  1. Thanks Champ, I'm from Fife on the east coast of Scotland, shooting heaven!! Cheers, Mark.
  2. Bucks will bark when they are chasing each other off a territory and not just when they are spooked. It's more common to hear older bucks bark from my experience. Mark.
  3. This is untrue. If you read section 13.10 of the home office guidelines it states that you do not need permission to shoot on any land to aquire an FAC. If you book a days shooting with a sporting agent this is all you require. This is a last resort and you'd be much better trying to get your own land, but if all else fails book a day somewhere. mark.
  4. Well done mate. Most spring shot heads will dry out by up to 10%, so if he stays above 600g you should get a gold from him as everything else looks good about the head. Cheers, Mark.
  5. There are a few things mentioned in the article that I don't agree with but I mainly posted it up to show that there are bows and crossbows well capable of killing large animals. What I don't agree with is people telling other people that they shouldn't do something simply because of their own sporting beliefs. It's just as bad as an anti telling us not to shoot the fluffy bunnies because they don't agree with killing things. I'm not saying it's right or wrong but it's not fair to shoot people down in flames just because you don't agree with it. Mark. ps, I've never fire
  6. No, it is illegal in the UK to use a crossbow or bow to kill deer. Although I'm sure there are certain specialist bows on the market that are more than capable to do the job. They are very popular in the US and Africa on animals much larger than our native deer. Just because we don't do something in this country doesn't mean it's wrong, each to their own and all that! She's got balls!!!!!!!!!!! Mark.
  7. I realease 5000 reared ducks and the best way i find to get they flying nearly as well as wild ducks is do not exceed feeding them more than 25kg of food to 500 ducks, and when they start flying in off the banks is to start feeding them off the ponds by calling them everytime you feed them either with the horn of the truck or using a whistle, afer a few weeks of training you could take them a mile away then get them flying back, just let them go on there own dont push them back otherwise you spook them. and remember little and often, if they dont come out to where you want them dont feed, just
  8. Hi Guys, The ESAWC now has an Ebay site where there are some interesting goodies on sale to generate some money for the club funds. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/esawc Who would have thought a little badge would be worth so much! Sitting at £78 just now!!! Cheers, Mark.
  9. Well done Remmy. That looks a good medal!! Mark.
  10. You can shoot pigeons every time using 5's, 6's or 7's, each will kill cleanly at good ranges. If you want to maximise your chances you need to look beyond shotsize and look at load, choke and range. It's hardly nessesary to use 32g 5's through a tight choke to shoot 25 yards over blown wheat!!! But roost shooting through branches on a February night????? It's more about changing your cartridge and choke to suit your needs. Mark.
  11. A lot of the stalkers and Gamekeepers I know here in Scotland like the 22 centerfires for Roe. A local keeper to me shoots hundreds of roe a year with his .222 I use a .22-250 and love it for the job! I can never understand why England has not followed suit. We shot my heaviest ever buck last week with a 22-250, it's larder weight was 53lb. The only time I've had to track deer is with continental clients shooting heavy calibers that have failed to expand properly. Mark.
  12. The blindness that occurs from Rape is only produced when they eat the 00 variety of Rape, which isn't grown in the UK and is limited in continental Europe. Unless things have changed in the last year or two. Perhaps an RTA? This is certainly the most common cause of injuries to Deer. Mark.
  13. Well done, Nice view from that seat. As the cover comes up at this time of the year the high seats come into their own. Mark.
  14. Well done, that freak head is a real cracker! This is what I love so much about Roe. Cheers, Mark.
  15. Dicehorn, I guess thats the marvelous thing about Roe, they are all different and depending on their feeding they can differ hugely over different areas of the country. I remember seeing a yearlying head at Alan Allison's house a few years back. It was shot on a veg farm along the vale of Stirling where it had good feeding and minerals. It made a silver medal, amazing! I have a Doe on some ground of mine near Cupar in Fife that had triplet bucks last year. I left her in peace when doing my culling this winter but saw them a few times, she is still there with the 3 young bucks, all
  16. Yes the buck is from an area that produces good heads but a buck with 8" single spikes is not really a buck I want to keep. Not when there are plenty of other bucks in this area producing good 6 point heads in their first year. Cheers, Mark.
  17. Nice buck to cull. I have a buck with 8" single spikes and no tines still in velvet, he will have to go pretty soon! Mark.
  18. Well done FD. Beats going to work!
  19. Nice bucks V-max. Hope you get your medals. The top buck has nice shape to him. I do a lot of work with the does on my patch and have a few older does that won't be shot till their time is up. Cheers, Mark.
  20. Lee, If they are managed correctly medal heads can appear on most ground in Fife. I know a couple of the estates and Stephen Wade, along with many recreational stalkers, take a good number of big medal heads in Fife every year. Mark.
  21. Thanks guys. Remmy, I only stalk a very limited period and I'm full for this year AND next year too. The only space I have is for a prize on this auction site, http://sportingauction.yuku.com/ Someone might get a bargain! Cheers, Mark.
  22. Hi guys, I've been busy out stalking for the last 3 days for Roe bucks here in Fife. I was guiding a regular shooting client of mine on his first Roe trophy stalking holiday and it's certainly one he's going to remember!!! We did 6 stalks over the 3 days and ended up with 8 bucks with a few "special" ones included. Gold on the first morning! We shot some nice clean 6 point bucks before we ended up with this nice head last night. It was a good head and may just make a bronze but I would have liked to leave it for another year. We didn't have this choice as his body
  23. Here's a nice Fife gold medal shot this morning by a very happy Simon! Mark.
