    Vlad wing damage

Injury was due to going mad at kittens on roof, took him straight to the vets next day and sat outside from 4am I think!! The vet cut the damaged area off as it was hanging of and wished me luck. He is a realist and said that I would be luck if he could fly when healed up. Thing is he moulted real well and I guess I was to optimistic, I will see how he does this season! He is slowly coming down in weight and will be out this week or next. It will be then when I see if the rest of the wing will hold up. Fingers crossed. ATB Lee
  4. Hi all cault Vladimir up early so I could get him going and see how his wing was! On first inspection it was hard to tell the wing he had injured. Now he has been bowed since last week end and had a couple of baits it is clear to see the damage, he has lost 2 primaries already and the area is looking very fluffy and not as it should be. I am devastated that my little fella may not be able to fly. I have lost a lot of sleep over this and I am gutted. I still have the belief it will be ok but it is hard to admit that it won't I hope you all have a good season and as much luck as possible. ATB

    Leg mount 173

Hi all I have the chance of a friend letting me have a female lanner. I have a marshals reciever but would need a leg mounted / cable tie transmitter on 173. It does not have to be state of the art just in working condition. I have a new baby on the way so funds are tight as you can appreciate, those of you that are passionate will also understand why I want my little one to grow up with and around birds. So if any one has one laying around unused going very cheap of free dare I ask I would much appreciate it. Thanks for your time and all the very best with the comming season. Lee
  7. Hi all I have seen people selling tubes to protect these for a tenner or so. I have simply use a cut length of electrical trunking to size, my transmitter fits in nice and tight and just simply slide the trunking cover back to reveal the transmitter and the other way to cover it. Works for me and hope this helps. All the best for this season Lee

  9. Hi I am no expert but I would say give it a go, why not! Just one word of caution if it is an angry type of red like some can be! You will need to be carful if he/she is grumpy and gets a bit nasty/tempremantal after missing a kill. Fine in the day when you can see them coming to have a pop at you but in the dark !! Ouch !! Best let someone know where a bouts you are heading out just in case yo do need assistance, it's no good phoning them and saying help I'm in a big Feild somewhere in the dark. Hope it goes well let us know how you get no? ATB Lee

  14. Hi jsb yep they will work with both just make sure their use to seeing both colours and there should be no problem. When we were out we saw an albino squirrel and none of the birds reacted to, we put this down to them thinking it was just a tree climbing albino ferret!!! ATB Lee

Hi you can use a hair dryer to help dry the bird off if the weather is cold but it must be Teflon free as Teflon will kill the bird. Put a heater in the aviary and or bring the bird inside if it is going to be very cold. Never put the bird away wet as it can get frost bite!! Training is best way from the house / garden as you don't want the bird screaming at you for food or it will scream and scream !! Man the bird to everything cows sheep horse dog etc. You may find it is fine with your dog but hates all other dogs Lee William Harris does a book on the Harris hawk. But get a good few book
  16. See if they can get the guy who sold it to you put to sleep. Well done. ATB Lee
  17. Hi good luck with this. If desperate and it needs food they do eat earthworms in the wild ! It may keep it going until you can get it somewhere. All the best Lee

    help needed

Hi JBS It’s too soon for you to get a bird if you don’t know what you are doing!! I would get out with some guys this coming season and learn about what is required in the field and with training, feeding It is so easy to make a mistake with this and will result in an unwanted bird, an accident or a screamer! If you have a centre near you then try to volunteer to help. If you have a club then try to join or get out with them If you can get a mentor this is the best way to learn. With the above you will lean about housing feeding vets training etc all you need Please take your time to l

    Feather loss

Hi had a post earlier in the year about it. He is free lofted and great with it, next door got new kittens and they kept jumping on his avary next thing my steady as a rock sitting happy bird has smashed the end of his wig off, vet cut off the hanging flesh and blood and feathers wished me luck!! I was not holding much hope that the would stay put but my fingers were crossed. I will try to lamp him this season if he can still fly. Fingers crossed again. Just have to see what happens during and after mould. He is sat watching me at the moment twisting his head as they do!! ATB Lee
