  1. Duckwing, how much would you want for a sack of hardwood snare pegs, ,i am getting proper fed up whittling ash ones as i am doing them by hand and still need to do another 3-4 hundred. Regards MT.
  2. What a great idea, pay out that much money for a grade C archer and then have to play blue peter to make bushes out of cardboard.
  3. Tomo, , i am not that bad. Well if the guy is that keen who started this thread why not spend £3,500 on advertising each year the same as me, simple. Wellyfish, the answer is put your money where your mouth is simple as that, i have been trading nearly 10 years now, every year we get the part time fly by nights trying to get in on the job, every year we see them fall by the way side. The best form of advertising is WOM, It is free, but only comes from customers who feel they have got good value for money, so dont think about charging until you have built a good reputation for walking the
  4. GOD, designed the system , every day in life some creature or bird dies for another to live , nature is totally ruthless , any sign of weakness results in starvation and death when predators kill , and birds of prey kill they are anything but humane, they act on natural instinct , man on the other hand has the power to think , form solutions, and reason , therefore we as trappers try to be as humane as possible, the problem is the weak nanny state shields modern kids from reality and the hard facts of true life . Never a truer word spoken, well put Snareman.
  5. Know what you are saying , i dont have a problem helping people out with the physical side of the job,but when you start getting threads asking you to break down your pricing structure, where to buy specialist pest control products etc, these people are just chancers feeding off our backs. I would be the first person to admit that the sort of fantastic advice you so freely give has helped many people myself included, Hopefully the sort of help you give will keep a much underated and often knocked method of control alive and with luck growth of use, albeit responsably. This is what worries me,
  6. One of the places i control the rabbits is hard against the Atlantic, very barren, the rabbits there have extremley yellow/orange fat, they strip the Gorse bare. We make wine out of the gorse from this same farm but the rabbits do not taste like it "unfortunatly".
  7. Ditchy it took me years to get the levels down to where they are today in Ireland.
  8. AT THIS TIME OF YEAR WE GET MANY DOUBLES FOR OBVIOUS REASONS, BUT I HAVE NEVER CAUGHT A WEASEL, THE ONLY NON TARGET SPECIES I HAVE EVER HAD WAS LAST YEAR, IT WAS A SHREW IN A DOMESTIC HANDKERCHIEF JOB I DID IN SOUTH DEVON. Oops, sorry about the shouting, not intended. Regards MT.
  9. Sorry to be a bit of a misery here, but seems to me we are on this forum setting rank beginers and dreamers into over night pesties by giving away every detail of the job drip by drip, i learnt the job the hard way over years and years, trial and error etc, but you could sift through previous posts on here and be armed with enough info to start tomorrow. Now dont get me wrong, i have helped a lot of people setting up, who are genuine lads, BUT, there are a lot of numpties on here who arent ever going to make it, but will end up on rogue traders, and to be honest it will be some of our faults.
  10. Ooh get those claws out, Al, when i was still living over your way mine used to be like that all the time in the winter months, i know just how painfull that is. ouch.
  11. Hey john, down here we have moved on, we have knives and forks !!! Rolfe, i too have had a MK 6 go off full on on my right thumb, luckily at the heel, problem was i had a very well to do lady customer standing over me at the time, she insisted on talking to me and asking if i was alright, all i wanted to do was shout and swear, but just had to suck it all up. Richie i never wear gloves, but just this once i wish i had been.
  12. Well i thought for my 1000,th post i would show you i am not so clever as i think i am. Over the last ten years i have been setting mole traps on a paid basis, over this time i have set thousands upon thousands of traps year in year out, never once during this time have i caught myself with one, that was until wednesday, up on Dartmoor, fingers very cold doing a sheep farm in the cold blasting wind, just fine setting the second spring when the first one went off and had my middle finger betwen the two, had to be a brand new trap as well, bloody hell it smarted. Please feel free to have a good
  13. You are able to swap from rifle to rifle, you meen like it says in their advert, or does it meen you actually managed to get the three bushes it is supposed to come with. The reason i ask is that i only recieved one bush, and that was a saga in itself, but that is another story, i bought the C grade and wanted this unit because it was supposedly changeable from gun to gun in seconds, yeah right. You have to have different sized bushes for different scopes and they all have to be laboriously set up to see through the unit, so when you go to use the rifle as a day gun it is set up all wrong.
  14. Well wheres the man himself to put up his defence of the traps, i know if i had chucked a load of money at a venture such as this i would not be sitting back and saying nothing, if the design fault has been recognised and addressed why is he not telling us, ie a large part of his potential market. Personally i think he does not know about this thread or surely he would be putting us straight on the matter. Regards MT.
  15. Well you sure look like you know how to use the tools to their full potential, most of those jobs i would have gone for live trapping on the ground and MK 6,s in the lofts first, but then i am never in a big rush to go up a ladder these days. Regards MT.
  16. Think it would be safe to assume that we have another pro pester amongst our ranks !!!! What do you use for bait in the lofts for squirrels ?, good pictures by the way. Regards MT.
  17. i got a sample mk6 trap off solway with regards to buying a good lot and tho the price was good there are bits about the trap i don,t like , mostly its the same as a fenn , strong spring, brass dog and catch , but if you take a sideways look at the solways , you can see that the round bar and the flat bar do not come anything like close to closing up properly , there a gap of about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch, i think this part of the trap is the most important as it is this bit that kills the rabbit , if its caught by body and neck then a quick kill might be on the cards, but i catch alot by just th
  18. shame on you john, with the state of that trap. Thats you told !!!!!!!, These are starting to look interesting, anyone used them enough yet to comment on whether they rust or blow up ?, as i was saying to John B last night will need to pick up another fifty or so in a few weeks time, was going to get Springers again but maybe i will hold fire until i hear about these.
  19. Deker, that is the weights i had for them. I to thought the lighter pellet should have been travelling fasrer than 20 ft/sec more than the Magnums, i will try them again this morning under more controlled conditions.
  20. Bit surprised the Bisley Magnum and AA field are quite so different! The AA actually come in different sizes, used to be 5.5mm but no longer, now available in 5.51mm and 5.52mm, take a look underneath tin, sticker will say which. My barrel is too tight for 5.52 and power drops, get more power and better results with 5.51mm. AA field and Bisley Magnum only give me about 0.5ft lb difference. Mine runs at 26ft lb! Hi Deker, just had a quick look, the AA,s are 5.51 The only thing i am wondering is that i based the figures on the weights i found on a site selling pellets, maybe they wer
  21. Nice one John. Here while we are on the subject, who was talking about the new one just brought out, saying how good a build they were etc, was it even on here, maybe it was the PCP, in that case it was probably Ditchy, Oh god my memory is going. Anyway, it is that time of year again and will be looking to pick up 50 or so, who markets them ?, was it Solway, are they worth taking a gamble on, are they cheaper than their rivals, excluding of course the cheap and nasty rubbish. Also while we are here, dug up the Flat pack sample half barrel the other day to see if it had gone rusty yet, the goo
  22. Tried a couple of sorts through the crony this afternoon, Bisley Magnums were running at 29 ft/lbs, AA Fields were runing at 24 ft/lbs, wanted to try the Eley Mags but although they fit the magazine they dont go into the barrel. Obviously power means nothing without accuracy so will try the other sorts i have for energy output and then when i have a day that is still, and i am not snowed under with work i will test them all at varying ranges on targets for grouping and down range accuracy, not forgetting trajectory between 20-60 yds. Dont hold your breath, as getting time for a day off and
  23. What did he win, if it,s the lottery i am a distant relative, well i might be, all my grand parents were from the valleys.
  24. As an aside, what's the record time for a NEWBIE becoming an EXTREME HUNTER through posting a number of irrelevent posts? Blimey see what you meen, he,s only been on here 22 days and already up on 247 posts, looks like someone needs a girlfriend or a life. Seen this before, you say the sky is blue, they come back with it is pink just to get their numbers up.
  25. Bloody hell, you did well there, they put the price up every year for that tin pot affair, they charge almost that for one ticket. We dont go anymore as we felt they take the piss on their entry fee because people are wanting to get back out after the winter lay up. You could accept the price if there were things laid on like at the CLA/ Midland, but there isnt bugger all other than a few stands. Enjoy.
