  1. My advice was to read up properly on the facts, put a sock in John Cravens mouth, and take notes from ITV's Countrywise and The Dales, as they aren't scared to show someone with a gun.
  2. Although, saying that, I've noticed a huge increase in rabbits round here over the last year. Seems everyone is shooting/ferreting/etc the well known and 'proven' spots, instead of actually looking at where the rabbits are. But I suppose that says a lot about the types of people who are hunting these spots, all about cents not sense
  3. Rabbit, game meat, and all these 'thrifty' cheap cuts of meat that Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall has been going on about for the last few years has caused more people to be interested in wild food, thus more people are hunting and selling it for a smaller, more competitive price, to chefs who charge redicules amounts to middle class people wanting a taste of British heritage. My point is, if you're doing it because your heart is in it, chances are you're going to get heart broken.
  4. Aye anar, I'm on persuing other routes as well. Just thought with so many people on here shooting, etc on farm land surely someone will know of someone willing to take on an apprentice. I hope anyway haha.
  5. Ive just read your post .. Good luck pal. You on about going to haughall? I went there for about 3 month. What you wanting to study? Aye Houghall mate. I was going to do a full time course there but in all honesty I'd rather jump in at the deep and and start working as soon as possible, least then I'll be making money, so apprenticeship it is What did you do like? Was the course just 3 month or did you leave? Did you do any of the short courses? I've been looking at some of them to do in me spare time, dry stone walling, etc. Look canny good.
  6. I've just posted almost the exact same thing haha. All the best mate, if I get any contacts or owt I'll let you know as well
  7. I've got some sitting in the fridge, any suggestions on what to do with it? Fancy using it as part of something 'more interesting'..
  8. (the title is meant to say farm, not fram ) Hi, I'm meant to be starting an apprenticeship in agriculture with Houghall College this September, however I'm finding it hard to find someone willing to take on an apprentice. Preferably a livestock farm, as that's my main interest, but fully willing to work with crops, poultry, etc. I am 23 years old, with 9 GCSE's, and have grown up with horses and chickens, so some knowledge already of land based work. I have my own transport. And it would be 4 days work per week, then I'd do a day at college. I will be being taught not only
  9. "you're about as much use as a chocolate fireguard" was always the one in our family
  10. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Complete-Lurcher-Whippet-Hare-Coursing-ALL-DVD-/250783881309?pt=UK_CDsDVDs_DVDs_DVDs_GL&hash=item3a63e2585d Has anyone ever bought these? They're just DVD copies. Just I'm not going to bother buying them if it's just 4 hours of runs, rather it explained techniques, history, etc.

I think it has to do with Tony Blair being forced to enforce the hunting act, but as he is pro-hunt he included a few exemptions to allow hunting to continue, so.. if you hunt protected species / national treasures you will be punished, but if you give enough reason for it (ie, protection of livestock, etc) then you will get away with it. Basically, hunting for fun is out, hunting for necessity is in. Which is the way it should be It also means coppers will look at you hunting with a guilty until proven otherwise attitude.
  14. Probably not so good if you're zooming in alot, lens zoom is fine but as soon as you go into digital zoom (as you are pressing the zoom + button) them the quality gets worse.
  15. Personally I'd say the midlands, particlarly the west midlands. Looks like a concrete shanty town, buildings aren't even half knocked down when a new block of flats is built on top.
  16. Just wondering the ins and outs of insurance, how it's different for different livestock, amount of land, use of the land etc. What other factors are involved?
  17. Season for big County shows is June-August/September usually. Depends what you're after really - gamefairs, lurcher/terrier shows, horse shows, etc....
  18. It's fake, but like the fella says it's meant to draw the publics attention towards urban foxes.
  19. It's probably easy to say Weardale and Teesdale is the same as the Yorkshire Dales, but they just seem so much more homelier and 'nicer' than the Yorkshire Dales. Hopefully getting myself a house and some land in Weardale, that would be a dream.
