  1. Same mix as mine mate, as said good around the ferrets and coming on well lamping really easy to train and everything we've done so far she's took to well. Brothers got first x beddy whip, different temp altogether, very head strong, a lot more like my jack russel in her ways( you can tell there's more terrier in the mix), is constantly working, just started on the lamp and is hunting up badly needs a bit of a firmer hand I think in training. She doesn't seem to want to please you as much as please herself, but when it all comes together for her she could turn out good, as her drive is really
  2. thanks very much lad of here sorted me out earlier though No worries mate, glad you got it sorted, All the best
  3. a lamping mate of mine has same cross as you mate just turnd 8 year old but one hell of a dog Mines still young mate around 15 mnths, but I'm really pleased so far, she's very steady and is coming on well on the lamp, runs the beam well and recall is really good, retrieve is a working project but we'll get there or there abouts , I'm sure she's gonna be a good alround rabbiting dog, she works with my terrier bushig and ferreting too. Her downsides are she's a bit nervy especially around dogs she doesn't know, I don't know why as she was well socialised as a pup and I think another co
  4. yeh that would start me stuttering,, feck that,, hare coursing maybee,, but not for bunnys Fair comment Got to be honest I could never see myself paying a farmer to do their pest control, no matter how much I enjoy it
  5. Cheers lads, last year I worked on a farm ( doing roof repairs) I had the dogs with me and the farmer invited me up for a night with the dog because he was impressed with how she was around his cattle etc he was a shooter and wanted to see the dog run. Now she's going ok I'll take her up and have a night out with him, As I'm getting back into it after a while out the old permission we had has gone ( some of it completely gone, housing estates on one bit and tescos + industrial estate on another) and it seems the attitude towards lurchers in particular is different. I don't think it takes the
  6. Wasn't as good as I hoped last night mate, the wind dropped and it was clear had a few runs and started my bros pup off, bit of work to do there spent a lot of time calling her back, but it'll come. We managed 1 but a lot of this permission empty not a rab in sight, think mixy may have hit hard here. Still better out than in
  7. Your right lads good permission is hard to come by, I walked some permission last night and there was hardly a rabbit on it just makes you go off permission. I'll get hard at the ferreting on this new bit and he'll see in the day my dogs can be trusted, and that will hopefully allow some night time work.
  8. I got a 3/4 whip 1/4 beddy, for ferreting and lamping rabbits and she's doing fine, but if I'm honest I wish she was a bit bigger so I agree in principal with wilf. I'll be getting another lurcher once I'm happy she is performing as well as I can get her to, it's all coming together now so maybe next summer I'll get another pup in to work with her and my terrier in the day and lamp with. I would say by the sounds of your post and what you want to do you wouldn't want to go too small, also definately 1 at a time get something that covers all bases and you may only want 1.
  9. Went to see an old farmer friend yesterday who has a load of land to ask about permission, he nearly bit my hand off when I said about the ferrets but went a lot more coy when I mentioned running the lurcher on the lamp. I've done work for him in the past and known him a long time so he knows I'm trustworthy etc, I think after a while he'll let me on at night and until then I've got a load of ferreting to do as he reckons he's over run, I hope he's right. It got me thinking how hard it is now to get permission as said I know this bloke well enough so what chance do you have cold calling?
  10. I'm out tonight just starting to blow now and no moon, gonna give my bros dog her first proper run just coming up 12 mnths so i'll take her out with mine and hopefuly get her onto a few easy ones. Gonna be a good week weather wise make the most of it I reckon.
  11. sorry to hear about your ferret mate, the lad I go out with has a couple of this years hobs left and maybe 1 jill if it helps we're in Devon mate.
  12. Good video mate, happy days indeed.
  13. Was taken out at around 6 ferreting, lamping, fishing, nesting etc and thats basically all I did for the next 15 years ( with a few sports thrown in ), the thought of being inside never came into my head I loved being out and busy. The man who first took me ( and basically had me every weekend and a lot of weekdays as a kid) died in March, as I've said before I really miss that we'll never go out ferreting or lamping or sit by the canal or on the beach fishing together, he gave me an up bringing which I'm really grateful for. I really believe that having a positive outlet and interest as a kid
  14. she had more pricks than a second hand dart board
  15. What a twat.... maybe he's into Nirvana
  16. you can lead a horse to water but a pencil must be lead up the rectum don't affect em as much use as a handbrake on a canoe as welcome as a fart in a space suit like a donkeys dick lets hit the road if your brains were made of dynamite you wouldn't have enough to blow your hat off
  17. It's those that piss me off whin, who would want to do be up town getting abuse on a sat night and not even paid for it. Got nicked by one years ago sticking up for a lad who was getting bullied this right nob had started on some girls too, waited outside for him and politely asked if he fancied bullying me next thing I'm getting nicked by this right jobsworth twat the 2 girls and this young lad were explaining what went on made no odds. At the station the duty sgt basically told him to piss off, he said I had to do the night so the paper work tied up but he'd have me out first thing. The
  18. Can't believe you got serious replies mate.........you gotta love it.
  19. walk quietly but carry a big stick ( my old mans best bit of advice)
  20. Never nudge your granny when she's shaving with a fork.
  21. Top advice as always Casso, really good outlook on dog behaviour, I'll be using some of your tips and advice to help my 14 mnth old pup lose a bit of her nervousness, she's coming good in the field, I've took it slow with her and it's starting to pay off. Redpat I wish you the best with your pup I can offer no better advice than Casso or Skycat have given you, but with my recent experiance with a shy/nervy pup I would say take it slowly, if you can take her ferreting that may help I started mine around the ferrets at around 5 mnths. I was lucky enough to have a mates experianced dog to show h

  25. Hi mate A mate I go ferreting with has a patt which has been worked hard and by all accountants was a good earth dog ( diggings not my thing but was his) he's around 10 now but still comes out ferreting and he's a good marker and steady all day, he's a switched on dog. I've got a jack russel which I got for bushing, ratting, ferreting ect and she does all of these things well and for work above ground she works well with my lurcher. Good luck with your choice mate.
