  1. i am after a redline airedle was wondering if u could help as to were i could get one from The guy that bred mine says he's not breeding any more due to having problems finding homes for the pups last time. PM me and I'll give you my number for a chat: there are a few more about in the UK that he has bred but no one has bred any more Airedales as yet: I do think there is a limited market for them as they do need good handling and training if they are to be controllable. Not the sort of dog that you can just leave in the kennel then take out: though of course I'd say that of any dog rea
  2. TPMS: just google TPMS for their website: my stupid computer won't let me access the link at the moment!
  3. Love the Sloughis: though I have heard from someone else who lives in the South of France that their dogs do get a fair bit of exercise on the long ears when they're just out for a walk LOL
  4. Superb photos: looks in great condition: and no spring chicken either by the looks of things.
  5. I would say that it's far more likely she has over run herself slightly. when the breathing is laboured over a period of time (as in running hard when slightly unfit) the throat gets sore, plus there will be some phlegm coming up even when no infection present. This will cause a cough just like you describe. The trick is to get them galloping a fair bit before they actually chase something: gets the lungs back in to working mode, rather than just light work then full on running something that keeps on going and going. Dogs can also breathe in fur, bits of grass, debris etc when they
  6. You are too kind sir! LOL Just have to say, I wish I had discovered these Redlines 20 odd years ago: their drive is phenomenal and they don't seem to ever get tired, dispirited or damaged (very important!) Skins like rhino hide and a truly great temperament as well: cheerful easy going dogs at home and great guard dogs as well. Yesterday we were being hassled by an idiot bullock who wouldn't leave us alone and kept mock charging me and the pups: Dill came back from where she was working the hedge, took one look at the bovine fool and charged him, barking and chivvying him until he
  7. That first pic says it all: For a dog to still be going strong at 8 years old it needs a bit of luck in not getting put out of the game due to injury, but it also needs a damn good owner to keep the dog in good condition and know when to rest it etc. Hats off to both of you.
  8. Surely the final should be run on neutral ground: ground that neither dog knows?
  9. That black and cream Saluki type is just superb. Whin: would you say that the jack rabbits are harder than our brown hares over in the UK? I've read Dutch's book: Gazehounds and Coursing: a brilliant read. Does he still keep dogs with a bit of the scent hound in them? I really liked his idea of the Redman's breeding. Do tell a bit more about some of the courses you've seen over in the States! Please!
  10. I've just thought of something else: the dog you've only had for 3 weeks could have picked up a bug it has no immunity to at your place. Not saying your place is dirty but each environment has its own bacteria etc: which is why its not uncommon for dogs to get upset guts when moved. OR: it could be stressed from the move, which could also have the same effect.
  11. strongly recommend buying a book called "book of the bitch" as if you dont know this much (basic stuff lets face it) then you really need to read up a bit at least, if you are going to whelp and rear a litter with the best chances of survival. I'll second that! This book was my bible when I started breeding.
  12. Having had and worked Lakelands in the past I would say that these Airedales are a long way from being a big Lakeland. Trainability, responsiveness, intelligence etc: on a par with a really good Collie. Mine are retrieving obsessed, work cover like Spaniels on steroids LOL: if they were bigger I'm sure they would still have a place in any of the forces today: that is one of the reasons GSDs took over from them in the past. People also use them as bird dogs in the States, love water, mine will hold a point on birds even at this age, but go straight in on rabbits: interesting difference.
  13. FAO the person who pmed me about the Picardy! Sorry, I pressed delete instead of reply! can you pm me again and I'll give you an update. Cheers!
  14. All those things you mentioned are important, but IMO just as important is field sense, prey sense and the right instinct to deal correctly with a variety of quarry. Those attributes are, or should be, inherited from ancestors, if correctly bred from dogs that have excelled in the field as all round hunters. Let's face it: wolf cubs inherit a lot more than big ears and a thick coat from their ancestors! IMO, there is no substitute for breeding from a line of proven workers, regardless of the breeding. It depends what you want to breed for: fast take off( being just one thing needed in
  15. I hate to say this, but that Wags food is one of the cheapest and most horrible there is: I bought a bag once in desperation when I was very hard up: my dogs are normally fed on raw: well this stuff went through them like a dose of salts. If your dog has always been fed raw I would strongly advise getting him (and you other dog) on to a decent diet: that Wags is total rubbish and the fact that the dog is scouring should tell you something about the quality of the 'food' (though I'd hesitate to call it that) the poor bugger is having to eat. Sorry to rant: but I think it is positively crimin
  16. I don't suppose you have any pics of you lying in a wet road with your tights in your hand getting wet and dirty wearing a Fox fur coat do you Skycat..........? The mind boggles! LOL It was a very long time ago And no, I didn't have a camera with me: it was on a road in France in the middle of the night and me and my sister were going home for Christmas: never saw another soul all night: just as well perhaps
  17. The second one, wearing the collar, is from the same litter as mine: the bloke who had her is working away a lot and felt he couldn't give her the time she needed so he brought her over to me. She is lighter built than mine but shows every inch as much hunting instinct. I didn't really want two, and although she is coming on really well I do feel that she would benefit from more one to one attention as she is a much more submissive nature than her sister and tends to be a bit in Dill's shadow, though she's happy with her place in the pack: actually a damn sight easier to train as she isn't c
  18. If the wrists are swollen and there is no actual wound on the skin then the dog has probably sprained its wrists, in which cast it will take several weeks to come right. Why do you think that the dog has hit its wrists with its hind feet: that would be very unusual unless the dog has really bad conformation. If there are wounds to the backs of its front legs its more likely to have been caused by running on stony/rough ground. Not all dogs are prone to it but it depends on the breeding of the dog and its running style: some very fast dogs tend to suffer from this problem.
  19. I once had a fox fur coat: long time ago before antis were likely to throw paint at you for wearing fur: that coat was waterproof, windproof and once spent hours lying on a wet road in the middle of winter under a car when trying to fix a fan belt with a pair of tights LOL: Just brushed the sh*t off it and let it dry and it was as good as new! One of the finest pelts known to animals I reckon.
  20. Mine are only 10 months old: have to wait a couple of years at least before I breed my Airedale lurcher!
  21. INO the words cheap and good are a contradiction! Cheap equals: bulky fillers like beet pulp, potatoes and soya, very little meat content and the meat that will be in those foods will be chieken and turkey giblets and necks, plus large quantities of wheat etc: and of course a heap of preservative to stop the whole rotten mess going off! Ever noticed how bad dog sh*t smells when a dog is fed on cheap food? And also just how much cr*p the dog produces? Appears a damn sight more than it ate in the first place! Feed raw and have a healthier dog, less sh*t with virtually no smell and you
  22. Definitely both: you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, but many a fool has ruined a decent bred dog as well: cuts both ways.
  23. Put wood shavings down in the run and put a roof on the run: many dogs don't like going outside if it is damp or raining or cold: never had a problem since roofing in runs and putting shavings down.
  24. That is some result! But you forgot to mention, as part of the equipment: the dogs doing the driving! LOL
