Collie Crosses To Clever Or Too Slow
trenchfoot replied to springfield's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
why have a dog with the mental ability of a collie and keep it on a slip? To me that would be like owning Einstein and then telling him how to write the theory of relativity. -
Whats wrong with using a staghound? I'd have thought the clue was in the name.

What Adds More Drive Into A Lurcher Beddy Or Collie?

there was a time, not that long ago, that no lurcher man would entertain adding saluki to a lurcher. Now its like half of 'em are feathered eared plodders. -

if you build it, they will come. Right now those on the outside don't know what the AWL has built, if anything, other than the old ALC. Despite the cynicism of some, there is a desire for a wide based "lurcherwork" support, the questions and accusations appear to be born out that frustration. -
£11. Here you go.membership Thanks but I reckon I contravene some of the codes of conduct to be allowed in. Cheers, D. I am a member of the AA, but I've still get speeding tickets Dont speed then ! The Automobile Association or the other one? I try not to, but time was when the honest working man could travel at suitable speeds on quiet country roads or big, wide motorways early in the morning without causing any harm to anyone. But now with these stupid draconian speed limits savagely enforced by cameras an applauded by do-gooders we are stuck with it................ Sounds f

Theres a shoot around 40 miles from here that I have some permission on. A lad who does a bit of foxing with the rifle had a drive around over the last few evenings to see what the score is. 3 dead foxes left in hedge bottoms. Well somebody has been doing his job for him. Apart from the fact that the dickheads with dogs had no permission and had driven the feck out of the crops. Outcome is the farmer is pissed off and talked of pulling the plug on the shoot. it's smoothed over now, but any lurcher work permission I had is out the window. We can moan all we like about being the whipping dog

It's interesting that you suggest renaming coursing as hunting with sighthounds. As you may rightly say that the public class it along side badger baiting, yet most people have no concept of the difference between digging to badgers and badger baiting. We could call coursing "naturally selective hare management", yet the media et al would still call it coursing with hares been ripped to bits. -

difference is the packs have permission to be on land , what they do their is up to them, but the likes of hare coursers nobody will give permission as its actively fought against and discouraged with threats of fines for hosting hare coursing events by the local police and PACT groups, they don't hassle famers who allow foot packs or mounted packs or threaten them with actively encouraging foot packs or mounted ones do the police have an anti foxhunting section? they do have an anti hare coursing operation expensive though it is, as far as I know they only turn up at hunts too stop the anti -

Since the AGM has occured, have there been any changes? And given some of the renewed interest in "the fight for lurcher work" on here, would it be possible for an AWL executive committee to give an update/overview of the AGM and the role of the AWL going foreward. It may help clarify a few issues and unknowns for potential new members -
Very nice, a sharp looking critter with a life of fire and brimstone ahead of it. A credit to all involved with it

I have, many times. Most, once they get over the the "uncomfortable truths of nature" are more accepting, but it boils down to the fact that the ethos of hunting with dogs stands up to scrutiny. Its the ethics of some involved that pisses on its parade. And that is a fact I cannot argue with. -

A lot more than you and your group apparantly .As you pointed out things like your open evening with Sir Jonny Scott was a dismal failure ask your self whyand why the apathy amonst not only the young up coming dog workers buteven the limited number of old school lads still dipping there toe. When the two groups the AWL and Lacs were both trying to move toeards a sustained Campaign for repeal of the Act it was pointed out by your previous chair that all facilities were in place for the AWL to continue the long standing work the previous renamed group had been doing. It was pointed out that the -

In fairness to the AWL they have been having a restructure due to the originals chairmans ill health. They have their AGM next week I believe. See what comes out of that. The CA are having a rebrand at the minute, trying to appeal to the wider rural audience on more mainstream issues. Whilst they state to be working to overturn the ban, dwindling membership dictates they need to appeal to a wider audience to survive financially. What this means for its core supporters only time will tell. -
they do exist, they are called collie x's.

nature at raw best. But show somebody of a lurcher doing similar and they would class you as bloodthirsty scum.
