You just have to admire his skill, nutter or no. And think of the concentration needed to do that on crowded roads: awesome nutter!

With a name like 'Dingle' what do you expect? Another wannabee hard man: I don't think!

Ours are all still on top in beet and cover! At this rate it will be Christmas before we find anything to ground.

Dogs are usually bigger than bitches anyway, but there is a lot of size variation both in Salukis and Greyhounds, regardless of the size of the parents as they can throw back to grand parents and beyond: all it takes is a doubling up of the 'big dog' genes and you can get a big un!

The danger time is not straight after a bitche's season is finished: it is about 6 weeks later, or aprox 3 weeks before she would have pups had she been mated. the body lays down a lot of fat including around the internal organs (this fat would see the bitch through if she were a wild animal and had to lay up with her new borns for a couple of weeks, maybe without eating if she has no mate). The sinews and ligaments also stretch and soften prior to giving birth and the muscle tone goes right soft: a lot more obvious in very sighthoundly lurchers. This stage can go on until the imaginary p

That is fantastic news: hope he recovers ok: any details on how they found him?

Nice one: one of my favourite occupations.

Are you sure its hip displaysia? Unlikely in a running dog: more likely to be a torn muscle: makes them pick a leg up: get the dog to a good greyhound vet.

Rain? What's that?? Like concrete round here: even the grass fields are like tarmac under the grass: sick of it. Blowing a gale tonight and the wheat fields are like covered with concrete marbles.

Ken Dodd and the Diddy Men??

Just treat her as normally as possible without distressing her, in other words leave her shoe with her but try and get her out for a walk and interested in other things. It will pass, though the more you pander to her the worse she'll be. Is she a hunting dog? If so, then try and get her out to hunt something and distract her from her 'shoe pup'. I don't know if you can get the stuff where you are but Raspberry Leaf tablets help with phantom pregnancies: the same stuff pregnant women take for an easy labour. It help the uterus contract. The only thing is that you need to start giving

That's brilliant: well done that pup! Haven't dared take mine out on the lamp yet: she is 26" and 32 kilos!!!! May be a touch over the top for bunnies!

I wasn't trying to be defensive: its just that I know that some people don't believe a word of what they hear or read unless there's pics to prove it. I'll put a pic up of the little terrier that did all the graft though, but of course it's such a long time ago that there's hardly a mark left on her. Royston: wind me up: moi??? Never

Fraid not: don't usually take the camera out in the dark! And my phone's only a cheap old thing. You'll just have to take my word for it SJM: anyone that knows me knows I don't make things up! And isn't there a rule that there must be a gun in the pic or it'll get taken off: I put a pic up once with a dog on a fox and admin took it straight off!

As it says in the title, a long, long time ago, many moons, (and years come to that), after a day's beating when the terriers had worked their socks off in the cover putting up birds all day, I just took them out for a quick walk the day after, just to give them a leg stretch. Late afternoon of a November, and I was all set to go lamping that night as there was a good old wind a blowing, so just a quick mooch along a couple of fields and then back along an old gravel pit. There was a load of old brambles along this bank, which was about 18 foot high, right next to the little lane that lead

That is bad, bad news.

permanent damage or just a sore dog?
skycat replied to holy grail's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I would bet money on your dog having either a trapped nerve in either its neck or back somewhere, or a badly pulled or torn muscle. The only person who will be able to diagnose and sort this problem would be a racing greyhound 'back man' or chiropractor or a racing greyhound vet: normal vets can't handle this sort of thing: a bit like ordinary doctors (GPs) in this country not being able to sort out people's backs. Presumably its the same down under? These sort of injuries are very common among running dogs, but running a dog too young or unfit doubles your chances of it getting injured -
And for God's sakes don't anyone think they can just net and sack a hare: they die of shock or smash themselves to bit in boxes very easily when transported: there's a particular method and type of box they need to be in if they are to survive. I do wish you hadn't put this post up scared sh*tless someone will try and bag them and end up killing them by accident. Don't do it fellas! If this guy really wants hares like has already been said he should contact Altcar or some other big estate. Just as a matter of interest: if there are no hares at all down on this farm, is it perhaps bec

They all vary slightly: some of mine are stilling showing blood at 20 days, though have been ready to mate well before then. Others barely bleed for 7 days.

Laugh? Till I cried: Great read. thanks for that. Looking forward to the pics.

Cracking footage. You say they're smaller than brown hares, but they still look like a good old mouthful for the lurcher.

I firmly believe that you have to be a certain sort of person to get on with Salukis (and some of their hybrids). Forget about robot obedience etc, and don't expect a Saluki to grow any sort of brains until it's at least 12 months old. They are very slow to mature both physically and mentally. I've only had the one but she worked very well with the terriers out bushing. Friends who own and work them tell me that you just can't bully them into doing anything. In other words you need a lorra lorra patience. Personally I think they are fantastic hunting dogs and brought up right will take a

My old white lurcher has had a few, she's nearly 13 years old. I just squeeze the cottage cheesy stuff out until it bleeds then disinfect it and it scabs up and the scab comes off and its no more problem. Probably not the correct thing to do as it probably mangles the sebacious gland, but I've always done it and never had a problem. My old Deer/Grey got a couple when she was getting on a bit. PS Just re-read your post S, and maybe we're not talking about the same thing as these wouldn't have been able to be removed by ligature: think of a black head enlarged a lot just poking through th

There is only one wormer that I'll use and that is Drontal Plus. Even Panacur has to be given as a 7 day course if you want to get all the worms so it's a lot more hassle. Drontal: one tab per 10 kilos body weight. No starvation needed and I've never had a dog throw it back up yet. Plus: some dogs just don't do very well on a cereal based diet. Meat and animal fat are the way to go if you want to get some weight on your dog
