it's funny how every aspect of ferret keeping, can get such a mixed reaction of replies, as to weather its good or bad to feed dry I, like a lot of others, keep and feed dry as a fall back food for the ferts, I find it a useful suppliment, exspecially in the breeding season, when I feel its good to have food available 24/7 without the flies, I also tend to throw a handful of dry into the ferret box when going ferreting for the day, just as a bit of brekkie for them, also its handy, if Im going to be out all afternoon and evening, rather than feeding meat in daylight and attracting the fli

well, if you dont have an adult hob, it would be a good idea to keep one and have him vasectamised, thus giving you the option of bringing your jills out of season, rather than just constantly breeding jills each season, therefore, you may as well keep both the hobs, maybe get the other castrated, come next year you can keep the two brothers seperate from the jills untill needed, yes they will shag each other, but you can keep and eye on them an split them if needed, I have 3 hobs that live together fine as for using them for ferreting, sometimes when out at a warren, using jills alone you

no worries mate, its what the forum is for

that screw thread on the back is where the arial attaches, you either have to buy a pre swarred arial or get yourself a swr meter to put inbetween the arial and base unit, airials have to be the correct length to work, or you could blow the rig (base unit) the swr meter allows you to fine tune the airial you can hook it up to a normal 12 volt car battery, or simple run it of a car battery charger, dont worry bout the 13.2v, trust me, was a very big "rubber duck" in my younger days (butch scratches his head saying, who's rubber duck ) if you get a dv40, this were made as a car airial,

have the same here jack, 12 kitts in the court are 12weeks old, yet 2 of them seem to be runts, although they were bred from magwitch's greyhound line, anyway, took the smallest one out last week and kept it seperate for 3 days, its about the size of a 6 week old, fed it 4 times a day on fresh rabbit and cat milk, and it picked up and went back in the court, she's now holding her own, even with bigger siblings, her brother though, now named "herman" after the munsters, was in a really bad way, stopped eating 3 days ago and was very dehydrated, got him to the vets and they gave him antibiotics,

if you read through the 11 pages in the pinned post top of page, "alternative ferret finder" you'll see the pictures, write up etc of the loca8tor I was doing a review on, I use it alongside the mk3 as it finds above ground to 400ft, collars still need modifying a bit, myself and richie came up with the idea of placing it along the collar, inside a piece of "heat shrink" tubing, getting used to putting the collars on at the correct tightness, while at home can only be a good thing, if a ferret wants the collar off, it will happen weather its above or below ground, and then adjustments (ext

this is only what Ive been told, but by all accounts the mk2 was the prototype for the mk3 and they brought out the mk3 quite soon afterwards, having fixed any glitches, having said that, its still a finder, barring the fact it has no squelcth dial on the back, if you havent got a finder, and this mk2 has come along cheap, its got to be better than nothing

bit late mate, but just got in from work, after an hour silicone is touch dry, although still curing inside, you could have placed a carrier bag over the silicone and back filled it no probs, but as its morning now, you'll be doing that anyway

were always going to have those that like the nylon, and those that prefer the leather, but its when a total newbie to locators buys one, and everyone starts telling them to ditch the collars and go buy leather ones, at least let the guy make his own mind up, and try the nylon, just out of interest, those that dont like the nylon, what hole in the collar was you using, on the ferrets that slipped them? my 2 jills, one gets put on the first hole, the other I made a new hole (hole punch) between the 1st and 2nd hole, that leaves a hell off a lot of nylon end, sticking out, which some may fe

whats the facination with black nosed silvers jojo?, If your that desperate for one, I'll see what I have in the court, as I have two silver jills, one pink nose, one black, and you can tell each family line by the nose

I tried that and found out i couldn't tell if they had all showed at a burrow mouth ,so i came out with the bright idea of using a differnt coloured marker pen on there heads so i could tell them apart ,first time i did it i opened the box and they had rubbed against each other and they where all colours .back to the drawing board . dont it get confussing calling them all "spot"

I had a nice silver jill kitt in the court along with 4 polecat kitts, castrated hob and three jills, gave them some ferret paste today, and couldent see the silver kitt, went inside the court, searched everywhere for her, lifted up every sleeping box, checking underneath, but she was nowhere to be seen, started thinking she'd been eaten, as the court has two locks and two doors to get through, so ruled out theft, plus theres kitts in unlocked cages outside, was really baffled started sorting out all there nights food, only to remember, I had given the kitt to rolfe 2 days ago

dam right i had to dig my mk three out at five feet with no ferret. at least i knew it worked and it was wet and sandy where i got it. i think they are defintely worth getting as the old boxes are going to run out and not be serviceable any more sooner or later. why go to the added expense of replacing the collars, the nylon ones are better by far, simple do them up properly, if you cant get it tight around the ferts neck, simply make another hole, now that aint coming off, and ferret still breathing

I have 3 of the above polecats left, plus another 4 slightly lighter, plus a silver all between 10/12 weeks, pm me for details, other colours, silver, sandie, albino and poleys but they will be getting kept until "the season starts"

get someone else to hide the collars, otherwise you'll cheat and walk in their direction, get used to using the squelcth dial on the back, stand still, get a reading while turning a full 360 degree's, the turn the dial so the bleeps just stop, then try stepping forward a foot or two, that way the bleeps will only be heard when your going in the right direction, each time you get closer, turn the dial to stop the bleeps, and you'll soon be finding the collar, if the dial is'nt used it can sometimes get confussing as it will bleep at different pitches none stop
