  1. you need to handle them as much as possible, and I dont just mean picking up and putting down, whilst holding them, hand clenched around them, just behind front legs, use the other hand in the same type of grip, only a lot looser, to stroke the entire body, whilst running/pulling your hand in a downward motion, right to the tip of the tail, whilst holding them inspect their feet, ears etc as they need to be used to this, as after each ferreting trip, you'll want to inspect them for ticks, run your hands all over them, they really need to get used to it, being affraid of getting bittern, will o
  2. that would really surprise me if its illegal to use ferrets for flushing rabbits over there, its ok to go buy a gun, and use it to protect your home(lucky gits) but, hunt a bunny with a fert and its a no no as stated some use them here on rats, but you'd need to check out, if its the using of ferrets to flush any animal thats illegal, or just if used on rabbits cant see why, if you pick up some young kitts, that they would'ent be ok to use, older pets that have been treated purely as pets may stick their noses up at a hole,
  3. apart from changing the questions, as first you asked if the idea was poo, now its would it work, but it also means your keeping your ferrets shut up in a smaller area, while your trying to catch birds, would a bird/pidgeon, want to enter an area the smells strongly of ferret
  4. have you tried this mate? like a mk 1 collar with this locator tag or whatever on it aswell? is there any interfearance etc? just got me thinkin cos iv got some parts on ground i have permission on that i wouldnt even think of droppin a ferret in not because its that thick you cant do anything or i wouldnt do it anyway its still decent but there is just that chance of a ferret slippin your sight then basically your f****d so do you think you could use bothlocators on the same ferret? might be a daft question as i havent held a loc8or lite in my hand and seen the size of the tag but still worth
  5. sounds poo to me, why not just make a larsen trap, or a box with bob wires on it
  6. as an UNDERGROUND ferret locator, Id say stick with the mk1 or mk3, but as a ABOVE GROUND location system, to be used in conjunction with a deben, then its a usefull addittion, as stated, if your ferreting in heavy ground cover, a ferret could easily slip away, using the loca8tor gives you a min 400ft search area, check out the complete write up in the top pinned section
  7. Id suggest you fill in your profile, and get a few more posts under your belt, we get lots of newcomers asking the same question,
  8. either of these any good for you, the ones with inbuilt drainer are fetching silly money, I got a good deal there for £25 e bay number 330256156447 st albans way or 270257893471 this one I could always pick up for you
  9. of course you can buy the bigger bag, just put it in an airtight container if your worried about it going stale,
  10. looking good, nice to see there being well looked after
  11. well if its pissing it down, can you see ferrets wanting to be out in it, without a roof
  12. I suppose different locations, different prices, had been buying it in 7.5kg sacks at £18.00 from a local trading estate pet shop, while at the stables picking up a bale of woodchip, noticed they sold the small bags, on asking was told they sold the BIG bags at £38.00 which are 20kg, so they now have me as a new customer
  13. nice going rich, if you need anymore mesh, gimme a shout mate, 8x4x3/4, yours if you need it
  14. not a very mature approach to someone's answer whippeter, are you the same with any answer you dont like, I can see that warning bar rising pretty soon, as this is not the section I look after, I'll leave it to the forum moderator to deal with,

    A Riddle

what doe's a man do standing up a woman do sitting down and a dog do on three leg's and no, it aint have a pee
  16. another idea for you, get the largest bunny bottle drinkers they sell, then make some of these up out of old offcuts of mesh, fixed to the outside wire, it makes it easier than having to ponce about with the white piece of wire of course you'd put the bottle in, facing the opposite way, and thats a salt/vitamin lick under it before people ask
  17. PVA, also known as uni-bond, or to the layman, woodglue water it down 50% and paint the breeze block first, even better if you spray the blocks first with a fine mist from the hose, as the blocks will suck up the water, giving you better coverage on the 50% mix, then slap your masonary paint on, either when its "tacky" or wait till its dry
  18. I'd go with, from left to right polecat, dark polecat, albino I have a few kitts in the dark polecat shade, which I would'ent really even call polecat, as they are so dark, and de-viod of the mask, if anything, more of a mink appearance (before anyone ask's, no they wer'nt breed from wild mink, polecat, beaver, otter etc)

    ferreting

I dont think calling someone names is going to help any there's probably lots of youngsters out there with new ferrets, but no one to show them the ropes, but like the rest of us, are itching to get back out and catch rabbits, you only learn from either being shown or asking questions, so maybe he'll take note on the replies, and keep the kitts at home for a few more weeks, until theres and "R" in the month, by which time, he'll have read alot more topics on here concerning ferreting, if its ferret food he needs, get an air rifle and pop a few off

    ferreting

I suppose its everyone one to there own, but 10 weeks is way too young in my eyes,
  22. a total newcomer to ferreting can find it very daunting going out for the first time, exspecialy if they have no locators, far better if someone can take them under their wing for a trip or two, if you ever essex way, gimme a shout
  23. here's another for ya pat, makes you want to get those baskets out dont it, how many last night
  24. nice one mate, glad someone liked the idea, old pairs of jeans, hung horizontally from the roof, they use the legs as tunnels, hammocks etc, when dirty, just un clip and stick in the washing machine, old wellies with the toe cut out, mine love those, must be the rubber, kinky ferrets
  25. yes they can swim, as long as they can get out ok, then the depth is irealivant
