  1. I watched a mature buck chasing a single mature Doe for about 20 minutes, up and down a winter wheat field. They were all over the place, made me dizzy watching them. Doesn't mean the rut was on though, it was the third week in May!!! Mark.
  2. Lots of grassy margins and shallow feeding bays are good. It doesn't matter if the middle of the pond is deep. Having a good flow of water through can stop it freezing up as well. These ponds are great for Teal and Mallard. Cheers, Mark.
  3. Here is how I see the 3 questions, Maybe not DSC1 but I believe all profesional stalkers should be on some form of register for which they have to prove themselves worthy. At the moment there are guides working in Scotland who take out overseas clients and don't even hold an FAC let alone shoot deer regularly, that cannot be right in anyones eyes!!! I don't see anything wrong with the way things are just now, keep it optional, and don't alienate those who can't afford it or only stalk once or twice a year for the freezer. This is the easiest one to answe
  4. Ive had 4 geese with 1 shot once. 3 geese with 1 shot twice. 2 geese with 1 shot about 30 times (did it 9 times in 1 season). The most memorable was when I shot 2 geese with 1 shot with my pants down having just dispatched a turd! Mark.
  5. Measuring is £15 Measuring + medal is £30 Medal on it's own is £20 Cheers, Mark.
  6. Hopefully this will be the last season we need one in Scotland too! Mark.
  7. We feed from mid August. Mark.
  8. They may have given you an open ticket??
  9. They are harder to spot out feeding at this time of year more than any other time. Having said that I don't believe they go anywhere, they are just in cover and aren't out for long. We shot a buck in the middle of a 40 acre field this morning at 04:15 just after it had been tipping down with rain for 15 minutes. He had finished feeding and was starting to move back in to cover, another 5 minutes and we would have missed him. In the next field over we saw another buck with 2 young does, they went in early too. After 04:30 there was nothing to be seen anywhere. Mark.
  10. A young rook has a hairy beak like a carrion crow but on closer inspection it is no way near as strong. You will be able to bend it easily and they usually have a yellow lining on the inside when they are straight off the nest. A Carrion Crow is a much bigger bird and blacker feathers than a young rook. An adult rook has the purple incandescent to it's feathers a carrion crow doesn't. Mark.
  11. Start them off on chick crumb, then pellets. Don't feed them barley till their out on the pond (4 weeks+) as they tend to start pulling feathers from each other once their on it. There is a critical time when you have to put them out before they start going backwards in feather developement. Mark.
  12. Yep, Kev will do you a good deal. Mark.
  13. They'll get a slap on the wrist and their pocket money stopped!!!
  14. Well done. He looks a real old boy!!
  15. Well done guys. Every buck is hard earned when the cover is up like this. Mark.

  18. Lots of young bucks around my area this year. Mark.
  19. There is no 50ft rule in Scotland, you can shoot from the side of a public road. There are several other charges that can be brought about if you scare or endanger other members of the public. Mark.
  20. Nice buck! He should be easy enough to reconise later in the year, nice symetrical, straight head with quite a wide span at the base of his main beams. Chers, Mark.
  21. Well done guys. I love those mid-summer sunrises. Mark.
  22. Thanks guys, The middle and right hand buck both weigh just over 500g. The yearling is on the left and was a pitty it had to go! Cheers, Mark.
  23. I've just finished a 3 day stalk where we were targeting some rather large bucks. We spotted 3 different certain golds but didn't manage to get a shot on any of those stalks. We did however get into some other nice bucks and shot a few in the process, leaving many others to run. Thursday mornings buck. Friday mornings old freak buck. A cracker on Friday night! This morning we stalked a buck that has been causing a lot of damage in a tiny plantation near a farmyard, this turned out to be a yearling buck!!!!! Another old buck this morning. My favourite quote fro
  24. Remmy, I'm sure it will make a gold mate. I had a buck a few years ago that dried out to 610g and ended up with a score of 139. The most important factor is the volume as you will make more points off that than from the weight. Mark.
