  1. I hope you don’t mind me jumping in here Si but I have a bit of experience with these reversing cameras mind I must say not exactly that make. When I started mucking about with NV my brother had the same idea as you and got one from the Bay. On arrival it immediately became clear it was not up to the job of a NV spotter. They are designed to operate over a very short distance and as such the field of view of the camera and NV capabilities were very poor. Ian
  2. Hi Si, it’s a fixed magnification but I cant remember what as I got it from Ebay and the bloke I got it from only had the one, its not printed on. It focuses by screwing in and out of the camera body as all lenses do on these devices. If you want something a bit better quality than my lens these are the people to contact but they don’t sell cheep crap so their prices reflect it. http://ukaoptics.com/ccd.html Hope this helps Ian
  3. Nice one Si, its funny mow many people have cottoned on to how easy it is to produce your own NV using cheep ebay parts and a bit of nouse. I have been mucking about since before Christmas and I’m really enjoying myself. I do have an NS50 that I use but really like old school lamping as well so have built a couple of spotters that I use in conjunction with a Tracer Ledray. Recently I have put together a set up that I have been using for “static lamping” of rabbits and rats with good results. Its basically a wireless version of the setup I use to shoot rats in the garden but uses a wireless I
  4. No Mate defiantly not...........but your not paranoid or anything!!!!!!! No seriously its not you with the personality disorder but I suspect the person it was aimed at wants to get into a slagging match and frankly I couldn’t be bothered so ill say no more about it and hope he goes away.
  5. Very True......I have a Hawke and a Nikko Sterling at the moment and have had the opposite experience, I love the Sterling but I just cant get to grips with the Hawke.
  6. Ill bow to the superior knowledge of the forum but all I can say is for mice they must be hard as nails as they have been living in a small shed amongst a family of rats………. then again they are Geordie mice and to be honest I have never seen them wearing a coat, even in winter!!!! On another note its quite interesting to see the response from a certain member of the forum to a light hearted post I’m not even getting into insults and counter insults, and I’m not talking about the antis. I don’t need to prove how smart I am by putting others down and pity anyone that need to boost th
  7. If I’m brutally honest I really don’t rate the accuracy much. I really want to like this gun as it ticks all the boxes as a ratter, which is what I got it for, but I just don’t find it that accurate. Its well made for the price and very quick to handle but I don’t have confidence in it. I’m actually thinking of making the swap to an Ultra for Ratting. I did look into getting it Regd but to my knowledge nobody does this work at the moment, after enquiring I was told Tench are going to do one in the future.
  8. No don’t roll your eyes and “tut” at me this is not a my rat is bigger than your rat affair... in fact its the total opposite. It all started the week before Christmas when I noticed a Scarily Tail visitor helping itself to the bird food in the guardian. GET IN!!!!!....... I thought Santa has got me exactly what I wanted for Christmas, to fill my time over the holidays...............but unfortunately, like all new toys at this time of year I broke it by Boxing day..........with a little help from Mr Brocock Although there were no more sightings I couldn’t believe it was a lone r
  9. Interesting, as I said in my original post my reaction to the photo when I was presented with it was “that’s not a rat” though it does look “rat like”. To me its head is out of proportion to its body for a brown rat. I have been assured the photo is genuine though obviously I did not see the rodent with my own eyes. The pic was allegedly taken near Consent in the north east, on the bank of a small reservoir.
  10. On the subject of Big Rats I asked one of our contractors at work the other day if his step son could to get me an invite to shoot the rats he has near his house. The lad is a trainee Gamekeeper and lives next to a reservoir. I was then shown this picture of a rat reputed to have been taken at the reservoir. I have not as yet been given permission as the lad is only young and is not comfortable asking his boss. This is not a joke and I showed the picture to another local who immediately said he recognised the bloke in the pic and named him so it appears to be genuine. My immediate reaction wa
