retrieves until you & dog are confident with it giving you dummy when required -billy
  13. watched one on Saturday take a starling from a huge flock at farm it landed on a bale & plucked it bare then flew off for no reason leaving the poor starling naked but totally unharmed -I had no choice other than to kill the poor thing -im no lover of sparrow hawks
  14. it will be hard trying to train at this age but I would give it my best shot then at least you tried! -don't think its impossible though
  15. dog probably thinks your going to take her "prize" away I would go back to basics and throw dummy for her and keep a ball in your hand & as she starts to come toward you go down to her level and drop ball near you -she might realise that your not a threat but an enjoyable experience its the bond thing that is missing the dog should never feel threatened by you in any way- im sure other lads will have there views on your problem tho

  21. I use the air rifle & just get someone to throw an object for pup to run to ie,sock glove rabbit fur pigeon wing etc and fuss the pup up it then associates the firing stick as fun! then later on 4-5 months I take out over fields when a mate is pigeon shooting & just hang a good distance back always watching pups reactions to gun fire & proceed from there as is necessary-billy ps never rush things as a gun shy dog is hard to remedy
