  1. Having watched part of it again, on that last feral, the pellet trajectory is captured amazingly, is that this casio camera that everybody is using?
  2. Great video one of the best I've seen so far on this site. Great looking rifle and good humane shooting. Well done mate.
  3. Good vid, can you get the focus sorted so the bunnies and reticle is in focus, like those elmafud take, or is that not possible?
  4. I have a deben on my .17hmr, no problems and it used almost every day.
  5. SWshooter. I forgot to add, I am using the 452, with 16" varmint barrel, scirroco moderator, and bushnell banner scope.
  6. SWshooter. Pretty much agree with Markha in everything he says. I use Hornady V max and have found these much better than the hollow point for reliably hitting the target at long range, mainly due to the fact that they are slightly flatter. I am currently using Hornady blue tip, but only because they were a good price at the time. I have used hornady red tip and remmy accu tip, and found no difference with any of them. As Markha says the HP gives you an extra 3 grains, but the additional small amount of energy gained, for me is not worth it. The V max is more than capable of dropping foxes in
  7. Markha, I use "shooter" by Sean Kennedy on my HTC, again it is bob on out to about 300 with the .17hmr. Too many other variables then come into play. I prefer to work in milrad myself, but only stuck a cheap Bushnell banner 3-9 x 40 on it, which I don't regret as it more than does its job, but I know I can do more, with a slightly bigger magnification range.
  8. Sundaybain, I am using a Panasonic HD SD90, with 40x izoom. Converted to wmv to reduce file size. Set it up on small tripod next to rifle.
  9. Been out this morning with my lad, an got this!
  10. I might be wrong but if you just turn off gps, it should stop geotagging, which is the attaching of longitude and latitude coordinates to any photos. Most phone or cameras that have this facility, you actually have to turn this on manually if you want location details added to it. This sounds typical of Apples way in which they collect users info without them realising it. Here one you might not know tho_ a Phone can be tracked by telephone companies and other agencies, even if it is turned off, providing the battery is still on the phone, and has some charge left!
  11. I agree with a lot of what has been said. I have had ferrets on and off for the last 40 years, and have never had to do anything with any of them, apart from work them. I have drainage tubes in their court and in the garden, and along with giving them plenty of fresh rabbit, I have always found they are good. If they are a bit unsure, catch a baby rabbit and introduce them to it, they soon get the idea!
  12. It's the high speed camera mate - it was shot at 240fps (30fps is normal speed video) You can slow down normal footage but it will look like a slide show. No where near as good as yours pal, but this is the link to one I did with a .17hmr on a bunny at 181yds. One yours it was interesting to see the pellet exiting, on this one I find it it interesting that you can see the bullet swirl or vortex, as the bullet tracks towards the bunny. Its very quick, but if you know what to look for its plain to see. Hope you do plenty more of your vids, as i have just subscribed.
  13. I have not read anybody on here saying the 17hmr is an everyday 200+ rifle. They are all saying it is capable of it, and will easily do it in the right conditions. Yes it gets affected by wind, but so does every bullet, and if you are good enough to read the wind it can do what it likes- aim off or adjust! .22 rf 100 yd max. .17hmr like a laser out to 130 when zeroed at 110. If you want a rifle as a plinker, or hit and miss, thats up to you, but the .17hmr is certainly not overated!
  14. You can try what you want, the most important thing is that you are comfortable, and that whatever you use allows that perfect or near perfect position when you have to take the shot. When you have a known location to ambush the fox, such as a rock den or other, I will sometimes spend a bit of time during the day to sort out fire position, removing rocks etc to ensure comfort when lying out. Usually quite safe to do this if 150-200m + away from den. Always work on the basis that a solid shooting position is better than an improvised one. The more you do it of course, the more your neck muscles
  15. Tom. Coming from a sniping and gamekeeping background the best bit of advice I can give you is spend a bit of time building or selecting a comfortable firing position. Try and position your body so that your legs are slightly lower than your body, and this isn't always possible if shooting across a valley. The biggest mistake a lot of people make is trying to asume the fp and keep it for hours on end. If possible set your binos on a rest or small tripod observing the den, and then use a combination of your skills of observation and field craft. When like you I am on the moor lying up, I am li
  16. Cz 452 16" heavy warming barrel with rimfire magic trigger kit, is as good as any. Rabbits and crows beyond 200yds in still conditions. And No, trigger kits are not illegal but don't fit the very light one unless tgt shooting. When fitted it beat the trigger on my accuracy international AWP.
  17. That last shot is is a great bit of vid - how did you do the slo mo- is it on the camera or editing software?
  18. Kay is always worth a read re ferrets - common sense with no s**t.
  19. Harris is probably better made, but I have a fixed Harris and a swivel Deben, and they both do the job. I have had no issues with the deben if that is what you are asking, and mine get quite a bit of usage.
  20. Don't normally wash em, but picked up 2 jill kits the other day that stunk like sh*te, literally, so got beaphar ferret shampoo, an now they just smell like ferrets!! only really washed em cos the kids are handling them all the time.
  21. Watching that, I dont think there is a lot to worry about!! Lets face it - they MUST have more important things to be getting on with!
  22. Tobias, its good to see you have an open mind about scopes, and although I personally prefer S & B, have a look at some of their reticles in a gun shop. Remember that with a first focal plane scope, the targets expands proportianly with the reticle- so if the reticle covers .10 of a rabbits head at 2.5x magnification, it will still cover .10 of a rabbits head at 10x, or 12x or even 25X magnification. It sounds like you may be using a reticle that is very thick in the first place, and not a duplex or triplex reticle that is very fine, at the point of aim.
  23. confirm agouti is very quick service and A1
  24. Really interested what went wrong with your S & B first focal plane scope? In my experience you cannot beat the S & B, as long as it is not the hungarian ones, which just dont have the same quality of glass, and they generally have thicker reticles. For me its S & B PM11, 3-12 x 50 with reticle in first focal plane every time, and I have used Leupold, Zeiss, Nightforce and IOR. The only other one coming close is the IOR, front focal plane, (although it doesnt look good to the eye) Unless you are target shooting, an wanting every bullet in the same hole, first focal plane is great
  25. This one is a cracker, with IR flash, but they also do it with out the red glow for a few quid more. http://www.trail-camera.co.uk/wildlife/Ltl-Acorn.htm
