I'll probably get crucified for my answer, but here goes, depending on who/where you get you first ferret, starts the ball rolling, lets say you get a ferret/s purely for working, you chat to the ferreter that your getting the ferts from, most will give you a brief run down on ferret husbandry, followed by "any problems, give us a ring" that new ferreter, will get most of his infomation, from keepers of working ferrets, thus dos'ent start asking what to feed them, when to worm them, flea collars etc same person buys a ferret/s from either a re-homing centre, or pet ferret keeper, ask'

my advice would be to do a bit more research/reading before you get them, having to ask a simple question of what to feed them, suggests to me, that your compleatly in the dark RABBIT ,RABBIT AND MORE RABBIT but you would be better asking the breeder what they have been feed on before you got them and if need be change them over gradually thanks for the advise lads better hands on than readin about them in a book beg to differ on that answer, what would you have done, if your question was not answered, or the forum was off line for repairs, give them some cat food, or lo

I cant see a problem with wood shavings, have always used it, and never had any problems, and it does a bloody good job of keeping urine/poo neat and tidy so to speak, I know you'll say it sticks to the fresh rabbit, but if you watch ferts eating, they shake their heads whilst eating, to get the woodchip off, when you think they can eat fur, skin, bone, meat, the odd shaving aint going to hurt them, go with woodchip

trust me, the pidgeon spikes dont always work on pidgeons, an intruder would laugh at them, but anyone wants some, got boxes of the things

I once had someone climb over mny garden fence, trying to nick the dogs, on putting barbed wire up, got a visit from the council telling me they would take me to court, unless I removed it but it was ok for me, to bang 3" nails in top of fence, heads cut off at an angle, with garden twine tied to them, for my non=excistent runner beans to grow up

Ive seen the odd earwig, does that count

not just liver on its own, I use the liver from the whole rabbit thats fed to them, which may therefore be shared between 6 plus ferrets, but would'ent recomend it as the only food offered

so you bred them only to sell, rather than increase your ferreting stock and your asking a simple question like that, that can be read in most books/internet searches, after breeding them, surely those things should have been checked out first, but in answer to your question, 8 weeks old

ferreting skills needed to control rabbits
stubby replied to firkin ferreter's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
have often thought about stables/fields and rabbit control, maybe the link you have put up will get some rabbiting permission for people, just to remind everyone though, that getting permission this way, most stables would expect you to have full public liabilty insurance -
we seem to get this question come up every year, ferrets are NOT dogs or cats, are therefore do not need the same sort of treatment if you saying you have seen "worms" in your ferrets feces, then fine, but I doubt it, remember, vets are there to make money, they will tell you anything, if they think it will keep you coming back

whats the difference between an egg and a wank you can beat an egg

I downloaded the demo, onto vista and it played fine looks quite a good game for a rainy afternoon

first question would be, are you getting paid to clear it, or is it a free-bie, Ive done a job, very simular to this by the sounds of it, but we laid a line of 100 live catch traps, and got good results, but then, we were getting paid, the traps were bought within the quoted price, if your doing it for free, then you dont really want to start paying out money to catch them, in which case, if you dont already know, do your research on ferrets and use them, with a few helping hands, that would be no problem
-
specially as you'vre now directed a bunch of ferret keepers to it

at the moment I have an 8 week old jill ferret polecat, that looks more like a 5 week old, in a cage ALONE in the front room, the reason, its the runt of the litter, and was slowly getting starved out by its bigger siblings, so at the moment its being kept on its own to try to save it, so would that be classed as cruel???? you say, she has no one to help her, well she's got you aint she?, by the sounds of it, at least she has asked, if I were you, Id recomend to her to get a hob, you never know, Ive seen post's by yourself, asking for ferreting buddies, your age, we'll maybe with a bit of gui

we gut in the field, but leave them in their skins, on getting home, their feet are chopped off (easier to fit in freezer) rabbits already frozen are removed from the freezer, the newly caught are placed at the bottom, and frozen ones on top, that way, rabbits used each day (ferret food) have been frozen for at least a week, if not more, any used for the table, have been frozen too, thus no flea's

its up to you, you can as you say, pull the bolt back enough to load the mag, then leave it un cocked and un loaded, but this can then lead to missed shots, when you forget to cock before aiming at your quarry, far better to arrive at your permission, get set up, insert the mag, and pull it back to the click and load a pellet, then just put the safety on, then while walking/stalking if you see something, you only have a slight movement of taking the safety off, rather than lots of movent to lock and load, get into the habit of re loading after each shot, before moving off or collecting shot qu

its simple, when you pull the bolt back, you'll feel like its gone back far enough, well it has'ent now is the time you have to give it that extra little pull, listen and your hear it click, then push forward and down, its locked and loaded, as already mentioned, if you pull the trigger, and nothing happens , pull the bolt back half way, remove the mag, carry on pulling back, till you hear the click, then push the bolt home without the mag, it'll fire like a single shot, it doe's take a bit of getting used to, most people that try my TDR S410 end up doing the same as you

if you cant get rabbit, try chicken thighs from supermarket, just chop into smaller chunks, bone and all
