  1. Hi all hope you all had a good season. For those of you who lamp with your birds what kit do you use. I have no experience with lamping hawks but would like to try it later at the end of the year. So what extra kit do I need and what lamp, lamps do you use - light weight and best for the job? Also any one in the northamptonshire area lamping and would not mind someone comming along to watch? Thanks in advance ATB Lee c

  6. I Had the same when training Vladimir he like to try to chase pigeons he went out of the wood to the left and out of site. I walked up and down the hedge row with a chick and nothing. Got the telemetry out and thought it was not working properly! I thought it was picking up the signal from the wrong end as it was beeping very faint to the right of the wood. Put it on far and still beeping to the right. Followed it and about four fields down in a tree sat. Vlad, I may not have found him without it I was looking about half a mile away in the wrong area. I have used it a few times as I fly him
  7. I like to put my finger in the end ring and give these a good few twists around then fold it down in half the net then springs tight fold again then wrap the cord around and your done. To un do unwrap the cord hold the top ring, the net spins round and un does it's self. Hay presto job done. ATB Lee
  8. Hi rehoming are normally for a reason, these birds can be messed and have problems, A lot of these birds are from people that have not gained experience and now wish they had so just pass the bird with their problems on. I would join a club, volunteer at a centre and get out for a few seasons with experienced falconers. Ask one to be your mentor then decide if its for you. No telemetry is fine until you loose your prized possession then it's the cost of a new bird the telemetry you wish you had purchased and the days nights of searching for you bird you lose. I would get telemetry!! All the

    Decent folk

Popped out with a couple of guys today that I have not been out with this season and what a good enjoyable day. it is so nice to go out with genuine decent people. These guys are not all gun ho and look at what my bird can do, they are interested in how my bird is doing and will offer tips, advice and experience. I look to them as my mentors and I have been in the game for 14 years now worked at centres and flown all sorts of birds big and small.but the simple guidance from these guys makes so much sense. I got my Harris from these guys and half the club I fly at have birds from them and I thi

    Red kites

See them all the time they fly over the back garden to see what's going on and look at the bird. I have one the follows me about when I'm out hawking and it puts the bird off so I have to hide in the bushes for a bit to get it to bugger off! Also see pairs of them sat in the fields worming, it is quite strange to see such large birds working the soil. All the best Lee

  13. Couple of hours out with the bird it was a bit windy but 2 cracking flights. But no catch O well.

  14. Sorry to hear you have made this decision. I have had a few bad times when I have thought that's it. But it has been a part of life and I don't know what I would do with out it. I had to make the decision bike or bird so the gsxr1000 had to go, gutted. I hope you still have something to get you out into the fresh air because you will miss it. I think what I am trying to say is don't be to hasty. All the best in what ever you decide. Lee
  15. Try try and try again. Its the only way some nuts you will never crack and some just take time. Revisit them and mention that they seamed very positive last time you spoke and you are just chasing things up again. Type farm in search engine and on maps search of area. Phone phone and phone again! All the best Lee

  18. Not sure it's pheasant season! But nice one. Did you see my thread about the wind pipe from the pheasant getting over my hawks tounge and cutting off the blood supply? Check the birds tounge now and again is my new rule! I get him to peck at the tooth brush I use for his feet to see his tounge. All the best Lee c
